Let's talk about Bill - Bill Shorten, that is.

The Bennelong byelection may have come and gone, but aftershocks are lingering for a Labor Party that had expected to do better.


Bennelong win a 'renaissance' for PM
The Turnbull government has retained its one-seat majority after John Alexander won back the Sydney seat of Bennelong, despite a swing against him.

This was a very poor result for Labor and one that confronts its strategists with some fundamental questions – including those relating to its leader's dismal poll ratings – as the party prepares for a challenging few months in what may prove a clutch of loseable byelections.

This is on top of factional infighting in Shorten's own Victorian branch over preselections. These tensions are threatening to destabilise his leadership ahead of Labor's National Conference next year.

As a consequence of all this, are we observing a momentum shift in Australian politics, or simply a detour in a Labor procession to the Treasury benches?

The overarching question in Labor's post-Bennelong poll analysis will be: why was the party unable to push Liberal candidate John Alexander to a closer result beyond the two candidate preferred margin of 4.86 per cent.

However I thought the same of the WA labor bloke, but he won and seems to be doing ok, (apart from his idiot token woman Education Minister)

The Liberals must be really worried, judging by how much the desperate bleating from their paid troll has increased of late. What is it now, 25 Newspolls in a row? And maybe 100 polls total in that time with hardly any good results at all?

Shorten is on track to win the election. What has the Coalition really worried is the possibility that he could turn out to be a really good PM. Shorten doesn't have a lot of charisma but neither did Howard. Was Howard a poor PM because he lacked charisma?

No wonder the personal attacks have stepped up. But, as Margaret Thatcher once remarked, if they attack you personally, it's because they haven't a single political argument left.

Bill won't be next PM as that is reserved for whom ever stands atop the compost heap after Mal loses his 30th newspoll , after the federal election Bill will be PM .

Turnbull will take the Liberals to the next election only because they have no good replacements.

This will become apparent after their inevitable decimation at the next election. They will have about three leaders in their first term in Opposition. None of them will be any good.

He hasn't even started it yet.... no party ever reveals the (ta-daaaa) CORE promises of its policy platform this early in the argument.

All The Short One has done so far is make one or two statements about penalty rates and such... the full policy platform - which will mostly be non-core policies so as to avoid having to keep too many promises - will come out when an election is declared open....

After the next election I await without bating my breath the 'black holes of budget' that are yawning beneath the feet of the elected government... and threatening to consume us all unless they cut somebody's arm or leg off.... as long as it's not one of theirs.....

The personal attacks will put voters off and move them to the other side.  Keep going at it, coalition.  Digging own grave.

There's no doubt about it, after Bennelong the Lefties know their hero the union puppet Bull S. is gunna lose the election.

But the Lefties can relax as Mal has revved the Australian economy up so much that it will be able to afford their unproductive wasteful WELFARE.
