That tells them the answer they want and protects them from the truth.

So to tldr this mess, Trump has been exploiting these people his entire terms and they're fine with it.  He really could shoot someone on 5th avenue and they'd still support him.  His failures are always someone else's fault and anything positive is because of him.  They don't even care when he breaks the law as long as he's winning.

This is why he'll win the next election and the people will support his attempts to go for a 3rd despite how tightly they cling to the Consitution when they like what it has to say.
