some would have to wonder what would have happened had he not been there?..

was it divine providence  or sheer luck

It wouldn't have worked out well for the Brits had he not been PM. That much is sure.

He had a cigar and walking stick like Charlie Chaplin . He messed up Gallipoli and then Norway and Dieppe raids.  His generals wouldn't fight , he said , and lost Singapore and Egypt until Montgomery turned up and who then lost Market Garden .

Russia beat the Nazi army and Yanks did Normandy .  But Winnie looked like a Pom so that's what he did.
