Title: Trump & Trade
Post by bogarde73 on Apr 27th, 2017 at 10:32am
It's not easy being great.

Bloomberg:
The Trump administration plans to begin an investigation into whether a flood of aluminum imports is hindering national security, a White House official said.

The investigation mirrors a probe the Commerce Department opened last week under section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act targeting steel imports. A CNBC report on plans for the investigation sent aluminum stocks surging, with Century Aluminum Co. up 9.6 percent and Constellium NV up 2.1 percent at 2:16 pm New York time.

Aluminum prices have gained about 16 percent this year, the best performance of the main metals traded in London.

Last month, the U.S. Aluminum Association filed petitions alleging China dumped and subsidized certain aluminum foil imports and the government began an anti-dumping and countervailing duty investigation.
If the Commerce Department finds evidence of a national security threat from aluminum imports, the president is authorized to unilaterally “adjust imports.” Only two presidents -- Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford -- have ever granted relief under Section 232, citing national security concerns stemming from the global oil crisis of the 1970s.

Until the Trump administration opened the steel investigation last week, the U.S. had launched only two such investigations since the 1970s, and in each the Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security declined to recommend action. Should Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross recommend action after the steel investigation, targeted countries would likely file a dispute with the World Trade Organization.
The presidential memorandum initiating the steel probe also cited aluminum manufacturing as a core industry that is critical to the manufacturing and defense base, along with vehicles, aircraft, shipbuilding and semiconductors.

Do you remember Trump promising massive tariffs on imports?  Well, he has dumped that idea.

So far that makes about a 95% reneging rate on promises and a 100% failure rate on the rest.

How do you support this clown?

No reasonable person supports this clown.

That's what needs to be remembered.

AS John Cleese has said, there are just far too many stupid people in the USA.

Indeed.

“The problem with people like this is that they are so stupid that they have no idea how stupid they are.

"You see, if you’re very, very stupid, how can you possibly realize that you’re very, very stupid, you’d have to be relatively intelligent to realize how stupid you are.”
