Title: Trump wins says Prof
Post by bogarde73 on Oct 29th, 2016 at 10:30am
Prof Alan J Lichtman has correctly predicted every presidential election since 1984 and he says Trump will win by the narrowest of margins.

Isn't this what I said a while back, that it would go down to the wire? But it could be a different result after today.
Who knows? The American people might finally wake up to the evil that is the "Grifters in Chief".
Or they might decide Donald Trump has rigged things with the FBI.

Who would be mad enough to bet on such a close thing as this is likely to be?
But I know who is making a terrific run down the outside.

Nah, my family needs that money. 1k I can do. Wife stops work in a month :)

BTW, I also think Hills is a nose in front.

I'd actually like if Hills was charged by the FBI, Trump gets charged for groping women and they decide to let Obama stay for one more year and start the process again with decent candidates.

How good would that be!!!

Like wanting to bet on whether you'll get syphilis or gonorrhoea; both are extremely poor candidates and the USA should be ashamed of itself for their very existence.

There are also some less obvious reasons why a Trump win would be good. If he wins, the ensuing political  disaster it would cause, I think (hope) would force the Republicans will rebuild itself as more moderate party.

If Hillary wins, the republicans in opposition will take vehemence to new levels, she'll only be in for one term and the next Republican leader may be someone not so easily lampooned, but politically much much worse.

The polls are showing voting intention but they are not showing and cannot show turnout.

The big unknown is just how motivated to vote are all the people who didn't turn up to vote in 2008 and 2012.

If Hillary wins the Republican Party will collapse unless they maintain their majority in Congress and the Senate. If the Republicans keep their majority they will impeach Clinton - they will not be able to resist the popular pressure  of their base

There is simply no going back to Hill and Bill and the 90s in the long run.

Interesting to compare both candidates official, primary speech viewings on Youtube.

Hillary - 2,165    views
Trump - 775,653   views

That is about 360 times more interest in what Trump has to say than Hillary. Polls are BS.

Looks like a win landslide for Trump.

The US does not have compolsury voting, very hard to predict as the election results will come down to who cared enough to vote. The fact that both candidates are morally reprehensible  may very well lead to Trump winning.

No.

Trump has never won a thing in his life.

Think about it.

This will be no different.

Hillary will win ... comfortably.

And no, I'm not a Clinton fan.

Predicting results was probably furthest from the minds of those Founding Fathers who crafted the process, giving American Citizens the Freedom to decide whether they would vote or not, over 230 years ago.

It's been serving Americans pretty well, & I doubt they would want to trade away their Right to Vote, or Not Vote in order to enable them to better predict political outcomes as the trade off.

America enjoys it's Freedom to make decisions (like voting) for themselves, & the Liberty that comes with it, which is part & parcel.

They would take being told that they had to adhere to compulsory voting laws as an outrage, an oppressive process forced upon them by an oppressive government.

They would not comply, they would flatly refuse to comply, & they would refuse to pay any fines associated with their refusal to the point of armed resistance.

You say you're not a Clinton fan but you'd be a fan of Globalization and Fabian Humanism, wouldn't ya?

It's no wonder therefore that you keep denigrating Trump. I'd say you want nation destroying "Obama" type politics to continue, and you don't care who continues it. But Clinton will do, won't she?

This is true Bias. I just read one notable pundit say he wouldn't care if Hillary had the body of a murdered girl in her basement, he'd still vote for her.

Western countries, including our own, are now divided into two camps. One that wants to keep going further & further down the road of globalism over national sovereignty, big govt over smaller, welfarism over self-dependence, unlimited migrations over national interest, and sleaze over decency.

I say I'm not a clinton fan because I'm not a Clinton fan.

What part of that don't you understand?

And, I continue to denigrate Trump because he isn't a worthy candidate for POTUS.

He has no experience and absolutely no idea.

Moreover, he has admitted to sexually assaulting women and he has been accused of raping at least one child.

The man does not possess a single admirable quality.

He is a complete failure as a human being.

America needs someone other than Hillary, but they don't need that bloated orange pig. Nobody does.

Worthy candidate =

- hasn't been accused of raping a child

- hasn't admitted to sexually assaulting women

- hasn't been bankrupt four times

- does have experience in public office

- does have an understanding of the constitution and the American political system

- isn't a compulsive liar

- isn't a bully

- isn't a racist bigot

- isn't a bloated orange douche bag

Trump fails to meet even the most basic requirements.

I don't want Gordy's account.

I'm just playing his silly game.

The deal is this:

- Trump wins, and I leave this forum forever

- Hillary wins, and Gordy leaves the forum forever

If he wants to donate to charity as well, that's fine.

However, my original deal stands.

I suspect Gordy will renege, though.

I agreed to nothing of the sort because I believe Hills will win :)

This part I believe has been agreed to by all parties.
If Trump wins, Greggy leaves forever (that bet was made with a 3rd party) As a side deal, I'll donate $1k to CC for the keys to his account.

There seems to be some confusion over this part.
If Hillary wins, I'm still open to donating $1k for Greggys account, up to him.

Why Is Bill Cosby Finished While Bill Clinton Is Beloved?

Nobody needed criminal convictions to drop Cosby - just multiple accusations of sexual assault and some out-of-court payouts. But multiple accusations of sexual assault, out-of-court payouts and the loss of his law license are apparently not enough to bar Bill Clinton from another eight years in the White House.

None of the polls have Trump in front. A few have him close(ish) and a number have him well behind. That doesnt leave a lot of hope for Trump.

Yeah, I know. Polls in australia are easier and more accurate because of compulsory voting and also the absence of large racial group differences. To be honest, the american election system is a mess because each state runs it on its own with different rules, different methods and so on. But for all its faults, it does seem to work. The idea that the election could be rigged to the level of altering the outcome of a national election is ludicrous, but Trump is a conspiracy theorists as are many of his supporters.

I seem to recall reading some thing today about they've found two cases of voter fraud already in the US, but they were Trump supporters. Seriously though you're right. It's scary. Amen!  after all, the biggest and most serious problem in the USA is DIVISION. Social division and Trump is perhaps the worst possible person to do so. Someone of Obama's skills and abilities could not do it and obviously Hillary wont do it either.  Trump would pour petrol on the fire.

I cannot understand how ANYONE at all can vote for trump or support him. He is the most manifestly unqualified presidential candidate I can ever recall. He has neither the temperament not the experience for the job. And he is just such a buffoon.

Curing the american social malaise requires both parties to actually work towards that goal. The republicans have been blockers for decades now. Ironically, Trump may help the problem after all by causing a landslide defeat of republicans all round leading perhaps to a painful re-evaluation of Republican (and Democrat) politics.

You're not serious, right?

He has been bankrupt FOUR times. That's not a record to be proud of. He has also been taken to court 4000 times!  and a few over sexual harassment and now, one for child rape.

These bankruptcies didn't in any way mean the companies went belly up, not at all.

On all occasions Trump availed himself of the well crafted Law, he was able to stave off creditors by reducing the payments he needed to make on an expanded payment schedule........basically less $$ per month, over a longer stretch of time (court renegotiated the loans), thus saving the businesses while protecting the jobs of those that worked in those companies, & also keep those creditors from attaching the assets of his other vibrantly successful companies, which were still able to make substantial untouchable incomes.

Anyone that is aware of the processes involved in those bankruptcy cases, of which you obviously aren't one, would know that tens of thousands of business owners all across America do exactly the same to protect their companies every year, preliminarily because of the reasons I mentioned earlier. Trump should be commended, as well as any of the other business owners, should also be commended, for taking advantage of the American Bankruptcy Laws that were written specifically for their benefit, & the overall benefit of their companies future financial health. ;)

In America Bankruptcy isn't as catastrophic as it is here. Individual average Americans also claim personal bankruptcy according to generous American Bankruptcy Laws, not to avoid paying off debt, but to have the court force debt renegotiation upon lending institutions that might not be willing to do otherwise, giving the individual the ability to pay down their debts at a rate that will hopefully keep their heads above water, rather than having to take up residency on the Poor Farm at the hands of the banks. ;)

Panther, every time one's debt is wiped off, someone else loses money - in this case, the owners of junk bonds in Trump's casinos.

And we're talking billions - most from small investors who were sold a lemon. The banks got some back. Mom and pop went belly up.

Alan Bond and Christopher Skase did it in Australia, and Donald Trump did it in the good old US of A. The business of Amerika is business.

@Karnal  Trump's debt wasn't "wiped off" in any of his bankruptcies.

The court just changed....forced his creditors to accept revised repayment particulars (the monthly payments were lowered, & the time to pay it all back was lengthened, while the interest rate was also lowered) so Trump could pay back all his debt while keeping his business above water, & protect employee jobs, the best he could, in the process.

Trump financed in many ways, usually with banks & other lending institutions.

Junk bonds, if you would dig into who manipulates those, are usually issued by others who in turn use their plunder to invest in safer undertakings.

junk bond noun  plural noun: junk bonds
a high-yielding high-risk security, typically issued by a company seeking to raise capital quickly in order to finance a takeover.

In all my reading I can't find anything that shows he issued any junk bonds as a regular practice, maybe you can provide us a link if you know he did.

In America, again if you'd investigate & read, the stock exchange is pretty much the same as our TAB, it's legalized gambling......sometimes you win, & sometimes you lose. On junk bonds, which you can invest in in hopes of big payouts/returns, most people usually lose, & when they do it's usually substantial, but those that win usually win a King's ransom.

Those that invest (bet) on the wrong stocks, usually get better/higher returns when they win, but the fact is they also are accepting higher risks.....your Mom & Pops in your 'theoretical scenario' were just investors that wanted an unusually higher return, & some of their risks didn't pan out as they hoped it seems......it's all in the roll of the dice. Time to invest wisely, & when it comes to unusually high yielding junk bonds, only invest what you are willing to lose, because you probably will.

Mom & Pops, & their little children too, are not the typical investors who invest in junk bonds.

No, Panther, the very definition of a bankruptcy is when you can't repay your debts.

This is all on the record. Trump lost the casinos, but kept his shirt. He even sells this as one of his great negotiations, the "art of the deal".

Problem is, on the other side, Trump lost the shirts of thousands of small investors who invested in the "Trump brand". Some lost everything. Trump prevailed. He kept his other businesses and his inheritance.

Perhaps he'll use the same formula to make Amerika great again, eh?

Smart fellow.

Just the sort of mover-and-shaker the White House needs in the Oval Office. A risk-taking Alpha-male who covers his ass with other people's money.

His misdeeds are mere peccadilloes compared to what's brewing for Hillary.

I seem to recall reading some thing today about they've found two cases of voter fraud already in the US, but they were Trump supporters. Seriously though you're right. It's scary. The weird thing is the system may be broken, but just because it is broken, doesnt make Trump the solution to it. People seem to be falling into that trap.

Amen!  after all, the biggest and most serious problem in the USA is DIVISION.

There are any number of checks-and-balances before action is sanctioned by various committees and bureaucracies.

As will Hillary.

The US is effectively a one-party state - the repugs and the dems are merely two factions of the one party. In fact there is a bigger ideological divide within the republican party than there is between repugs and dems. You only need to look at the way establishment repugs are clambering over to the dems after Trump became their candidate. They prefer Hillary because she is Mrs establishment - establishment meaning the ruling elite that rule America - by and for big business. Yet even if Trump wins it won't be a big deal. He'll end up playing the establishment role just like every other President. In any case, they've never been able to do much anyway - outside starting wars. And that will probably be the key difference between a Clinton and Trump Presidency - we'll likely see more wars under Hillary.

Far Left Social-Marxist Marla from Colorada voted for Trump.

That's got to be a harbinger of Things to Come on the 8th.

She was so desperate to keep Hillary out of the Oval Office that she voted two weeks early.

The lesser of two evils is Trump.

Trump only obeys the Voices in his Pants - but Hillary obeys the Voices in her Head, which as President would be a lot more dangerous than Trump molesting the White House interns.

But of course. Just look at how the first black president, originally the "hope" candidate, has been restrained by the system.

US intervention in foreign countries, using drones - escalated.
Guantanamo Bay - maintained.
US foreign surveillance and spying on friendly heads of state - exposed.
Universal health care - compromised.
The appointment of Supreme Court judges - prevented.

And when every policy or appointment is blocked in congress, it's the president's fault for being weak.

If the Republicans get a majority in either house, watch them go for Hillary. They will reject all her policies simply because of who's proposing them. They'll play hard-ball with Supply, ultimately screwing government workers, just as they did in Obama's first term. They'll oppose everything they can because, in their words, the election of Hillary will be illegitimate.

Republican tactics have become more extreme and less in the interest of American citizens as they've welded themselves onto their lobbyists and corporate donors. In doing so, the business of government has been seriously compromised. Food safety standards, universal health care, environmental protection, a living minimum wage - all have been neutralized in the interests of the lobbyists.

Politicians slide between the corporate and public sectors. Running for office is now a big business career move. Do what you're told in the senate or congress and be rewarded with a multi-million dollar CEO or corporate-consultancy job.

Public service - working for the people who voted for you - is no longer an end in itself. Through the untendered contracts, the appointment of corporate lobbyists as the heads of public boards, and private industry representatives writing actual laws, US governance has been effectively outsourced.

The system is rigged, not because of any actual corruption or illegality, but because corporate Amerika pays its politicians to get elected and pays them off with lucrative jobs when they decide to retire. In the last administration, Cheney, Rumsfeld and even Bush himself, went seamlessly from the corporate sector into government and back to the corporate sector again.

Trump knows the process well - he used to pay Hillary. He's given millions to politicians, a tactic he learned from his father. As Trump pointed out in a debate during the primaries, he'd given to every politician on the stage.

The business of Amerika is business. Unravelling this process will be next to impossible, but putting Trump in to do it is like putting the wolf in charge of the sheep. Obama was too much of an outsider to make any progress, and Hillary is too much of an insider to want to. But Trump, who still runs a business, and pays no taxes, and has a bigger conflict of interest than anyone who's stood for office to date, is already part of the system.

Voting for Trump to shake things up and make Amerika great again is the most ludicrous proposal ever made in a US election.

The strangest thing of all, of course, is that people actually buy it.

Again, it's back to the lesser of two evils. In political terms Hillary is far less a clean-skin than Trump with her having years more experience of milking the system for hers and Bill's own personal benefit.

Just the fact that Trump isn't a rusted-on Old Boy career politician should be enough for America to give him a chance for at least a paltry four years.

Unlike Obama, Hillary is not a committed ideologue: There is no policy end she desires, there is only an urge to power, with policy and platforms as a discreet veiling of that urge. Her tin-eared phrase for the rest of you losers - "everyday Americans" - underlines the distance between the rulers and the ruled. Her replacement slogan - "Stronger Together" - translates to "Get with the program", but the program is mere set-dressing. Trump is demonized as a Caesar - the strong man as embodiment of the state - but in fact his rise was driven by highly specific policies: build the wall, end mass Muslim immigration, make health insurance purchasable across state lines. Trump is inviting you to vote for something; Clinton to vote for someone: With Hillary, power and authority are all, and public policy is simply collateral damage. A Clintonian restoration, born of politically-derailed criminal investigation, industrial-scale charities fraud and a foreign policy for sale to dictators, would see a massive acceleration of the already appalling and debilitating levels of political corruption in America - because there is nothing else.

Nigel Farage has never held high office: he will never be Prime Minister, Foreign Secretary, Chancellor of the Exchequer or anything else. But he has accomplished more than anybody who has held those offices in the last quarter-century. Twenty years ago, he set out to reverse the principal thrust of post-war British policy (foreign and domestic) - and he did. Whether you agree with it or not, that's an accomplishment; that's a reason to go into politics.

The Clintons? Hillary got rich, Bill got laid, republican virtue got screwed. Like the sickly leaders of late-Soviet politburos, both appear older and feebler than their years: once the star performer of the double-act, Bill staggers around like the Blowjob of Dorian Gray; the life has all but literally been sucked out of him. His straight-woman, once the reliably stolid, stone-faced Margaret Dumont of his cigar-waggling routine, now has to be propped up on street bollards and fed lines by her medical staff. When she shuts down and she's out cold, who's driving the pantsuit? Huma? Cheryl? Podesta? Bill and Hillary have been consumed by their urges. America would be electing the Walking Dead, insatiable and fatal to the touch, but utterly hollow.

It show higher bottoms.

Meaning, Trump will win.

Excellent post.

Hits every nail on the head.

Completely irrelevant, though (much like you).

Nobody here supports Clinton.

You guys are basically arguing with yourselves.

The bottom line is, Hillary will win the election.

That doesn't, however, mean anyone here likes her.

It's just what's gonna happen.

Get used to it, dust-farter, because Trump is headed for the scrap heap.
