Turnbull warns party faithful against drift to the right
Malcolm Turnbull has stared down the right-wing of his own party which has hamstrung his leadership and asserted that the Liberals should be the party of the "sensible centre". After passing a compromised version of his big business tax cuts late on Friday, the Prime Minister reset his own position, invoking the philosophy of founder Robert Menzies and telling the party's state council meeting in Melbourne that the Liberals should reject "populism". "Menzies rejected the populism, the authoritarianism of both left and right. He knew that the future ... was in the sensible centre; was in the politics, not reactionary, but liberal, proudly liberal," Mr Turnbull said. "Above all, you build from the centre, bringing people together, and that is our commitment." His call came a week after a Fairfax-Ipsos poll showed the Coalition continues to trail Labor federally in opinion polls, by 55 per cent to 45 per cent. Mr Turnbull said that "right at the heart" of the Liberal Party's project "lies enterprise, business men and [business] women above all, small businesses, because they're the most enterprising, the most ready to invest, the most ready to innovate". http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/turnbull-warns-party-faithful-against-drift-to-the-right-20170401-gvbhjf.html |

Continuing to fill the country up with low skilled migrants while our own people can't get jobs or houses won't help the political scene remain centre.

.. and yet 'passes' tax cuts to corporations and such that offshore their profits and pay next to no tax while generating next to buggar all job security for Australians overall. Let's wait and see what the Senate has to say.. and the people.
I want to see JOBS - decent jobs, for people coming out of this - but I suppose that's 'populist'..... Words are cheap..... we demand action... I return once again to the US style of company tax - the less you earn the less you pay on a graduated scale - and there is a mandatory minimum if your company/group etc earns over a certain amount.... and there is a tax relief for the first year of operation.... On top of that companies/groups/corporations meet their tax obligations here and then may claim those as deduction in their tax haven. If your management etc is done offshore - you are deemed to have spent that money here and thus it is a component of your tax - you do not get to 'double dip' any more by claiming it here and then there. How bizarre is is that Ripout Mining can claim a repayment of a loan to Outrip Mining as a deduction here, and then claim it again in Far Koffmetax, the tax haven to end all tax havens.... All 'projects' "invested" in here must be based here, and must have a local investment percentage exceeding 51%, and must employ locals first and foremost, and thus contribute to the tax pile. No more offshoring and double dipping. >:( |

Menzies! A useless PM. All that energy wasted on trying to ban the communist party. That is not at all right wing and authoritarian ::)

Strange thing to say! We've been living with major party populism for over a hundred years. I can't see it ending in the near future. If Turnbull wants to reject "populism", he'd have to reject himself Populism is a political doctrine that proposes that the common people are exploited by a privileged elite, and which seeks to resolve this. The underlying ideology of populists can be left, right, or center. Its goal is uniting the uncorrupt and the unsophisticated "little man" against the corrupt dominant elites (usually established politicians) and their camp of followers (usually the rich and influential) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Populism |

It's the harmful effects of Globalization that's pushing the Liberal party to the centre. But it's not the "sensible" centre, it's a black hole that will consume them and spit them out. Globalization and United Nations doctrines have left Australia up a creek without a paddle, and the major parties are constantly grappling with ways to appease the public, usually with handouts and "popular" altruistic policies Australia can't afford |

Now with Bernardi gone and Christensen quite for the last month or so, Turnbull thinks he can stand up to them.
I bet Christensen comes out and calls Turnbull to heel. side note. Bernardi did Turnbull a huge favour in leaving the libs. |

The only way to achieve this is for parties like One Nation to receive enough votes to bring it about. The Major parties have for decades allowed multinational "Cost-Toll" companies to operate in Australia. Cost-Toll operations make their profits overseas, not in Australia, and therefore not obliged to pay tax on those profits here. Their head offices are not in Australia Any foreign multinational operating in Australia that exports it's products can be considered a Cost-Toll operation, profits not made here, taxes not paid here. This was made legal by the major parties, the Libs and Labs Try getting them to change it .... best of luck |

As usual the Lefties cannot see the forest for the trees and ONLY think in terms of SPENDING which is the destructive mantra of the Socialist Welfare State as seen during the destructive intensity of the six sick years of Socialist waste and disgrace.
The Socialist indoctrination of the Lefties burns into their strained brains that their self entitlement means that the world owes them a living no matter what and it is someone else's responsibility to work out who pays for all their unsustainable unproductive Socialist Welfare. In Australia the vital element needed to GROW the economy is EXPORTS which earn money for Australia and INCREASE the amount of money in the Australian economy. Just look at how successful exporting has been for China which is now rolling in money. Now another concept that the Lefties will never understand in a month of Sundays is it is successful companies that create the exports to sell overseas. So how do you attract successful companies to operate and stay here in Australia and employ Australians at the wages they are capable of and actually are worth to the company ? Another concept that the Lefties will never be able to grasp is that companies are now free to set up in lots of places around the world and they will go where the govt is most friendly to them. To an intelligent informed person (definitely NOT a Lefty) the Cent would have dropped and they would now understand why Malcolm is trying to create a company friendly environment here in Australia. No doubt some inspired Lefty like LW will rush in filled with indignation and do a copy and dribble scribble and display the usual Lefty gross ignorance of economic matters. |

Yes, but then you offer a fallacious reason as to why they struggle to find a job. Its not low skilled migrants keeping them out of work. As I said, thats something Ray Hadley would suggest as a football commentator. |
