From mainly Europe in the last 2 centuries. Then the Mexicans, South Americans and some Chinese chip in. Mexico, Vietnam and the Phillippines start pissing it in. Australia sends out the occasional lobbed dot in the last 50 years.

Canada's contribution is surprising to me.

Yeah very few Australian's immigrate to the US. I've heard of several in this area but never met one. Plenty of British, German and Scandinavian recents but no Ozzies or Kiwis.

Not really!

If you lived in that frozen wasteland wouldn't you want to leave?

They are not coming now, are they?

America's current immigration policies are by and large the product of a Cold War strategy to defeat the Soviet Union economically. And it worked. Personally, and you may be surprised at me saying this, I don't think America needs those sort of immigrants anymore.

You would expect a lot coming from the bordering countries.

For the last 40+ years, they migrate by the tens of thousands to the USA....especially Florida......every Autumn thru Spring......they are called "Snow-Birds" by the Floridians.....some because of medical shortages in Canada, to go to Florida to get the medical care they can't get in Canada, & to get away for the horrible cold that exists in Canada for 8 to 10 months of the year........https://www.snowbirdadvisor.ca/

Indeed. We have common sense.

Yes, I know all about Snowbirds, polesmoker (I live in Atlanta). The healthcare claim is largely false except for a few MRI clinics along the border. Why would Canadians want to pay many times what they would pay for healthcare in their own country?

Exactly.

What possible reason would an Australian have for moving to the US?

Actors to Hollywood, musicians to Nashville.

Sure.  I'll go along with that.

What about Fat Steve & Janine though - what would attract them?

We have McDonald's in Australia, everywhere you look.

We have pay TV and online streaming services.

We also have a better healthcare system (by FAR), better wages, less guns, better beaches, more public holidays, a higher life expectancy, etc.

Apart from being with family who might have moved there, I can't see any reason why an average Australian would want to move to the US.

Sorry Greggy,
your posts normally contain so much dribble that I
usually don't read more than a few words of them.
I suppose I miss a few good ones that way - never mind.

Oh, I'd say a shopping mall with lots of KFC and Maccas they can swill on, feeding their deplorable lives of pure garbage.

You?

This was coming from figures of 20 years ago: More Australian nationals live in the United States than Americans living in Australia. The figures I was quote was 200,000 Australians in the United States. 70,000 Americans living in Australia.

Though 20 years ago, I doubt that the numbers have changed much.

The reason I was quoted was that the United States had a developed computer industry compared to Australia's developing computer industry. There was better paid work in demand over in the USA. Australia's industry paid well. But not nearly as well in the USA.

How things have changed in 20 years, I have not researched.

Olivia Newton-John was born a Hawaiin, as too was Nicole Kidman. Daddo Bros, Mel Gibson - Canadian and there's more.

The clip didn't show the big migration from West Africa. Wracist innit?

California has the highest amount of Australians in it, but they never venture far from the beaches. 200 years of Aboriginals and 'their' land, kinda keeps em close to the water and knowing their place as a Whitey, while the Yellows stick to the cities.
