Title: Blast in Manhattan Post by bogarde73 on Sep 18th, 2016 at 2:42pm
NY Times:
A powerful explosion rocked the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan on Saturday night, injuring 29 people, shattering windows and forcing the closure of several blocks, the authorities said. None of the injuries were believed to be life-threatening, the Fire Department said on Twitter. The explosion was reported around 8:30 p.m. at 133 West 23rd Street, near the Avenue of the Americas, the department said, adding that there was a report that it emanated from a Dumpster. The authorities were unsure of the cause of the explosion and were exploring various possibilities. Mayor Bill de Blasio said at an 11:15 p.m. news conference that the explosion appeared to have been “an intentional act” but that there was no evidence that terrorism had been involved, although the investigation was continuing. The blast shattered windows in a five-story brownstone building and sent debris into the street, a law enforcement official said. The building is between a church on its eastern side and an apartment building under renovation on its western side. Of the 29 people hurt, one suffered serious injuries, said Police Commissioner James P. O’Neill. As a precaution, the police and fire personnel were searching trash cans for possible explosive devices, officials said. Mr. de Blasio said the police were investigating a device that had been found a few blocks from the explosion, on West 27th Street between Avenue of the Americas and Seventh Avenue. A Police Department spokesman, J. Peter Donald, said on Twitter that officials were asking residents on West 27th Street between Avenue of the Americas and Seventh Avenue to stay away from windows facing the street “until we clear the suspicious package.” |

How do they rule out an act of terror when they say it's a device?

Title: Re: Blast in Manhattan Post by Fireball on Sep 18th, 2016 at 2:52pm
From what this article says, 'devices' did explode and they were activated 'intentionally'.

Title: Re: Blast in Manhattan Post by Sir Bobby on Sep 18th, 2016 at 3:42pm A device at a second location in Chelsea appears to be a pressure cooker with dark colored wiring coming out of the top center of the device. The device, mentioned earlier by police, is connected by silver duct tape to a small dark colored device attached to the outside of the pressure cooker, according to multiple local and federal law enforcement officials. None of the officials would say at this point what was inside the pressure cooker. |

what I read earlier said it was some explosives used in demolition on a construction site that accidentally got set of after being thrown in the dumpster ... surely no terrorist would place a bomb in a commercial bin?

If Muslims want an enemy to take them on with genocidal zeal - that would be the Marines - present and past (there is a saying in the US - once a Marine, always a Marine - and it is true). So yes, should Islamic fundamentalists kill some Marines on US soil - they, in their many many thousands, will get the chance to meet allah and the female goat herd the profit Moh promised them...Enjoy it oh Muslims....God loves his Marines, they send him souls to judge - to keep, or to send to hell. Another terrorist attack - 8 stabbed:
http://edition.cnn.com/2016/09/18/us/minnesota-mall-stabbing/index.html Minnesota mall attack: Man shot dead after stabbing 8 people (CNN)A man wearing a private security company uniform stabbed eight people at a Minnesota mall before an off-duty police officer shot him dead, authorities said. Seven of the wounded were treated and released, while one victim remains hospitalized. None of their injuries are life-threatening, St. Cloud Police chief William B. Anderson said. Witnesses said the man entered Crossroads Mall on Saturday night, made a reference to Allah and asked at least one person if they were Muslims before he attacked, police said in a statement. The stabbings occurred in multiple locations inside the mall, including in the common area and several stores. The mall has security teams on site but they are not armed. Shortly after, an officer confronted the attacker. "The individual we believe to be responsible for the victim's stab wounds is currently deceased inside the mall," police said early Sunday. |

Counter-terrorism officials were on Sunday searching for a bomber at large after 29 people were injured by a roadside blast in New York and a suspected unexploded second bomb was found nearby by police.
Clinton and Trump reactions to New York bombing prompt fierce debate Investigators were examining a device inside a pressure cooker, apparently wired to a mobile phone, which was discovered inside a plastic bag a few blocks from where a powerful explosion fired shrapnel at pedestrians on Saturday night. “Whoever placed these bombs, we will find and they will be brought to justice,” New York governor Andrew Cuomo told reporters at the scene. “We will not allow these kinds of people and these kinds of threats to disrupt our life in New York.” No one has claimed responsibility for the attack, according to authorities. “We do not know the motivation,” New York mayor Bill de Blasio said at a press conference at NYPD headquarters. All those hospitalised by the blast were said to have been released by late on Sunday morning. Significant damage to surrounding buildings was reported, with windows being smashed as passersby screamed and ran for cover. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/sep/18/new-york-bombing-no-international-terrorism-link-governor-cuomo |

New York Post:
A 911 caller warned of further explosions right after the blast that rocked Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood and injured 29 people, The Post has learned. “I’m looking at the explosion down the block. There will be more,” the unidentified male said, claiming to be standing at 23rd Street and Seventh Avenue in the aftermath of the terrifying incident, according to law-enforcement sources Sunday. Investigators believe the blast was the result of a home-made, pressure-cooker bomb similar to an unexploded device found later on 27th Street, sources said. In another new wrinkle, a hand-written letter, a portion of which is in Arabic, was found inside a plastic bag that held the second device, sources said. Cops were interviewing two men who claim to have spotted a potential person of interest in the case, sources said. The witnesses were dining at the Krush bar and grill on 32nd Street about a half-hour before the 8:30 p.m. Saturday explosion when they saw an Arab-looking man who was carrying a suitcase and appeared out of place, sources said. |

NY Post:
FBI agents arrested five men who may be connected to Saturday’s bombing in Chelsea after stopping their car in Brooklyn, sources said. The men were heading over the Verrazano Bridge from Staten Island when they were stopped Sunday night. Sources said the FBI suspected the men may have had a role in the bombing and were questioning them at the FBI headquarters in Manhattan. It is believed the men, who live in New Jersey, were heading to the airport when they were busted. Meanwhile, New Jersey Transit says service on the Northeast Corridor line has been suspended between Newark and Elizabeth because of police activity near Elizabeth. A source said that at least one explosive device was found at the train station in Elizabeth. |

New York (CNN)What was his motive? Was he working alone? Why did he make lengthy trips to Afghanistan and Pakistan? These are some of the questions that have emerged in the wake of the capture of the man suspected of planting bombs in New York and New Jersey over the weekend. What we know about bombing suspect Ahmad Rahami What we know about bombing suspect Ahmad Rahami 01:58 Ahmad Khan Rahami, 28, is "directly linked" to bombings Saturday in New York City and Seaside Park, New Jersey, and is believed to be connected to pipe bombs found Sunday night in Elizabeth, New Jersey, sources said. Rahami was charged with five counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose on Monday, according to the Union County, New Jersey. Rahami was captured after the owner of a bar in Linden, New Jersey, found him sleeping in the doorway of his bar Monday morning. Harinder Bains, owner of Merdie's Tavern, recognized Rahami after watching CNN on his laptop and called police. When officers responded, Rahami pulled out a handgun and opened fire, striking an officer in the chest. A foot chase ensued, during which Rahami shot at a police car, causing a bullet to graze another office in the face. The chase ended when Rahami was shot multiple times. He was taken to a hospital for surgery. Rahami was not initially cooperative with police who tried to interview him, a law enforcement official said. His bail has been set at $5.2 million. |
