Title: The secret of long healthy life
Post by bogarde73 on Aug 3rd, 2017 at 3:00pm
The Uni of California, San Diego has produced a report that says moderate to heavy drinkers, 5-7 days a week have the best chance of living to 85 and avoiding dementia.
:RT

Just saying.

Must admit though I haven't met too many 85 year old drunks with no cognitive impairment.

Of course, being a US college, it could be a plot to dispose of those awful white men.

My Nan used to drink 1 sherry a night at 6 o'clock with a bowl of chips and watch family feud. Nothing wrong with her and she lived til 97. If she didn't fall over a chair at golf a few years back she would have never died I promise ya! The falls just keep coming after that!!

Her Second Husband was different,... still lived to 93 tho!!

One day he fell on an indoor garden aquarium and there was shattered bits of big round pieces of glass everywhere and he could have bled out in a second they were so big and he used to get sozzled and there was no way my nan could lift his frame,... all bloody tough guys back in the day !!!

What was the question? Oh, yeh- these people all came from the farm and had good clean living from an early age... my nan was taking one pill a day and her blood pressure was perfect and the doctors were simply amazed,... but(I won't tell you the buts  8-))

In short, I wouldn't expect too many 85 years olds with a significant drinking experience to remain smarter than the average bear. Not without the help of their other half.... with their other half they can of course remain tremendously fierce!!

I have to wonder about that as there have been no studies that show alcohol consumption is beneficial for health.

Past studies that showed there is 'some effect' where light drinkers (a few drinks a week) do better than non-drinkers has been debunked.

When they actually drilled down on the people who make the up the non-drinkers, they actually found a large % of people who'd previously been heavy drinkers, and people who abstained due to other serious health reasons.

When they removed those people and compared non-drinkers in good health to light drinkers in good health, the effect disappears.

Bogarde73 should consider whether he is impaired after reporting he has intelligent interactions with drunks.

Maybe you should consider not eating the blue urinal cakes out of the public toilets. It may help your complexion.

Nah mayte. I was only discussing the peer reviewed studies into the effects of booze on da body. Did I sermonise about the social or mental effects? Nah.

I like a glass of red with dinner every night for the health benefits of the anti-oxidants. And the rest of the bottle because I like it.

They are perpetuating the myth that moderate drinking is good for you.
The problem with these studies is that they compare abstainers with drinkers but they don't investigate why many of the abstainers don't drink alcohol.
In fact many of the abstainers are people with health conditions that mean they arn't allowed to drink alcohol or they are recovering alcoholics.
Once these biases are removed alcohol consumption has no heath benefits

Drink a glass of whiskey a day.

Never give up shagging beautiful women.

Enjoy the company of tiny children.

Enjoy life and all its wonders.

Grow a garden of veg.

Don't get sick and stay away from hospitals (dropped the ex off at hospital the other day and been sick as a dog since two days after)...
