Well it hasn't work because US didn't want it to work.
Ten years ago NK put on the table proposal to freeze it's nuclear program if US and South Korea stop their military exercises in front of NK borders which is basically current Russian and Chines diplomatic proposal for peaceful solution.
Unfortunately US still reject this proposal.

Trump's North Korea threat could have a '$10 trillion price tag' for US

Donald Trumps recent threats to unleash "fire and fury" on North Korea would take a $10 trillion hit to the United States economy, a North Korean expert estimated.

In recent days, Trump and the North Korean regime have engaged in heated rhetoric about the Asian nation's nuclear weapons program.

Trump warned on Tuesday the US would rain down “fire and fury” on Pyongyang if North Korea followed through with its threat to attack the US-held Pacific island of Guam.

The president's rhetoric came as tensions mounted between the US and the rogue state.

The escalating threats followed reports North Korea had mastered crucial technology needed to strike the US with a nuclear missile.

If the US was successful in wiping out the North Korean regime, experts predict the process of reunification between the two Koreas to follow would become exhausting and economically catastrophic.

But Dr Leonid Petrov, a North Korea expert and visiting fellow at the Australian National University’s College of Asia and the Pacific, warned this would cause a significant financial burden on the US.

“I think it will probably cost at least $10 trillion, but probably more,” he told News Corp.

Dr Petrov previously said reunification would cost an estimated $3 trillion immediately, with $7-8 trillion more to follow over the next 10 years.

“The younger generation of South Koreans is not very keen at all to see reunification because they know they will have to pay for this,” he said.

If this were to happen, Dr Petrov said marked social tension between South Koreans and North Koreans would follow, including abuse, crime and other social problems.

“Both countries have been isolated from each other, they speak different dialects, understand the world differently. South Korea doesn’t need its impoverished, aggressive, poorly educated brothers to inundate South Korea,” he said.

Dr Petrov argued the South Korean economy was reaching crisis point and urgently needed access cheap resource and labour, News Corp reported.

“South Korea might use the opportunity to exploit North Koreans who have less education or experience in enterprise.  Millions of North Korean workers could become second class citizens, there could be widespread discrimination - even the border might be kept for years to stop mass immigration."

“It will take at least a decade before the level of prosperity will be equalised between North and South.”

The best-case scenario is something akin to the reunification of Germany in 1990. South Korea would likely benefit economically in the long run, according to a report from Capital Economics.

Like Japan and many European countries, South Korea has a population that is fairly old with the median age 41.2.

North Korea, however, is a much younger country with the median age of 33. In a peaceful transition, this would breathe youth back into the workforce and improve the South’s demographic outlook.

Youth isn’t the North’s only natural resource — it’s home to the Korean peninsula’s greatest wealth of untouched raw materials. For South Korea, access would push down the need to import and provide it with cheaper building blocks for its strong manufacturing industry.

Besides the utilisation of North Korea’s potential, a unified Korea could benefit significantly from lower military expenses, which cost both countries dearly. That money would be freed up for other projects.

Amid Trump’s heated words days ago, South Koreans are buying more ready-to-eat meals that could be used in an emergency and the government is planning to expand nationwide civil defence drills planned for August 23.

Hundreds of thousands of troops and huge arsenals are arranged on both sides of the tense demilitarised zone between the two Koreas.

Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron spoke by phone on Saturday and agreed to work together on a crisis on the Korean Peninsula, the White House said in a statement.

"They discussed the need to confront the increasingly dangerous situation associated with North Korea's destabilising and escalatory behavior," the White House said in a statement."

Consider what happened to Yugoslavia, Iraq and Libya. Like the DPRK, all three were US ‘target states’. And all three were destroyed and their leaders killed. To be frank there was never any "appeasement".  A truce was signed all those years ago, but never a peace treatie.  It was signed because neither side was winning, and back in US, there were basically no support for the ongoing Korean War. 

Peace was maintained over the years, not due to appeasement, but due to self assured mutual destruction.  If war break out, it could cause untold amount of economic destruction on the US's already fragile and debt ridden economy.   And at the same time, US's many enemies would come out of wood work - in the middle east, central asia, Africa etc etc.  It would make the great depression a cake walk.

To be frank there was never any "appeasement".  A truce was signed all those years ago, but never a peace treatie.  It was signed because neither side was winning, and back in US, there were basically no support for the ongoing Korean War.  Peace was maintained over the years, not due to appeasement, but due to self assured mutual destruction.  If war break out, it could cause untold amount of economic destruction on the US's already fragile and debt ridden economy.   And at the same time, US's many enemies would come out of wood work - in the middle east, central asia, Africa etc etc.  It would make the great depression a cake walk.

Well China had better do something fast as time has run out.
It's time to get survival provisions in your cupboards:
cans of baked beans, spam & fish,
also - a large bag of rice.

I think what we should worry about is not how many bombs that North Korea have.  But how will it impact on Australia when US decided to do an Iraq war over that.   And it depends who triggers first.

North Korea first:

As soon as something happens, the South Korea capital would be come under heavy bombardment.  This would immediately cause massive causalities, before South Korea military can respond.   This would cause a ripple of economic devastation around the war starting in Asia.  Australia will be impacted - China, South Korea, Japan and USA - pretty much our trading partners - and the results will be immediate. 

USA first.

Lets face it, the USA is unlikely to use atomic bomb on North Korea.  As the resulting nuclear cloud will drift towards Japan, South Korea, and possibly China and Russia.  It would be messy, and the USA will find no friends.  So, has to be some surgical strike, or even MOAB.   These however, would require a simultaneous strike with a large air and naval force.  And North Korea is crazy but not stupid, it would be able to see it coming from miles away.  And will retaliate, by striking against South Korea, and Japan. 

Now, the cease fire call were signed by China, Russian, North Korea, South Korea and USA.  North Korea and South Korea are still at war.  So if USA breaks the cease fire, then it potentially mean that China and Russia will once again be involved as well.  Because, the agree is for cease fire on the 38th parallel. 

In the best case senario, South Korea and the USA will probably be able to defeat North Korea (without Russia and China butting in - thats a big if) - say in matter of a year.  There will be at least millions of Refugees fleeing towards China, and also millions more who cannot leave and choose to stay.  I can foresee civilian casualties into millions - from the actual war campaign, and the chaos that follows it (e.g. starvation, famine, and disease).   All these will happen at the same time that most markets in the world is tanking.  South Korea will not be able to feed or keep order in North Korea.  North Korea will divide, and probably turn into a second Afghanistan with rule of factional warlords.

At same time, sensing USA's and China occupation and weakness.  A few things may happen:
1. There will be resurgence of terrorism and extremitism in Central Asia, Middle East, and Africa.
2. There will be a low depression in USA, and along with it Australia. 
3. In term, USA will balance that out with China, by supporting Taiwan independence, Tibet Independence, the South China Sea dispute, and India/China border dispute. 
4. The USA will balance out Russia, by stirring up more trouble in the Middle east, Syria, and also Ukraine / Belerus issue. 

And all this, will have the potential to get worse, until every country in the world is affected.

from either a Tomahawk missile or laser guided bombs.
That would knock out the artillery pointed at SK.
They would then of course try to knock out every mobile missile launcher -
they must be following them by the minute with satellites.

NK could just fissile out before they have a chance to fire any nuclear weapons.
If they do then there are missile defense options.
The war could be over in a day
without a nuke being fired.

This is what we were made to think.  But the reality is very different.  In movies, yes, the artillery guns are lied up very nicely in one area.  So that Rombo and Arnold can charge in, and bomb them.   

In reality, the guns are placed in areas some are know, some are secret and sheltered well under ground.  The nuclear warheads are not fired on a stable platform, but fired on a mobile platform that have a series of secret underground tunnels to support it.   You may be able to knock out most of the obvious targets, however its the targets that you dont know that is going to hurt you.

Okay, lets look at this way.  With all of its might, the USA were having alot of trouble with rudimentary tunnels dating back Korea wars, Vietnam wars, to the more current Iraq and Afghanistan wars.  If they cant bomb out those low tech tunnels, do you think they can effectively wipe out a more prepared tunnel?

If he loses he could be given diplomatic immunity for all the murders & other crimes he's committed

not a bullet fired & the majority decides.

We would all be spared a nuclear war.

The United States will pay a "due price"

if harsh sanctions against North Korea are agreed at a United Nations Security Council meeting in New York Monday.
North Korea's Foreign Ministry said in a statement published on state media that if the US "does rig up the illegal and unlawful 'resolution'" it would respond in kind.
