Title: Coonawarra Wine Regiom Post by Jovial Monk on Nov 1st, 2020 at 7:41am
In the south east of SA by the town of Penola.
Too far for a nice day drive I have not been there lately—tied down with caring for my old Mum. When Demi was young and trialling I did go to the Mt Gambier trials on Easter Saturday and Sunday, staying with a niece living near Mt Gambier. Did I visit some wineries on the way back to Adelaide? You bet your bippy I did! It is on terra rosa soil: Quote:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terra_rossa_(soil)#:~:text=Terra%20rossa%20(%20Italian%20for%20%22red,formation%20of%20hematite%20over%20goethite. Not all Coonawarra wineries are on terra rosa soil and some wineries classified as out of the Coonawarra wine region are on terra rosa soil! When I started buying wine I bought a few bottles of Rouge Homme encrusted with labels showing prizes it had won. Delicious wine after I had cellared it a few years. The Rouge Homme winery and vineyards were sold and everyone thought the family that had owned them would no longer be in the wine industry. Ha! Redman winery soon opened and out shadowed the Rouge Homme label “Rouge Homme” is French for Red Man! Great reds! Redman make no white wines (neither does Noons in the Southern Vales.) Their reds from are elegant, flavorsome etc, all you want in a table wine. Alas! I have no Redman wines to give a review. |
