Title: The Earth is Greener
Post by Sprintcyclist on Dec 8th, 2020 at 8:40pm

Quote:
............  Earth has continued to grow green since the turn of the century and this could help moderate global warming, according to new maps released by the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA). High levels of carbon dioxide increased photosynthesis, according to authors of a review paper published in Nature Reviews Earth & Environment.

An updated map (above) released by the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) showed how greenness increased between 2000 and 2018 globally. The areas where greenness increased were marked in green and areas where it decreased were marked in brown.        ................

We would benefit from more CO2

Sprintcyclist is implying that the greening of the arctic is a good thing.

The greening of the arctic is evidence that temperatures in the arctic and antarctic are rising faster than the average temperature rise of the planet.

It's not a good portent because the greening will cause more heat to be absorbed from the sun which was previously reflected back into space by ice and snow.

Would it be fair to say that the recent coldest temperature record being broken could suggest that the average global temperature is cooling?

Fat chance!

Record heat.... global warming. Record cold... climate change. La Nina record rainfall... global warming. Drought... climate change.

And those tree stumps above the snow line keep telling tales. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Lee is evidently eager to win a contract for his stump-jump plough.

Off you go.

What if this 'extreme' and erratic climate change of very cold, very hot, very wet, very dry, etc. What if the climate is warping towards an outcome??

What if it manifests in a world where the Equator is a constant 30C degrees and both Poles are a constant 10C degrees... just like what the Saurians enjoyed? Their hazy sky is our hazy polluted sky. Who knows, your planet is probably already being 'terraformed' from behind closed doors.

Poor petal. So for them to be above the snowline; in the past they must have been below the snowline. Climate changes - who knew? ;)

So, Geta: What do you think about this reported increase in greening?

The only working map in the link shows the predicted increase from 2081 to 2100.

A significant increase in green cover in boreal and Arctic regions was observed in the new maps, which researchers attributed to rising temperatures. For example, Svalbard in the high-Arctic saw a 30 per cent increase in greenness, according to Rama Nemani of NASA’s Ames Research Center and co-author of review paper. The green cover grew with an increase in mean summer temperature from to 4.7° Celsius from 2.9° Celsius (37.2° to 40.5° Fahrenheit) between 1986 and 2015.

Oh dear,
So the increase in greenness is mostly because of global warming in the higher latitudes
Thanks for providing evidence that climate change is real

Ah no thats not the case.
Like most things there will be advantages and disadvantages to our increasing levels of CO2
The disadvantages however overwhelmingly outway the advantages with CO2. Especially considering how much our modern economies rely on a stable climate

Who ever said it wasn't petal. It has changed for eons. Glaciation, interglaciation, glaciation, interglaciation.

Perhaps you can show some of the proven disadvantages.

BTW- whenever did the earth have a stable climate. ::)
