Trump to approve plans to build Mexican wall

US President Donald Trump is set to order the construction of a wall on the Mexican border to stop illegal immigrants from entering the United States.

White House officials said the president plans to sign an executive order later today that will fund the construction of the wall, the New York Times reports.

Trump insists the wall is needed to curb the flow of immigrants crossing the county's southern border.




The US president will sign the order during a scheduled visit to the Department of Homeland Security.

During his race for the White House, Trump garnered strong criticism and support for his unrelenting declaration that he would build a wall around the Unites States’ southern border and that Mexico would pay for it.

      
Mexico's ex-president Vicente Fox Quesada has be a long standing critic of Donald Trump's wall proposal.

Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto reiterated during a speech on January 11 that his government would not pay for a border wall.

"It is evident that we have some differences with the new government of the United States, like the topic of the wall, that Mexico of course will not pay," Nieto said.

Mexico's ex-president Vicente Fox Quesada has also been a vocal adversary of Trump's wall proposal, posting several blunt Tweets to show his disdain

So essentially thats one election promise broken.

If it actually gets built, it is likely to by a "white elephant." Mexicans have been tunneling under various border obstructions for years. A significant margin along the entire length will have to be manned to have any effect.

A 3200 km wall  ;D does anybody have any idea how much that will cost , or how long it will take to build ?

Fences, cameras, walls, probably bases built along the border where security people can embark quicker. Better patrolling. Strengthen the laws. There's plenty of things that can be done as well as better defences.

Symbolic as in a barrier and not jus bricks and mortar. It will be a functioning barrier (a wall). Like a firewall in computer terms. Not a wall but wall as a descriptive use.

The funniest part is that it will cost at least $20B and that cost assumes.... mexican labour. If this were to be anything other than a huge example of hypocrisy, it would need to be entirely american labour and goods.  Now the cost is $40B!
