.....  it IS possible ... with money comes power and with power comes access to the women.. always the way of it and always will be......  also long hours on the road and in front of the camera etc make it hard to have any semblance of a home life, and it is pretty much accepted in the tv and film industry that sex is part of the game - look at Hollywood*.  Same with sports stars and (gags) politicians etc... women literally throw themselves at them - must be some underlying hope of getting the hands on the loot ........ oldest game in town and always a source of amazement to me.

She also alleged he flicked her bra straps, pushed his foot into her backside and said she hadn’t been working out, and lifted up her shirt to see the colour of her underwear.

On a work trip to the Northern Territory, he allegedly tried to take off her top. “I was sitting next to Don on the bus and he decided that it was OK for him to put his hands on my T-shirt and try and pull my bra strap, my bra off and try to somehow remove my clothing,” she told ABC/Fairfax. “He was trying to take my top off.”
Wendy Dent, who met Burke when she was 21 and performing as a fairy at the Melbourne Garden Show in 1995, said the star knelt in front of her and asked for a wish. She alleged he then opened his eyes and said: “It didn’t work. You’ve still got your clothes on.”

He later offered her an audition, but allegedly said she would have to be topless. Ms Dent said it put her off the “sleazy slummy industry” for good.

Another researcher alleged Burke said, as they stood on the rooftop at his Sydney production company: “You know what I love about cocktail parties? It’s the name tags. I get to grab women’s tits while pretending I can’t read their name.”

Well he was definitely an arrogant pig.   He was my neighbour for quite a few years.  I mentioned it in another thread.    In person he was absolutely nothing like the affable, easy going persona he put forth on the tv.

"Hey look!"..."I'm a Celebrity and that makes me Holier than thou, just like the Priests did in the Old Worlds. I have every right to fondle this young actress's breasts because I am a Star and I make people lots of money. My Producers and Network will protect me - because they too get up to no good!"

The actor who played the original Son, caught Mr 'Dad' assaulting the young actress and complained to his Producers - they told him to shut up. So he left.

And thus ... the issue gets treated as gossip .. and the fact that there is a tsunami of people coming forward to disclose sexual abuse gets neatly stepped over.

I've been saying this for a long time .. and met with tremendous resistance on this forum for it .. but this is huge. I don't know any women that have not been sexually harassed or abused. Most of us many times. Daily, weekly, monthly ... for years.

I'm talking about treating people badly. Do you only hold people accountable when it's of a sexual nature by a man towards a woman?

A joint ABC/Fairfax investigation has uncovered claims from a number of coworkers from in the late 1980s and 1990s who say the well-known buggerwit was actually more of a monster in his approach to pulling roots and just general treatment of other people and plants.

You should have noticed by now that i tend to use gender non-specific terms. I do that to represent all variables. I'm an intersecionalist.

Now ... we have people being arseholes in positions of power. We have that power expressed professionally, by virtue of numbers, protection from repercussion, physical advantage, substances .. etc.

These are all of the things victims report their abusers as being. It seems that sexual abuse and harassment has this factor in common.

It just so happens that it tends to happen more to women than men.

Now i ask you to think about what factors may contribute to it happening more to women. And women being disinclined to come forward. Could it be the ways in which women are talked about and valued? Do you really, really think?

however I fear it is more he is the boss or at least in a high position than the subordinate and weaker person....

Isnt this all very old news?  Don Burke has long been known as a serial predator. The only difference this time around is that he is not being accused of mucking around with underage children. But I guess that will be coming up soon.

The 50-year-old has spoken to more than 400 victims, with allegations ranging from verbal harassment to criminal indecent assault, The Australian reported. 
Ms Spicer claims that one of the most common names brought up by alleged victims was former television personality Don Burke.
Burke has been accused of sexually harassing and indecently assaulting women who worked on his gardening program in the 1980s and 1990s.
Ms Spicer, a veteran journalist and mother-of-two, has been working with a team of police, victims and legal representatives for months to release the list
Burke's accusers included former researchers, producers, crew members, and TV hopefuls, a joint investigation by ABC and Fairfax uncovered.
'The name that kept popping up again and again and again was Don Burke … In the case of Channel Nine, this protection racket went to the very top,' Ms Spicer said.
Burke has emphatically denied the claims, which he says were made by former employees with grudges against him and were baseless.

Ms Spicer said among the victim's accounts were 'dozens of allegations of rape', as well as claims workplaces had ignored their reports.
Ms Spicer has not yet put any name forward in regards to specific allegations.
'It's not only the allegations that are horrific, it's the cover-up,' she told Nine Honey.
'In about 50 per cent of the instances that have been brought to me, the victims have reported it to the workplace, have gone through the whole process, have gone to HR, gone to their managers, diarised it, sent emails, they have evidence,' Ms Spicer said.
The veteran newsreader said she was compelled to bring the perpetrators to justice after visiting a police station while researching a separate story.
An officer had been talking about the accusations against movie mogul Harvey Weinstein and mentioned her surprise a similar outcry had not happened in Australia.
Ms Spicer said the officer told her there was no statute of limitations for most cases and that victims from '30 or 40 years ago' could report such abuse.

Earlier this year Ms Spicer also claimed 'sickening' sexual assault occurred while she was one of Australia's most recognised television journalists.
The 50-year-old told Woman's Weekly in April one of her bosses put his hand on her right buttock, asking her if she had 'lost a bit of weight'.
'I actually turned around to slap him, but realised it was one of my bosses. So I just lowered my arm. I said, 'Yeah, after my mother died, I didn't feel like eating'.'

Burke was a pig to everyone, male and female alike, but it is only females coming forward and the males never would.

I never heard about his 'sexism' and there was a lot of talk around about his abusive arrogance at the time.  That doesn't mean it didn't happen but with all the talk I am surprised nothing was mentioned.

I really do wonder why people wait so many years to make accusations though.  I think a great many women might even have been flattered by the attention they received back then and/or used it to their own career advantage at the time   ...    then, years later, jack up and decide it was 'out of line'

No. She was very old and happy for me to touch her tomatoes. Fixed up her Gardens n' such, then moved on.
Maybe do it again in a few months if she wants. The Gardens were over-grown. Not touched in a year. I did a good job of it, so maybe next winter I will get back to them? It was nice working, with the ocean just 15m away and people walking past on a council path in between.

yeah, thats normally the case.

because as you get to the top, youve usually had to go thru the fire and its burnt off the impurities.
so the guys at the top are usually pretty calm, pretty hard working, appreciative of where they got to, dont take success for granted and super efficient.

thats why Bourke and the very few celebrities like him are a bit of an anomaly . because, if he just wanted babes, then , hell.

I think it's a bit of both. He obviously has a very ribald sense of humour and if that was all to it, if he was actually a nice guy who just had a potty mouth without the rest of it, people would call him 'Dirty Don' and move on.

Because there are also allegations (at the moment) of low level sexual assaults, every dirty utterance gets included into the higher level stuff.

this IS an opportunity for Bourke to change.
he can take the lesson and grow or he can think he is the victim of a witch hunt and he cannot grow.
