Title: Fit Shaming
Post by AiA on Dec 20th, 2020 at 10:45am
"Fit shaming" is seen more and more in the USA - fat celebrities lose weight and are attacked for it, while 40,000 people die a month from obesity-related causes. "You are special and perfect just the way you are!" is the catch phrase these days.

The kids who already had lunch seagulled 3/4 of the chips.

Here's how to stay lean.

Up at 530, 5k walk. Beach at 9 for a 3 hour/12k paddle smd and surf. The food coma from that burger is creeping but will be back down the bench at 4ish for another session.

That is plain self-abuse, imo.

Choices have consequences.

If those who choose them [those consequences], want them, then that is OK.

Q.
But why should i or others, HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REMEDIATION OF, THEIR CONSEQUENCES [i.e. choices] ?

.

Am i being hard ?

Is that a 'hard' attitude, towards people 'who need the help of others' ?

And yet, if i was 'in their face' [these tubs of LARD] and critical, of their lifestyle choices [and if i was warning them of the consequences of their choices],    ....would you also then, accuse me of persecuting such people [for their own lifestyle choices] ???

Hey !!

Just where in all of this, am i the good guy !        ;D

We can't be responsible, for the choices [i.e. for the mistakes] which other people make.

I am, and should be, responsible, for the mistakes which i make.     [....if i keep making the same poor choices.]

180 cm,    65 kg
....and healthy.

The tradition of 3 meals a day is completely false.
We only need about 2,000 calories a day
which we could easily get from even one small meal.

A Maccas hamburger is already over 2,000 calories
and that's without the fries and the coke.
Some people would call that a snack.
No wonder people weigh too much.

I don't really do 'meals' if I can help it beyond participating with others who do so or to put on for visitors.
I mostly just nibble along the way these days.
Small amounts of food in a continuous nibble.
As we get older, our metabolism slows.
Many men who continue to eat like a younger male of -35 years of age, tend to develop quickly that 'pudge' and over-weight look. They also look more tired as their digestion takes more energy to consume.

The 'nibbling' came from Nursing. Taking a 1/2 hour break even, could put my entire duties behind in regards to patients and I only reserved any breaks to click my little battery alarm clock to wake me as I close my eyes and zone out - especially on long Graveyard shifts and Doubles (16hr). Also, nothing worse than that 'full' feeling of a 'meal' that makes me want to roll over like a lion under a tree after a feed, rather than getting back up to work. Unlike a more 'rested' feeling of using the break to just 'rest' body and mind. Occassionally when passing my Nursing Station or doing paperwork there - I would 'nibble'. Many fellow Staff did the same. It's a more efficient way of working.
Couldn't really do it in Construction. Always harder to get back to work that way than feeling refreshed.

If I get distracting hunger pains (like thirst) - I don't wait 3 hours to break time. I take another break of a block of chocolate or a few foil wrapped treats from a box as I'm walking past the 'stash' - mostly provided as a thankyou from Patients and Visitors. Perpetual motion and Cruise control - never stopping, never wilting from hunger. Never feeling 'over-tired' from a Meal and the digestive energy to deal with it as it also raises body temperature like coal to a furnace.

I do not understand. Rural Australia usually misses out on higher rates of obesity compared to regional and metropolitan Australia. My time out in Emerald and Longreach, you would rarely find anyone out there that is more than a bit overweight. The heat that they have to endure for 8 months of the year means that they have to keep their weight down.

The experience I have had over the years have been evidence that it is not about the size of meals they have per day. It is more about quality of the meals and number of meals. I do not know what you mean by the *type* of snacks you are having. Sandwiches, perhaps? But, if the snacks are not all that healthy, then you are not going to control your weight.

You can eat 3 meals a day and perhaps a few snacks. The only real conditions is that you eat low sugar meals and exercise with constructive activity and recreation to make sure you are not spiking your insulin levels too much that you end up gaining that weight.

Hooray! Somebody finally mentioned exercise.
The other aspect of all this is the fact many people’s metabolism changes with age.
Often in middle age we burn up calories and absorb fat in ways that make weight control more difficult. Add to this so many of us in the west are sitting on our bums all day and living far longer thanks to advances in modern medicine. The result of these factors is how we eat, what we eat and when can take on a very different meaning as we age. When younger I spent a lot of time running in marathons and competing in triathlons. When my knees finally gave out with age and over-use I was very suddenly unable to eat vast amounts of anything that took my fancy. Took me a few years to figure out how radically I had to change my diet.
Not everyone though has the same metabolism. I have an eighty year old friend who exercised little yet eats whatever takes his fancy. Interestingly his normal body temp is a few degrees above average which may mean he’s ‘burning up’ what he eats faster.
It’s ironic we’re having this discussion whilst the majority of our species on this planet haven’t access to sufficient food.
That gets me onto the down side of the consumption of obscene amounts of meat in ‘advanced’ societies but I’ll leave that lecture alone - - for now.

I used to be flat out 24/7/365 and very physically until 48, when I went down with a busted knee.... three years.... and then I developed heart troubles according to the family genetic structure - which I never expected.  So I ate like a hog and was built like a greyhound.... then ate like a hog and got a nice retirement tummy... my doctor thinks it's purely a beer belly, but I have a very high protein and carb diet generally, and not that much exercise these days.

Yes. It's not junk food... besides yum chocolate, which I can assure you in Nursing, gets used. A nice big Valencia orange is better than having x3 coffees on a shift.

It's definitely Quality over Quantity when you reach the slower metabolism of Middle-Age.
But lucky are those who get to enjoy a good quantity of quality food when they are young.
I still spend a bit more on quality healthier foods/drinks.
I don't go ridiculous on the latest boutique shop health gimmick food/drink though. In time, those prices come down as the 'stayers' keep on among the latest out.
I use McDonalds if I am sea-sick/motion-sick - it sits 'heavy' in the stomach and keeps things down.

As a keen student of nature
The solution is really fairly simple

Human beings don't eat enough real food

This is a list of what you should eat and you can pretty well have as much as you want

Meat fish chicken any vegetable any fruit
Any nut eggs

If it grows in the ground or grows on an animal your ancestors have been eating it for tens of thousands of generations and it's good for you

Here is a list of things you should never eat
Your ancestors never ate them
And ID be fairly sure that they cause bowel cancer prostate cancer breast cancer ovarian cancer

Never touch anything made by

Cadbury's
Arnotts
Kellogg's
Any type of highly processed bread
Nestle
Streets peters or Paul's
Sara Lee
McCain's
Golden circle
Uncle tobys
Heinz
Craft
And of course it goes without saying never touch anything made by
McDonald's
KFC
Pizza hut or dominos
And last but not least the Coca-Cola corporation

If you eat what people ate for 99.9999 percent of human history you will be healthy

If you are a lazy sad miserable
Loser
Who bounces out of bed in the morning with no plan
Except to stimulate yourself
then of course you are going to stimulate yourself with sugar fat and salt
That's because your life is kind of meaningless

By my estimation
When I see that 65 to 70% of Australians are now fat
Over two-thirds of the population have no purpose in life other than to pleasure themselves

Hence the life of pure garbage

Much of the problem with eating fast foods is the fact that it is cheap and convenient -- not that cheap and convenient food is a problem. However, your brain is wired into thinking that going out and visiting a restaurant is a way of being social with the community. I suppose it is. But, you are not really doing more than being social whilst you eat sugary fatty food.

My trouble with alcohol started with being social out at parties and out at the nightclubs. My friend wanted me to have a couple of drinks with him (so that he did not have a whole bottle of bourbon by himself). That was 16 years of age. I got drunk for the first time when I was 17. I got really inebriated at age 18. From then on, it was a matter of drinking when I felt like it, but no more than once a month. Then the drinking became a matter of association with being sociable.

People eat fast food and drink to feel like they are being social. When people themselves recognise that the drinking and fast food becomes a problem to their physical and mental well-being, that is when they make corrections to their eating and drinking habits. Otherwise, they continue the downward spiral.

Fat-shaming works. It is hurtful to the recipient until they go one way or the other with their health. Fit-shaming should be non-existent.

I love the way skinny undernourished and unhealthy vegans and vegitarians seem to think they are healthy just because they dont eat something.

Being healthy is more than not eating something, its about lifestyle, exercise and mental health.

My children have many vegan and vegitarian friends, they are always sick or tired.

A recent bushwalk with a few of them was an exercise in stopping ever few k for them to rest.
Im far from fit, yet I had no issue with this short 20k walk.

I just wish all these jokers who seem to think they are the best should shut their cake holes and wake up.

Fitness isnt all about being skinny and eating nothing but plants.

After all, cows are vegans and they dont live very long, but they make great streaks.

I like the excuses the fat carrnts come up with.
Oh...and I like their stories of their accolades as a child. Dreams are free I suppose.

You still haven't grown past your point of being deposited from your mother's rear ........ how did the doctors let her get away with it?

You're just 'slow' - admit it and move on - leave the adult discussion to your betters.....

I often see fat ugly women fit shaming the people using the outdoor beach gym.  They usually look like they've never done a jot of physical activity for 20 years.

Some of the folks using the gym are amongst the finest human specimens you could ever see and the fat cows always assume just because people are exercising in public they're showing off when they truth is it's a free gym, out in the fresh air and you can then have a swim.

Probably not for the outdoor gym types.

They're not massive, just strong, lean and toned.
They run, swim and do calisthenic rather than grunting out super heavy sets.

I actually don't see the massive silverbacks using the outdoor equipment, why waddle around the boardwalk looking ridiculous.

I do not see how this could possibly be true. The "fat ugly women" might feel a bit jealous of seeing physically active people around. But fit-shaming would not be part of the critiquing. I would be that the "fat ugly women" are probably fat-shaming themselves.

The "fat ugly women" were attracted to Three-fingers Haji Gordon?

Perhaps Three-fingers Haji Gordon should buy a new mirror instead of deluding itself.

"Fat ugly women" need ways to vent their frustrations about not being able to say "no" to another slice of cheesecake. I still find it bullshit that they would tell off fit women/people who are out making their physiques looking better in the eyes of those around them.

I cannot fathom how anyone could fit-shame someone. I mean, look at me. Okay, don't look at me. But, when I look in the mirror after taking off my shirt, I could be looking at someone ready to throw salt around the ring before I charge at someone. Or, I could be someone able to get through the day without feeling overly tired after some effort. The difference is usually 2 weeks of good diet, exercise, and sleep.

I look at my adult daughter and wonder how it is that she could be bikini model attractive and win beauty contests when half of her DNA come from me. But I remember that I was physically lean and muscular when I was her age. People like her should be a glowing example of how to keep physically healthy. Fit-shaming people, if they exist, should be criticising themselves instead.
