Title: Giant heat wave hitting USA before summer peak

This is the front end of Summer in USA and temperatures of 120 F = 48 C are predicted. Probably record breaking heat?

e most severe heat wave so far this year is bearing down in Southern California, with temperatures likely to top 120 degrees.

So how hot will it get?

Temperatures in downtown Los Angeles are expected to climb from the mid-80s Saturday to the mid-90s by Sunday, while triple-digit temperatures are on tap for the valleys.

But it’s Monday, the first day of summer, that is expected to be the hottest. The looming heat has prompted the National Weather Service to issue excessive-heat watches for L.A., the valleys and mountains Monday.

“It will be very hot,” said Joe Sirard, a meteorologist with the service. “People should limit their time outside during the day.”

Here are some predicted high temperatures Monday from the National Weather Service:

Palm Springs: 121

Los Angeles: 100

San Bernardino: 110

Santa Ana: 98

Palmdale: 106

Ah, you'd be surprised.

The hottest recorded temperature in Palm Springs was 123 in 1995, and it's hit 122 at least 8 times since 1957.

Hey, it's the California desert.

(CNN) — The American Southwest isn’t the only place feeling the heat.

This past May was the warmest May month in a 137-year period, breaking global temperature records , according to a report published Thursday by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

The new data shows that May was the thirtieth consecutive month to have soaring global temperatures across land and sea surfaces. This is the longest and hottest streak since temperature record-keeping began in 1880, according to NOAA.

Right now, 2016 is on pace to be the hottest year on record.

At what point do these ostriches start examining the scientific FACTS - instead of the opinions of those in the pocket of the Koch Brothers financed 'Heartland Institute', tabloid bloggers and radio shock jocks ?

Geez buzz, 137 years is SUCH a long time.
I wonder how hot it was in the 11th, 12th centuries.
Maybe the Apaches left some records.

And a small sample of just over 100 years is enough to base a theory on a planet millions of years old?

Nice try

You first. Lead from the front, not the rear.

Actually, it is not officially Summer in USA and the heat waves are prevalent. There was a heat wave a few weeks before this one.

The highest recorded June temperature, for Palm Springs, is 121ºF. And June wasn't even summer back then, either. ;)

That's true. Summer in the U.S.A. won't officially begin until ... tomorrow.

Your perspicacity has earned you a gift bag of one of Lisa's compressed stupendous farts. Be careful when you open, there might be solids and slush in there.

With only three days to go until the shortest day of the year, I figure that we might see barely any cold weather this year. But with the news that it is getting hot in places like California, it could mean a cold blast of weather coming our way. Even if we only get until the middle of July, it could bring about some variation from the mild cool we have been having.
