Title: Circumventing a ban
Post by Aussie on Jul 8th, 2017 at 11:51pm
Agnes was under a ban.  She said so in public.  During the ban period, she posted using a sock of hers......and this was detected by a GMod about 8.00 pm last night.

But, Agnes logged in a couple of hours ago tonight.

That means her original ban was extended by a very, very short period, if at all.

I understood the ramifications were much worse.  I thought:

Say 'Aussie' was naughty and had been given a seven day ban.  If during those seven days, 'he' logged in as "Mod," then from that moment....the ban would have been 14 more days locked out.

Vic, can you explain that?

More mod bashing planned I see aussie.

Why don't you just setup your own forum. Go there and run it as you see fit.

Everyday there is a new drama that you have to dig up in a vendetta again someone or another.

It is just toxic.

What the mods do with any individual is between the mod and that person. It has nothing to do with you and you have no rights in this regard. Your desire to see those you don't like or have a current issue with suffer some form of sanction here is just childish.

Not at all Super Nova.  I am simply trying to understand how the Rules are applied.

That is what this Thread is about.  Just a simple request for clarification so everyone is well aware of outcomes.

Now, please cease drama queening everything I post into something it is not.

I do hope you can manage that.  I know you can, with some genuine good will and actually letting go of old self inflicted wounds you allow to fester.

Cheers.

That's easy, if she breached a forum wide ban she would have had her ban lengthened. It does not apply here. She got a short forum wide ban for ignoring the sub-forum ban.

Oh I see.

So a Mod's ban is not as 'important' as a GMod's ban.  It's a pecking order thing.

I get it.

>:(

Setanta, she did not ignore it.  She acted quite deliberately in acknowledgement and defiance of it, deliberately using a sock.

So, if I post at The Tavern in defiance of her ban of me there, all I get is a 24 hour forum wide ban?  Yes.

Stupor Nova started life as a snot-nosed, whiney, blitheringly dumb, brat.

He's now a geriatric. Nothing has changed, except his age.

Probably, it's what I have given others for breaching her ban. It will be extended with each further breach though.

Okay, then why hasn't her ban been extended.  She has priors for exactly the same thing.

I'm not going to dig up the past. It's per ban. You allow her back and it's year zero again. That would make sense don't you think seeing as we do not keep "criminal records" on members?

We don't have pow wows(courts) about members infractions, impossible, we are not all on at the same time. We are not a government organisation with a database of members transgressions. We work with what we have. You will find consistency within a mods decisions but probably not between them. There's nothing to be done for that and you should learn to accept it. Continually crying about it will get you nowhere and only serves to undermine what we have, as flawed as it is.

Ya see, there is the problem.  Nowhere in those Rules which Members sign up for is there anything about what you describe.

I'd agree with you 100% if those Rules vanished.  But, they exist and that is what Members agree to abide by.

I'm quite happy to see moderation at the absolute whim of sensible people (see the Rules for Member Run Boards) and accept the outcome will be Member exodus of the entire Forum if someone like I am (falsely) described became an Umpire unfettered by Rules.

I do see your point, but that is a two sided coin.

No-one reads them but pedants looking for an out. Draw your lines on your own behaviour.

We are in effect unfettered, perhaps that is why FD is careful in appointing them. I've given my views on who I should be replaced with. Sensible people who don't have an axe to grind on personality or "sides".

You keep thinking it is just about me.  It never is.  I am always an issues driven person.  I have nothing to 'get over,' and trying that subjective dismissive approach fails to address the problem.

We ought have a set of Rules the GMods enforce, or we have moderation based on the 'sensibility' of the GMods and no Rules.

Cops don't get to arrest based on what they reckon is 'sensible.'

I'd love to see that list.  Then again, I don't want to.

Why anyone would take it on to fly totally blind without proper guidelines and Leadership direction is way beyond me.

That is why I'd never ever ever take the job here and probably why there is such an appalling GMod attrition rate.

We lose the better ones, like you and Muso.

True, and the ultimate loser will be the owner of the private property as the tenants slowly move out.

I don't want that to happen.
