Which is why I'm not flogging this one,  Mothra.  I've had ex partners who were sexually assaulted so I'm not going to target an individual for not disclosing the attacker even for politically motivated reasons.

Bil0l I've long since stopped being shocked at the crap you come out with, you are clearly someone with a huge chip on your shoulder. But I'm guessing you have never been a victim of rape and the emotional trauma that entails. You also should be honest with yourself and read the whole story - particularly the fact that 12 hours after her original statement she went back and told the real story, and that she fully acknowledges the mistake she made and the potential risk she put other women under. Personally, I would put her rather bizarre initial reaction down to the emotional trauma of the rape - again, something which I'm pretty sure you have no inkling of what it is like. And while I'm no expert in the field, I'm pretty sure that a sort of "Stockholm syndrone" effect is not uncommon with rape victims, as a coping mechanism for the trauma suffered by someone who is understandably not in the right state of mind. A reasonable assumption that is supported by the fact that she "came to her senses" in the hours after the event, and acknowledged her mistake.

She reported it, she lied about who committed the crime, refused to have samples taken because they would show she lied and chose to blame it on her own countrymen, whilst knowing they were out there and almost certainly likely to target other women. It was all her choice.

Do I think it was the right thing to do ethically, hell no and I am saying so. Why not just not report?

But Stockholm Syndrome is the term applied when captives begin to sympathize with their captors, and it tends to happen over a period of days.

I don't claim expertise in the field of psychology either -- and feel free to provide credible evidence that disproves my take on this -- but I don't find much of anything online that links Stockholm Syndrome to gang rape, especially when it's a relatively brief, one-time act involving strangers.

I think it's more likely that the woman was a leftist who was simply adhering to the tenets of political correctness by viewing refugees as victims, even after she herself was sexually abused. In her world, racism is worse than rape.

Note that an Express report identifies her as "a passionate activist for refugee rights," who has "worked tirelessly to help refugees integrate into German society and has also visited a refugee centre in Iraq."

She reportedly was "enraged" that the police first asked if her attackers were refugees, and even after she came clean to the police (at her boyfriend's urging, according to the Express), she posted this on Facebook: "I am really sorry that your sexist and line-crossing treatment of me could help fuel aggressive racism."

In other words, her political viewpoint after the assault isn't all that different from her political viewpoint before the assault. So my impression is that her "rather bizarre initial reaction" (a description I agree with) has less to do with psychology than ideology.

We can speculate on why she went to the police at all, perhaps she wanted to let out some emotion, report her violation but what she did was also lie to protect her rapists blame it on her own countrymen and refuse to give DNA samples or they would have been taken. She was convinced to change her story after she told the truth to a friend, it was not her first choice, it was someone telling her what she should have done in the first place.

Not everyone "shocks" easily. For example, I giggle when they send counsellors into counsel bank staff after an armed robbery. I've had firearms pointed at me, I've had a shotgun in my mouth. I have seen people in shock after a mild car accident, I have had a couple of beauties, no shock. Everyone is different. Would you like me to go ask the wife for a second opinion from a rape victims perspective that is not yours?

Good morning Mothra and Nicole, not all people that suffer traumatic events suffer shock. And then even sufferers of minor events can go into shock, being rear ended in a car for eg. It's roots are psychological but the manifestation are physical. Everyone has a different level of "shock" tolerance.

To say every rape victim is also in shock is to say every rear ended driver is in shock. It's just not so.

Hell, I'll even go out on a limb and say I think it depends how precious a person is. One person I was involved with after a rear ender, not a participant, a woman, got out of the car and thought she was lucky to be alive, she was almost killed, she went into shock.

I agree. But I'm still struggling with the outright lying, and tying it solely to shock. But as confessed, I know little about shock.

I take your point setana. Some individuals are more resilient than others.   

But let's take Mithras point as given, for a moment - let's accept the victim went into shock.

Could that cause her to make rash decisions she may not otherwise have made? That is the question, I think.
