Title: 700 jobs making hams for christmas - big fizz
Post by Sir lastnail on Dec 18th, 2017 at 4:24pm
This is how the libbos are fudging the jobs figures. Hire and fire jobs for christmas under the pretense of permanent secure employment.

How much has the state gov tipped into create the jobs of the future for the ex Holden and Toyota workers ?

BERTOCCHI will be bringing home the bacon for the state this Christmas, announcing an extra 700 jobs and four new sites across Victoria.

The smallgoods manufacturer will splash its piggy bank on a new factory in Melton, as well as upgrading its Thomastown site and Geelong distribution centre.

THOMASTOWN SMALLGOODS BIG WINNER

And the pig products will also trot through three new regional distribution centres — the locations of which will be announced in the new year.

The move is a vote of confidence in the Victorian manufacturing industry and has been supported by the State Government.

As part of the $46.7 million project, Bertocchi will invest in new preparation equipment and process improvements for its ham, salami and bacon products, to reflect the changing needs of supermarkets.

Minister for Industry and Employment Ben Carroll said the state was happy to hog every new job opportunity possible and wouldn’t take manufacturers for grunted.

“Bertocchi is a staple on the Christmas table for tens-of-thousands of Victorian families and it’s great we’re able to make this announcement in the lead up to the big day,” Mr Carroll said.

“Christmas has come early for us with this investment, it’s a huge vote of confidence in our state, with Bertocchi wanting to spend tens of millions of dollars expanding their business, not only in Melbourne but across Victoria.”

Mr Carroll bristled when asked to reveal exactly how much the government was kicking in to help Berticchi’s expansion, but said the tail of a local company doing well was something everyone could get behind.

“Victoria has been home to Bertocchi for more than 40 years and thanks to our support they’ll continue to be part of our food and fibre sector for years to come,” he said.

The state government has committed about $100m to manufacturing support in the state.

Established in 1972, Bertocchi is Australia’s third largest smallgoods manufacturer, its products are distributed nationally through Coles, Woolworths and IGA stores and other delicatessens, butcher and food shops.

The food and fibre export sector adds $11.9 billion to the State’s economy and employs more than 190,000 people.

Hi Nail,
just heard on the radio today -
there are still 750,000 people officially unemployed
(& you can guess there are just as many not on the official figures)

That's even worse than during the GFC in 2008.
So much for Turnbull's 1000 new jobs per day spin.

Turnbull is a liar.

When was the last time you bought a brand new Holden or Ford or Toyota vehicle manufactured here in Australia?

You can always see when a labor government gets into power by the unemployment figures and also the debt figures...

check out 2008!! - Rudd / Gillard

1983 Bob Hawk

Early 1990s - Hawk/Keating

but overall, it's not too bad... considering we have to bring in people from overseas to do work that our own Australians wont do because they get paid too much on welfare... take a look at the loafers on this forum for instance..

Mechanic - I don't think $245 per week on the dole is a lot of money.
I couldn't live on that except under a bridge.
