Title: Could you eat your cat or dog? Post by Jovial Monk on Jun 22nd, 2020 at 2:19pm
Of course—you say no. But you would if need arose.
As in the siege of Vicksburg in the US Civil War. Gen Grant and his army encircled Vicksburg on the land and the US river fleet completed the encirclement on the Mississippi. Towards the end of the 47 days the siege lasted cats and dogs had disappeared: the standing joke was “Where’s Fido?” They knew where Fido was, oh yeah. Rats were eaten too. As forage ran out the army mules died/were slaughtered. Mule meat was not sirloin steak! In the part of Holland where I was born in late 1944 the Germans were still occupying the land—and shipping whatever food etc they could find back to the Fatherland. The Dutch population was, literally, starving. Yup, dogs and cats disappeared. One of Mum’s brothers was among a party cutting down a street tree for firewood (probably breaching curfew.) Some Dutch civil police had been watching them—and when the tree was down they confiscated it, LOL! Typical! Look up “Operation Chowhound.” |

When I read the thread title I assumed you meant eat it as in...well....
Is this the direction you'd take the forum if you were mod? |

No, just exploring attitudes, trying to be a little provocative. I have posted a bit of a platform. Constant bestiality hints reflect on you not me. Maybe think about that.

What a terrible subject -
such a good example as to why we don't need Monk in this MRB. |

It is a question comes up occasionally. I have quoted two cases: Siege of Vicksburg and Holland in the last Hunger Winter of WWII. Some Antarctic explorers (Mawson) did the same thing.
Just being real. I hope it never is necessary again but the world is not always a friendly place. I am certainly not advocating the practice. |

In very hard times it is a fact that people do eat their pets. They will also eat rats when hard pressed.
Hmmmm another case, the Germans in the Franco–Prussian War had Paris surrounded and were starving it. The animals in the zoo didn’t last to the end of the siege. |

Sure. Except it was not a roach-infested kitchen. Let's trade. I will re-tell that 'roach' event (easy to do because it really happened) and you can tell us all about that corrupt Immigration Lawyer you know all about. You even socialised with the arsehole. That really happened as well, didn't it? Deal? |

Anyone who frequents Chinese takeaway shops have probably eaten cats and dogs, with soy sauce and black bean sauce.
It would be different if you were eating your own pet pet, smoked and basted with chili sauce washed down with a VB is not to bad. |

There are some infamous places where they hold a festival to eat dogmeat. the dogs are killed very cruelly.
This stuff happens. Can we stop it? Not daring to look does not count as an effort. |
