Mr Palmer has always denied acting as a shadow director at the company after quitting as a director on his election to federal parliament.

But Mr Wolfe has outlined the scale of Mr Palmer's involvement in the company's interests after he hung up his director's cap.

The former finance chief said he reported directly to Mr Palmer and the former MP's nephew, Queensland Nickel director Clive Mensink.

He told of face-to-face meetings when he would hand Mr Palmer and Mr Mensink hard copies of weekly and monthly financial reports.

Queensland Nickel has been charged with two counts of wilfully breaching its environmental authority when a wastewater dam overflowed in April 2014 during heavy rain.

The tailings dam allegedly contained high levels of cobalt and ammonia.

The Environment Department alleges the company ignored repeated requests to increase the capacity of the dam to cope with wet season rain.

The company, which is currently in liquidation, is not contesting the trial and a plea of not guilty was entered on its behalf.

After six days of testimony from several witnesses in the Townsville District Court, a Queensland Nickel representative came forward with new evidence causing Judge John Baulch to dismiss the jury yesterday afternoon.

The matter has been adjourned until next month.

does anyone remember how he was a staunch environmentalist ... at one stage of promoting himself...

but this is how he saved money....
