Title: Coronavirus - super claims stopped. Post by Bobby. on May 8th, 2020 at 4:32pm
It's only a temporary halt to stop theft.

Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton said on Friday that superannuation details of clients were being used in 'a fraudulent way' after a tax agent was hacked. Mr Dutton said the Australian Federal Police, the ATO, financial intelligence agency AUSTRAC and other government agencies were investigating the identity theft. Australians had withdrawn almost $1 billion in total from their superannuation funds as of Thursday. 'There has been one tax agent that has been the subject of a hacking or cyber-attack and personal details of clients that are part of that business, they have been exploited,' Mr Dutton told Sky News. 'There's been no cyber intrusion within the superannuation funds or the ATO. The AFP have really ramped up their engagement to make sure we can come down very heavily on those who would seek to rip off the funds of other taxpayers.' The Home Affairs Minister said government agencies had 'jumped pretty quickly to deal with this threat'. |

That's more than a year's worth of street muggings in Australia. How easy is that.
Crime is paying $$$$ and a lot get away with it. |

Apparently some super funds have been scammed by scammers using false information to get cash from some decent citizen's accounts... Melbadishu was mentioned...
Wonder what kind of Usual Suspects they are this time? Free choice, innit? |

That's why resources should be dedicated to stopping or slowing this kind of crime, and serious punishment be the reward for scamming.... and I don't mean five years in Camp Fed - I mean ten years on the real chain gang cutting the grass on the side of the highways in the Outback in summer, and Tasmania in Winter.... I'd suggest that would be sufficient rehabilitation and incentive to sin no more.... next offence hanging... Bobby?? |

So glad I do my own tax returns.
Tax agents are a rip-off. They basically do the online form anyway but charge you a fee for nothing. |
