Title: The Hottest Planet Post by The_Barnacle on Nov 4th, 2018 at 11:07am
There has been a lot of
There have also been many forum members claiming that the sun is the driver of the climate, not the atmosphere. In truth both the sun and the atmosphere affect the climate but it is the atmosphere which has a far greater effect. To prove this you only have to look at a couple of planets in our solar system. Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun so you would assume that it is the hottest planet.............but it's not. Mercury day side temperature 427o C Mercury night side temperature -173o C (yes thats minus 173) Venus day side temperature 462o C Venus night side temperature 462o C Venus is twice as far away from the sun as Mercury so it receives just a 1/4 of the radiant heat, so why is Venus hotter than Mercury? The reason is: Venus has a dense atmosphere and Mercury has a negligible atmosphere |

No one is denying the atmosphere doesn’t play a role of course it does.
The miracle of the Earth’s atmosphere is it traps heat to keep us warm and it releases heat into space to maintain its equilibrium, that is a true miracle hey TD. Sure the trace gases like CO2 play a big role in maintaining the Earth’s temperature about 30°C higher than it might otherwise have been. But that’s about the extent of trace gases and their effects, in fact CO2 heating is logarithmic and the first 20ppm accounts for half of this warming. Both sides acknowledge this, even the IPCC although they do camouflage it nicely in their papers. Want proof look back through our history, today we have some of the lowest amounts of atmospheric CO2 and global mean temperatures in our history and we all know the climate fluctuates and has cycles. https://wattsupwiththat.com/2013/05/08/the-effectiveness-of-co2-as-a-greenhouse-gas-becomes-ever-more-marginal-with-greater-concentration/ https://knowledgedrift.wordpress.com/2011/09/07/co2-is-logarithmic-explained-3/ |

Venus doesn't have any coal-fired power plants, which proves that Anthropogenic Global Warming is a hoax.

It is correct On Mercury there is barely any atmosphere to retain the heat so at night it drops to -173o C On Venus the atmosphere is so thick that it retains the heat and the temperature barely changes from night to day |

Shouldn't this be in the Environment forum?
BTW - clouds are the greatest greenhouse gas. Ever notice how cold it can be on a clear night? |

VENUS: to show us what would become of our planet if Pollution took control.
MARS: to show us what would become of our planet if War took control. ...PLUTO: to show us that 'Life' is where we least expect it, regardless of how 'insignificant' it comes across as. |
