Sanctuary implies impunity right?

The other night, in the Bay area of San Francisco, 40-60 youths staged a coordinated attack on a train.
They robbed all the passengers of their valuables. They beat them up, some badly.

Sure they will pull out all the CCTV and go through the motions and maybe they will find half a dozen.
If there are any illegal immigrants among them though you can bet they will try to shield them from ICE.

And in yet another epic fail by the Trump administration, a Federal Judge has over-turned the racist AG and racist Trump's executive order taking money from Sanctuary Cities.

So just another loss for Trump.

We are talking about restrictions on U.S. citizens living in San Francisco, who are without any drug or other criminal convictions.




And Sydney is no better.

NSW is awash with illicit firearms, being used by violent criminals.     !!!



But it is not lawful, for any Australian citizen [an Australian citizen with NO drug or other criminal convictions], to own a firearm for protection of himself or his family.



QUESTION;
Can we really trust a self-serving political elite, in a country of supposedly 'free [and many] law abiding citizens', to be the best arbiters of who should be permitted to have possession of a firearm ?

e.g.
Australian governments have allowed people who use the drug 'ice', to go around in public, armed with Glock pistols.      !!!!!
