Covid-19: Vaccine as good in 'real world' as in trial in Israel

More data from Israel's vaccination programme is suggesting the Pfizer jab prevents 94% of symptomatic infections.

This indicates the vaccine is performing just as well in a larger population as it did in the clinical trials.

It is proving highly effective at preventing illness and severe disease among all age groups, according to public health doctor Prof Hagai Levine.

"High vaccination coverage of the most susceptible groups" was key, he said.

Israel's largest health fund Clalit looked at positive tests in 600,000 vaccinated people and the same number of unvaccinated people, matched by age and health status.

It found 94% fewer infections among the vaccinated group.

This was based on test results in people's medical records, usually taken if they had symptoms or were a close contact of someone who had tested positive.

And the vaccine prevented almost all cases of serious illness.

This pattern was the same in all age groups - including the over-70s, who may have been under-represented in clinical trials.

The data has not yet been formally published.

I'm not planning on accepting a COVID vaccine.

Something which is guiding this decision, is.....

In past years, i have NEVER had a flu vaccination.

And in the last 30 years, i have never 'caught' the flu or winter colds.

If i never catch winter flu or colds, my immune system may be strong enough to protect me from COVID too.

Also in consideration, is that this COVID vaccine, is a completely new medical therapy.

And i don't want to be used as an uninformed guinea pig.

There for logic will dictate
That the Australian population will be vaccinated with the astrazeneca vaccine ;D

I would have agreed with you, in the past.

However, I've only ever had the flu twice in my life, and I haven't had a cold for at least 12 years.

30 years might be stretching it a bit, but there are certainly people out there less susceptible to the flu and colds than others.

Runny nose is mucus production, coughing and sneezing are removal of particlkes. In other words, the symptoms are signs of your immune system fighting back. The symptoms aren't there as much when we age because our overall immune system diminishes as we age.

So what I mean is you're still getting particularly colds to a certain extent but you just aren't displaying the symptoms.

Every winter [and summer, and spring and autumn] i may very well be exposed to viruses associated with flu and winter colds,
but my immune system seems well able to protect me.

Why so ?

Well you see bojack, when i read my bible, i commune with my God.

And while i'm in communion with my God, when i read his WORD, my God teaches me how to choose.

The flu vaccination is very safe and there are plenty of social reasons to get it.
I get it every year and I'll be getting Covid vaccine for exactly the same reason.

Some people can be infected with the flu virus but have no symptoms. During this time, those people may still spread the virus to others.

I've heard it too. It might be the AstraZeneca vaccine

No one has had the vaccine, not sure why people are saying they have. No vaccine is currently available in Australia as per the federal government and the AstraZeneca vaccine only just received official approval yesterday.

Watched QandA last night discussing the vaccines. Seems one lot has a higher protective percentage than another. That AstraZeneca seems less protective?

So I’m happy to wait at least a year before deciding.
In the meantime, I take care... as Yadda said... about making good decisions.
Sanitising, masks, distancing in public, eating fresh foods (better home cooked from scratch) drink plenty water without that fluoride, and take supplements. Oh and get plenty rest/sleep and moderate exercise/movement.
No smoking, and definitely minimal alcohol and cut the sugar intake.
How hard can that be :)

I know many are on prescriptions, but try not to allow yourself to get coerced into a bucketful of all sorts prescriptions.... question it and research it first. It horrified me when I was in hospital once, with hubby as he had a cast put on for fractured ankle....
I witnessed this younger woman than myself, having some weird panic anxiety attack... she was calmed with some medication... then I saw one of the ambo officers putting into a computer all her medications... OMG.... I could not believe how much there was...a basket load!
In a honesty... some doctors love to over prescribe and some people are not discerning enough... they themselves become prescription junkies! Maybe a touch of hypochondria there in the mix too?
Don’t get me wrong... some prescriptions are a godsend and lifesaver, but....nothing exceeds like excess.

Of course I saw the video.
I haven't made up my mind yet about the vaccines.
The mRNA ones are certainly scary if they go wrong.
The reaction could be delayed until you get another strain of Corona virus.

You don't get a choice which vaccine. Get in early for Pfizer at public hospitals, or wait a while for the Oxford one

They're not likely to have both at the same time. Basically, you'll get what you're given

I would imagine you could choose.

I am tending toward the Astra zenica one.
It is English and stores at 4 degrees.
The 4 degrees makes a big difference.
Any normal fridge is ok for it.

It is more likely to be in good condition when it is injected than one that needs -80 degrees.

And as for the second one. There was a COVID outbreak in the nursing home at the time of the vaccination program and as is well known you aren't protected until you get the 2nd vaccination
