A big line of people outside a LA gun shop. I wonder how many of them realise there is a 10 day wait for them to pick it up after buying it if all goes well with required paperwork.

They will have to hope the rioters and looters don't target them for about 10 days.

"Good things can happen when it's used, as well as bad things, just like fire.” LAX Range and Ammo owner Daniel Kash says there is 'unprecedented demand like never before' for guns and ammo. Some tools in the hands of the untrained are simply too dangerous to contemplate.  I am trained in the use of firearms because of my professional experience in the Army.  You don't have that safety net.  Tsk, tsk. ::) ::)

Don't overestimate your military training, they teach you just enough to not shoot your own foot with what they issue. I never bought an AR rifle, just stripped lower receivers and boxes of parts. I assembled several and they all worked just fine and every one was different to fill a different roll. Maybe your purchasers bought rifles chambered in .233 and bought ammo in 5.56, they are not the same and are only interchangeable one way! I've reloaded thousands of rounds for those rifles and tens of thousands of rounds for other calibers and both case length and crimp are very important to proper function!

I still don't see how you could have fumbled out the magazine, being a professional and all.

With revolvers open the cylinder and dump the ammo in my hand and hand it off, for single action open the loading gate and remove ammo. In the military the first thing you are taught is how to "clear" the weapon.  Make sure it is safe and that there is no ammunition in the action.  When you are first handed a firearm at the armoury,  the first thing you do is inspect the action and announce "clear!" in a loud, clear voice, Mort.  It informs to all and sundry that you know what you are doing.  Doesn't matter where you point the firearm, as long as you have cleared it's action.  In the F88 Steyr that also includes removing the barrel from the weapon and inspecting the chamber.

If your job in the Military is never expected to require you to serve as a rifleman you probably don't need any training with firearms. A friend has a son in the Army and told him if you want to go to the range they will issue all the ammo you can shoot as often as you like.

That seems to be the fault of your Armorer, small parts are easy to replace and when one causes a problem change it out. If it is an ongoing problem I don't see why a more durable part would not be used!

Unlike the US Army where you are a specialist first and foremost, in the Australian Army, diggers are trained to be Riflemen first and foremost.  I was a qualified Rifleman, a Machinegunner, a Grenadier and a Mortar Number before I transferred out of the RAR to Ordnance.  In Ordnance because of my experience was I was invariably placed in charge of the IMT (Infantry Minor Tactics) training of my underlings.  I know what I am talking about as far as weapons are concerned.  You're an amateur.

The ammunition was manufactured in Australia to US Army specifications.  It was marked 5.56mm Ball on the cartons issued.   I would assume it was 5.56x45mm Ball ammunition.

Americans are notoriously vague and nonchalant as far as weapons and equipment are concerned.   I have attended joint exercises with US Marines where we routinely sent the sappers into "clear" their accommodation after they left.  What they used to find was amazing and dangerous.  We didn't trust them.   I once attended a joint exercise we had a US Marine cook assigned to us.  He wanted to fire our Bren gun and was quite willing to arrange for a box of ammunition to be flown in from his carrier off shore.  This was on an exercise where live ammunition was FORBIDDEN.   He was stopped.   Americans are dangerous.   ::) ::) ::)

I don't believe drawing a paycheck to be a soldier makes you more skilled or a professional.  I never claimed to be an accomplished soldier but I know how to maintain my equipment better than you apparently. If you didn't learn to drive a vehicle until your time in the Army that wouldn't make you a professional driver! I qualified expert marksman in the Boy Scouts but don't take it too seriously. As for being an amateur, I admit to being an amateur gunsmith. I've built a matched pair of 1911's and several AR-15s to my personal specifications. I've used the empty cases to make less common calibers, 30 Mauser 30 Tokerov and 300 blackout. Made .400 corbon from .45acp and 7.62×38mmR from 32-20 cases. All safety rules observed!!!

I've seen the rifle in war documentaries as well. It was larger than the standard issue rifle. I'll keep searching and post a video if I find one

The BAR is classified as a light machine gun, as that was the purpose it was designed for, but it can also be effectively wielded as a shoulder fired weapon, sort of like a modern day assault rifle. I was driving the back roads at eleven with my father teaching me, I had a learners permit at 15 and full license at 16. I had a private pilots license at 19 and had to pay for that one by myself. I am a knowledgeable hobbyist and can at least keep my equipment running. Magazines don't fall out here and we don't blame the gun for poor handling. I know why a mag would fail to seat properly and can fix the problem if it is a mechanical issue! As I stated before, it is a poor workman who blames his tools!

When the weapon fails to perform as advertised on exercise, you have to ask questions about the weapon's design, Mort.  No other weapon I am aware of has problems with magazines when firing blanks.  As I have noted, your rifled do not fire as many rounds, as often and none of them would be blank.   It is poor design.  QED.  ::) ::)

American born Citizens are all native Americans.

My observation is these people that like to speak a language other people don't understand are the first to act offended when it same is done in their presence. I've seen more than one group of Mexicans get offended when people speech a European language other than English.

No one really owns land, you just control some of it for a period of time.


The goal of government is to grow and it can't do that with a shrinking population. If the Native population does not grow it will import as many as needed to make up for the shortage. The culture may be destroyed but the government will survive! Which would you want in the long term, your culture or your government?
