Title: How do they get away with it
Post by bogarde73 on Jul 7th, 2017 at 7:18am
I'm a compulsive news surfer on my mobile early in the morning and what I notice is becoming more common is the non-turnover of stories.
The SMH is the worst. I realise the range of stories for the mobile edition tends to be truncated with some sources but the SMH is just ridiculous.

I swear a couple of stories have been sitting there for a week or more. Do they just forget? Don't they have enough.copy to update? Are these stories they want to push?
How do their advertisers let them get away with it?

Ho ho! You've mentioned one of my greatest criticisms of Australia's sluggish and bone-lazy media habits .. ie. letting stories sit for days and weeks with only a little trickle of new stuff sourced from overseas like the thieves they are.

Bone-bloody-lazy is what the Australian media is, and it's because of the contempt with which they hold the Footy-fkked mindset of the average Australian punter.

It's for precisely this reason that my #1 news source is the UK's Daily Mail where they post up new stories 48 hours ahead of our ABC national broadcaster.

Then again, Bogey, you could tap into this news service that's broadcast from ... er ... Colorado.

link   8-)

One site, I think it's news.com.au, doesn't update over the weekend.

Well, maybe one or two stories, but that's it.

I tend to use Google news now, or even Flipboard.

The 'News' app on iPhones isn't too bad either.

You'd be using InfoWars most of the time, wouldn't you?

Do they update regularly?

I hate it as well.  I suspected  its a strategy to make you pay up but once i subscribe it wasn't  any better  :o

Also  am I  the only one who notices the national  news on t.v is a complete  rehash  of the local news on just before  it?

And why is there "always " a animal  story  just before  the weather? And what counts  as news worthy  in Australia  wouldn't  make a shop a docket in more developed  society's.

In Europe  they have a special  news show for children. ..say 12 and under. It deals with news and current  affairs in a more mature way than our so called  adult news!

No wonder  media  in this country  is going broke. Its just badly  run business  :'(

To be honest, I very rarely watch TV news these days.

- Footballer behaving badly.

- Car drives into house.

- Celebrity has baby.

- Shark swims in ocean.

- It's cold in winter.

Give me a break.

The SMH is rapidly becoming a joke in regards to quality control. ABC's media watch has been monitoring this pretty closely - the alarming drop in editorial standards, which directly coincides with the slashing of editorial staff. Business wise they are completely shooting themselves in the foot - with the slashing of not just editorial staff, but investigative journalism as well. I predict that pretty soon they will be replaced as the mainstream non-Murdoch paper by the Guardian.

I think you've put your finger on it gandalf with the staff cuts. Maybe they want to leave the cupboard bare for a t/o.
If they want to carry on, a business doesn't survive by constant cutting. Govt can but not business.

And no Greg, I don't read infowars. Maybe I've looked at it once but I'm not even sure about that.

What rot. The government needs to privatise this nonsense.
