Melbourne is doomed -
it's the killer Indian variant. https://www.9news.com.au/national/coronavirus-victoria-update-no-new-cases-of-covid19-as-testing-sites-close-latest-numbers/082e9616-00e4-4566-abc4-5ec9883a2180 "Potentially he has been symptomatic the longest," Professor Sutton said of the latest case, confirming all five cases in the cluster were infected with the Indian variant of the coronavirus. "We do not know where he has been in the community." Professor Sutton said the man was still being interviewed by contact tracers. What has been established is case five and case one, a man in his 30s, met for a business transaction last Tuesday, May 18, so health officials believe he was infectious from at least 10 days ago. |

Victorian health authorities are combing through CCTV and potentially thousands of AFL fans will be ordered into self-isolation after a person with COVID-19 went to a match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground at the weekend. Today confirmed there are already cars lined up waiting to get into the Northern Hospital testing site, with the first person arriving 90 minutes before doors opened. The positive case sat in zone four, level one, of the Great Southern Stand, at the Punt Road end of the ground, to watch Collingwood's nail-biting loss to Port Adelaide on Sunday, the Department of Health said. Fans seated in bays M1 to M16 will be contacted and told to get tested and isolate but that advice could be extended to more parts of the stadium after security footage is reviewed. The 100,000-seat venue was less than a quarter full for the Power's one-point win, according to Austadiums, but thousands of fans may still have been sitting in the affected section. It's not clear which of the nine cases identified so far watched the Pies-Power clash but the potential spreading of the virus at the MCG poses a major setback for Victorian authorities racing to keep the cluster from growing. |

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-05-26/covid-live-updates-victoria-coronavirus/100165480#live-blog-post-1200946628 Recapping the situation in Victoria There was a bit happening during that press conference, so here's a quick snapshot of the main announcements: A sixth locally acquired case was confirmed. Five new locally acquired cases were announced shortly after 8:00am (there were 10 cases in total, five of which were reported on yesterday), but Acting Premier James Merlino confirmed authorities had been advised of a sixth new case shortly before the press conference. That case will be included in tomorrow's figures. It brings the latest outbreak to 15 cases, all of which are linked and are believed to have stemmed from the hotel quarantine breach in South Australia. However, contact tracers are still looking for the "missing link". The Department of Health has identified 301 primary close contacts from the outbreak, with negative results being returned for about 80 of those. Test results for the remainder are expected to come through today. Mr Merlino says he can't rule out taking "further action" in terms of restrictions, adding that the next 24 hours will be "critical". Work is underway to set up additional testing sites across the state |

Post by Bobby. on May 26th, 2021 at 1:04pm https://thebfd.co.nz/2021/05/26/victoria-here-we-go-again-again/ Once is an accident, twice a coincidence: but if Victoria gets hit with yet another wave of the Wuhan virus, then that’s just sheer, staggering incompetence. Victoria is far and away Australia’s worst-performing state in the COVID pandemic: more than twice the number of infections and a shocking nine times as many deaths as all the other seven states and territories combined. That horrific failure is almost entirely due to the Andrews government. It was the Andrews government which set up to fail the disastrous hotel quarantine scheme that was the origin of some 90% of its infections and deaths. Victoria also reacted with the known strategy of failure: community-wide lockdowns (although, to be fair, most Western governments have stupidly followed much the same useless policy). Yet Premier Daniel Andrews boasts that Victoria has “higher standards” of pandemic management than any other state. That boast looks likely to be put to the test. Again. Victoria has reimposed mask mandates – $200 on-the-spot fines for non-compliance – and other restrictions after recording a handful of new cases. Perhaps this is just a typical overreaction from the authoritarians who’ve become addicted to locking whole populations down. Others are worried that it’s a grim case of déjà vu. |

Acting Premier James Merlino announced the Stage Three restrictions will last for seven days. "Unless something changes, this will be increasingly uncontrollable," he told reporters. Earlier on Thursday, the Department of Health announced 11 further local cases, taking the outbreak's total to 26. Residents will only be allowed to leave their homes for five essential reasons, those being work or education, essential shopping, two-hour exercise, medical treatment or assistance and to get vaccinated. Shopping and exercise can only take place five kilometres from a resident’s home while pubs, cafes and restaurants will only be allowed to provide takeaway services. Visits to aged care and health facilities will be prohibited unless meeting the exemption criteria. Masks will now be compulsory as outside as well as in public indoor locations. Childcare and kinder will stay open, but schools will close. Visitors to homes are not allowed unless intimate partners. Mr Merlino said the state's public health experts' "primary concern is how fast this variant is moving". "We've seen more evidence we're dealing with a highly infectious strain of the virus, a variant of concern, which is running faster than we have ever recorded," he said. He said the speed at which the virus was being contracted and passed on was now far quicker, with the onset of symptoms now between one to two days as opposed to about five days previously. Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton said the strain, which is the Indian B1617 variant, "really is rapid and that's led to the exponential increase". Mr Merlino said more than 10,000 primary and secondary contacts have been identified alongside more than 150 exposure sites which stretch from the NSW border to the Mornington Peninsula. All contacts are required to isolate. He confirmed the 11 new cases were linked to previous cases. One of the cases is in ICU and requires a ventilator. Genomic sequencing shows the outbreak is linked to the case of a Wollert man, with an official SA report on Wednesday suggesting he caught the virus from aerosol transmission in an Adelaide quarantine hotel. But a definitive link between the Wollert man and the Whittlesea outbreak has not been established." |

"deja vu" is putting it mildly. As I've said before, I'd like to see small business owners (and others affected by these never ending lockdowns) start filing class action lawsuits against the Federal and State governments then we might see how quickly they sort out this ongoing hotel quarantine fiasco (in all States). Highly infectious Melbourne strain
'could become uncontrollable' By Tom Livingstone • Producer 12:24pm May 27, 2021 https://www.9news.com.au/national/melbourne-coronavirus-update-over-10000-contacts-already-linked-to-outbreak/3dd4539c-f64d-4ee0-8d87-c1138d9bfa2d Health authorities are pleading for Victorians to adhere to the state's circuit-breaker lockdown, with more than 10,000 close contacts already linked to the current outbreak. Acting Premier James Merlino said there are now 34 active cases of coronavirus in Victoria, 26 of which are directly linked to the hotel quarantine leak in South Australia. One of those cases is currently in intensive care. LIVE UPDATES: All the latest breaking news on Melbourne's growing coronavirus outbreak Mr Merlino said the strain spreading throughout Melbourne is highly infectious and the rate it is spreading has never been seen before. "In the last day, we've seen more evidence we're dealing with a highly infectious strain of the virus, a variant of concern, which is running faster than we have ever recorded," Mr Merlino said. "We have identified in excess of 10,000 primary and secondary contacts who will need to either quarantine, or test and isolate, and that number will continue to grow and change. "Our public health experts' primary concern is how fast this variant is moving. "We've seen overseas how difficult that movement can be to control. "Here in Victoria, we're seeing not only how quick it is, but how contagious it is as well." |

I recall a year ago when the first stages of the coronavirus in Australia emerged, we Rockhamptonites had a bit of a laugh at the city folk acting all entitled to hoarding toilet paper in the larger cities. It started in Sydney and Melbourne. The concept of hoarding toilet paper made its way up to Brisbane and the Gold Coast. But by about March, Rockhampton started to see toilet paper rolls disappearing from the supermarket shelves.
I was down to about 2 rolls of toilet paper at home for myself (seeing that I live by myself). I knew that the 2 rolls would last me 2 months. After about 3 weeks (including 2 grocery shopping trips) of not seeing toilet paper on the shelves, the hoarding seemed to die down to a level where I could see stock coming in and toilet rolls were being shelved in the evening. I recall seeing a twenty-something years old woman smugly (ie, eyes half-closed, lips wide expression) ask the attendant stocking the shelves "'scuse me, can I get a roll for myself". It was not like she could not reach and grab a packet from the already stacked shelf. She needed an attendant to hand her one. I felt her entitlement attitude was all for show. I bought myself an 8-pack of toilet rolls to take home and store. The last roll of toilet paper (from last year's purchase) was about to be used. I kept the packet handy until I started to use the new toilet rolls by May. Since then, I purchased another 8-pack of toilet rolls in March of this year. I still have not used all my toilet rolls from last year's purchase. It amazes me that people need to use up more than 1 roll of toilet paper per month per person. Back when I lived with my parents, it was a matter of going through one roll of toilet paper per week (seeing that we were a family of 5). Why do people need to go through more than 5 toilet rolls per month (for a family of 5) and have to get 48 rolls of toilet paper? Are they buying up toilet paper for a school? I could understand if the family has people who have bowel conditions where they need to go to the toilet 5 times a day. But, why do people need to purchase so much toilet paper when a lockdown does not necessarily mean that there is going to be no access to shopping? |

While I have to firstly admit that some of those attempting to flee Victoria before the lockdown might have had a genuine reason to leave the State the majority of them were just trying to "escape" so they wouldn't have to abide by the lockdown rules that everyone left behind has to do. We've seen this selfish side of people time and time again with previous lockdowns around Australia during the past 12 months - "I don't want to stay here and be locked down, even if its just for 3 or 5 or 7 days and I don't care if I take Covid with me and spread it interstate". Same applies to the majority of these "stranded Aussies" overseas who have pulled out their Australian passports that have no doubt been gathering dust in a drawer somewhere so they can now attempt to flee "home" to the safe haven of Australia to ride out the rest of the pandemic with no concern whatsoever that they might cause a major Covid outbreak here. A large percentage of people these days only think about themselves as we've seen with the toilet paper panic buying every time there's a lockdown announced anywhere in Australia. As someone wrote in our West Australian newspaper after our last 3 day lockdown over the ANZAC Day long weekend at the end of April: "We're all in this together? If you saw the queues at the supermarkets just after the lockdown was announced it would have been obvious that it was all about looking after number one" |

Aged care worker among Victoria's

Acting premier James Merlino said the staff member worked at Arcare in Maidstone. "I want to thank the worker for doing the right thing and getting tested immediately upon getting symptoms, and helping get the facility as safe as possible," he said. In total, two of today's five cases are close contacts in quarantine, one is linked to an exposure site and two are under investigation. The new figures were released after 45,000 tests over the previous 24 hours. The new figures come after only five new cases were revealed on Saturday. But despite the positive signs amidst a record testing blitz, there remain hundreds of exposure sites visited by positive COVID cases that have contact tracers on edge. Some of the latest exposure sites include several stores at Chadstone Shopping Centre and LaTrobe University. A positive case visited the popular retail spot on Wednesday, with a restaurant they dined at now classified a Tier One location. The infected person dined at Yokozuna between 11.30am and 12pm on May 26. The other stores visited by the case include Optus, Bakers Delight and Woolworths which are all now listed as Tier Two sites. |

The sight of aged people is a reminder of death (memento mori) and inevitable biological vulnerability. This unwillingness to accept these manifests in feelings of hostility and discriminatory acts towards the elderly |

My gerontophobia stems from the time I did a course in aged care. I completed the assessment course. The course co-ordinator asked if I wanted to keep on for the practical side working in an aged care facility. I said "yes". I did one... single... eight... hour... day, where I got up at 5 in the morning and was at a facility at 6 to start a practical. By 3 pm, I was ready to fall asleep, even when I did not do much work. I called the training centre and said no more would I be attending the prac. They awarded me for the written assessment that I could use towards other hospital-related employment.
But as for the aged care workers, I was absolutely rocked by how much effort they put into their jobs. They have to be on the go pretty much all the time and they have to document everything they do. The residents there are very demanding. Some stories I have heard is that the residents can be unreasonable. I am ashamed to admit it, but I feel that sometimes people can be a burden on society when they are no longer capable of looking after themselves. The Paralympics that I watch after seeing the Olympics is the only thing that brings me back to a sane position on the subject. But, the elderly do sometimes unshackle my ageist thought process. Even Dad (66 years of age) is starting to peeve me off. |

You are wrong on both sentences. I did one 8-hour day at an aged care facility and was generally impressed by most of the residents there. However, I had grown up to not respect the elderly (those over 60) because they had this entitlement attitude thinking that they deserve respect because they are elderly. There was this 100 years old woman (she turned 100 years old the next day) that was very active and could look after herself without much assistance. Then there was this 70-something year old woman who was diabetic, obese, and was about ready to lose her leg from her poor life choices. She had a demanding attitude that the AIN said was enough to make her want to quit. And like it or not, ltyc, I work in industries that have made more money for Australia in business taxes in one year than what I have ever collected in my life. Even if I would be one-fortieth responsible for helping those businesses make the money to pay those taxes. Of course, his youth saved him from the effects of his smoking, drinking and whatever else he liked. But, even when he quit smoking and cut back on his drinking, he still held bad hygiene practices that haunt him today. A girlfriend of mine broke up with me because she could not stand the way that a non-smoking, rarely drinking man would not go any further and just try to look after himself better. I just get the feeling that Dad does not feel like living much beyond 70 years of age. And the fact that Dad likes to think himself a hit with the ladies, that is enough to throw anyone off liking him. When Dad passes away, I would be sure my sister would be devastated. Mum would be grieving for years. I would be sad. But, Dad has not built up a good reputation in the community that would mean a lot of people would miss him. And I do not know what I would get in the will. But, whatever I get will not pay off the years of Dad's narcissism or obliviousness of him as the dirty old man in the community. |

The last time we had the virus in aged care
over 800 people died and we were in lockdown for 112 days. Are we doomed? https://www.news.com.au/national/victoria/news/victoria-records-5-new-cases-on-sunday-as-snap-lockdown-continues/news-story/735750e8ac02901366961126c89d2182 State leaders are ‘extremely concerned’ about a new mystery case of Covid-19. One of Victoria’s five new infections is a worker in an aged care facility in Melbourne’s west, health officials revealed on Sunday. Health authorities are now scrambling to determine how the female health care worker at Arcare Maidstone, who lives in Altona, caught the virus. She was asymptomatic and wore a mask when she worked shifts on Wednesday and Thursday at the aged care home. “The aged care positive case is an extreme concern to us,” testing commander Jeroen Weimar told reporters on Sunday. “It is our most vulnerable and sensitive setting.” Acting Premier James Merlino on Sunday said the worker got a test as soon as she showed symptoms. “I want to thank the worker for doing the right thing and getting tested immediately upon getting symptoms,” he said. The worker had also received the first dose of the vaccine, and more than half of the residents have been vaccinated. Out of the 76 residents at the centre, 53 had consented to the coronavirus vaccine, Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt said on Sunday. He urged people in aged care or their families to consent to receiving the jab. The Party Games newsletter Get your political briefing from news.com.au's political editor Samantha Maiden. “It can save your life,” Mr Hunt told reporters. However only a third of aged care workers at the centre had received their vaccine. The aged care centre has gone into strict lockdown with residents confined to their rooms amid fears the virus may spread. Contact tracing is underway to determine how the worker caught the virus. “This is the first mystery case we have seen in this particular outbreak,” coronavirus testing commander Mr Weimar said. “We have identified the infectious period as potentially being Wednesday and Thursday of this week, the 26 and 27 of May, and of course we have now put in place our full response. “We are doing on-site testing, of course.” Victoria recorded five new local cases of Covid-19 on the third day of the state’s lockdown, including the aged care staffer. |

Okay, back on topic.....work this one out Bobby...
A guy walks in to a Melbourne bar - he’s just back from India, does 14 days quarantine in Adelaide, passes that and wanders the streets of Adelaide then flys to Melbourne AND THEN the virus that was on him all that time suddenly appears and starts spreading, and causes the complete lockdown of 6.5 million people for at least 7 days. No one else in Adelaide quarantine or working there gets it, no one else in Adelaide anywhere gets it and no one else on the plane gets it. But he gets to his home in Melbourne and SHAZAM, it takes off and shuts the whole state down. And all this happens days before the State of Emergency runs out in Victoria. And the reason for a lockdown, according to the govt, is that not enough people are “jabbed”. But they get to extend the State of Emergency because of this sudden and mysterious outbreak that only happened AFTER the guy left quarantine and flew to Melbourne and mixed amongst his family. Funny how no one is hospitalised or dead with this “deadly Indian variant”. Funny how it’s not thousands affected when it’s supposed to be so .... catchy. Miraculous isn’t it? |

Infected "security guards" travelling far and wide around Perth and the metropolitan area yet they didn't manage to infect a single other person (as far as all the testing told us, at least). We have another long weekend coming up this weekend... WA Day (formerly Foundation Day). I'm almost expecting another hotel quarantine 'breach' before the end of this week so we'll have another 3 day lockdown over the long weekend like we did over the ANZAC Day weekend. Something doesn't add up with all this Covid business. I don't usually take notice of conspiracy theories but even I'm becoming increasingly suspicious about all this. I saw an image on someone's Twitter page the other day - a figure with a raised arm and the caption read: "Hands up if you're tired of this Covid s**t". Someone should sell t-shirts with that on, they'd make a fortune. Especially in Victoria. |

i reckon he caught it in Melbourne and the key is that he is a member of the Indian community , not that he returned from India with it. The government is doing all it can to suppress the information that the virus is spread much more by certain ethnic communities. It is these communities every single time which are responsible for the spread of the virus here.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9635245/Covid-19-Australia-Fears-two-aged-care-home-residents-Melbourne-caught-coronavirus.html
FOUR Melbourne nursing homes are exposed to Covid with another worker testing positive and two aged care residents feared infected as the city faces new coronavirus disaster and longer lockdown An aged care worker who tested positive is Victoria's new mystery Covid case The home's local MP Bill Shorten said two residents have since tested positive There are thought to be among five new cases reported on Monday morning Four nursing homes are now exposed with another worker testing positive Popular Coles and Kmart stores in Melbourne's north declared exposure sites Acting Premier James Merlino has not ruled out extending stay-at-home orders. Victoria's coronavirus outbreak is on the brink of spiralling out of control and lockdown being extended after four aged care homes were exposed to the virus. A resident at the Arcare facility in Maidstone, Melbourne caught the virus after an infected staffer worked while infectious, with another worker also testing positive on Monday. The staff member, despite working with vulnerable people and being eligible for the jabs since February, was not vaccinated and the resident has only had their first jab. An escalating situation in aged care could see Victoria facing an extended lockdown as its cluster swelled to 45 on Monday, with 279 exposure sites. The elderly resident and second Arcare staffer are thought to be among the five new cases reported on Monday, as well as a separate care home worker at BlueCross Western Gardens. A further two aged care homes, Royal Freemans Coppin Centre and Royal Freemasons Footscray, have also been exposed as its workers are close contacts of the Arcare staffer. Health bosses are holding their breath waiting for more test results from the nursing homes, with all four in lockdown and residents confined to their rooms. Of Australia's 910 Covid-19 deaths since the pandemic began, three-quarters have been linked to aged care. The Arcare employee, who is in her 50s, was infectious for two days while she worked at the facility before testing positive on Saturday. Contact tracers have been scrambling work out how she caught the virus because she has no known links to Victoria's other infections, which are all linked to one another. She is a close contact of the Western Gardens worker who has since tested positive, as well as the two Royal Freemasons workers, whose tests are still being processed. University of South Australia chair of epidemiology Adrian Esterman said the next 48 hours will be critical in determining whether vulnerable residents were at risk, and whether the state's seven-day lockdown will be extended. |

Either the tester failed to pick up that the man was infected. Or the man picked up the virus in Melbourne and passed it on. For all I know, maybe the man's clothing was infected by another person in India. He packed his clothes in a suitcase. Took the flight to Australia uninfected. Did the quarantine. Then the man finally got around to wearing the clothing after a two week period and the virus survived long enough to infect the man.

in the words of australias most accomplished immunologist and creator of the HPV vax
"this is a highly infectious respiratory virus. it is highly likely that many many people will catch it. we should get vaccinated as quickly as possible and wear masks and socially distance to prevent the hospital system from being over run" that does NOT mean lockdown and attempted erradication, because those goals are not possible. covid is with us forever, we have to accept it like every other disease and live with it. not lock people up and go thru "rinse and repeat' lockdowns in perpetuity. that is insane and unrealistic. the vaccine program has gone thru the nusring homes already, so why become anxious over something that is now beyond your control. roll out those vaccines and then close the book on this OCD covid hysteria |

The vaccines will help lessen the symptoms of those who are exposed to the coronavirus. But vaccinated old age people will still get some kind of symptoms that might hasten their deaths if they catch the virus. The vaccine would curb the death toll somewhat for that demographic. Being from regional Central Queensland, I have only heard of 10 cases of covid 19 in my area. To think that there have been 1600+ cases of covid in Queensland is enough to make me wonder that the disease is only a metropolitan issue -- where migrants get off planes and spread it around. All arrival points in Australia need to upgrade their testing practices and make sure the rest of the country can go about their daily lives without a new disease that should have literally been stopped at the international borders. |

I await the headlines saying that there is an Australian variant of the coronavirus. The rest of the developed world will be on the verge of eradicating the virus. But an outbreak of cases from a largely unvaccinated Australia will mean international borders will be shut to overseas travel by Australians.

The Indian strain in Melbourne is more likely to be vaccine resistant. I must say that I do not want to be responsible for giving anyone bad advice. The scientific evidence is that If you are vaccinated it does give you over 95% protection from dying from Covid-19. Therefore – take the vaccine if you think you have a chance of getting Covid-19. I still don’t know what to do. I think I would be very brave to get the vax with so many negative stories on social media. |

I don't believe the authorities have any idea just how far Covid has spread around Victoria and the whole of Australia.
Or, maybe they do but don't want to say to avoid panic amongst the population and cause even more economic disruption on top of what we've already had. We must have/have had a lot more cases than the 'official' numbers suggest, I'm betting its been that way since the virus arrived in Australia nearly 18 months ago. Problem is, a lot of undocumented cases were probably asymptomatic or just thought they had the common cold or flu and didn't get tested for Covid. Nothing definite at this stage, of course. Just rumours I've read on Twitter this morning but the consensus is if the lockdown does extend over the long weekend it will probably the final 'nail in the coffin' for a lot of small businesses who are already suffering (again) due to the latest lockdown and its extension. ![]() |

Hundreds of police to enforce COVID rules Liz Hobday AAP Published: Friday, 4 June 2021 1:48 pm AEST Victoria Police will have 450 officers patrolling the state's roads to make sure Melbourne residents comply with COVID restrictions. The rules have been eased in regional Victoria and police say there is a risk people will be tempted to break the rules over the weekend and head to country Victoria. "Please don't bother, we have an enormous amount of police dedicated to this operation, to ensure that people do comply with the chief health officer's directions," Deputy Commissioner Rick Nugent told reporters on Friday. He said the state's tourist hotspots would be a particular focus. Officers will use automated numberplate recognition systems to identify motorists from Melbourne driving in regional Victoria, and booze buses will also be deployed in a 24/7 operation on major roads. About 200 police began patrolling the main arterials and back roads out of Melbourne at midnight on Thursday. So far they have fined a 27 year old man from Little River, who was caught travelling to Geelong with a blood alcohol level of 0.266. He will be charged with drink driving and fined $1652 for breaching COVID directions. Since the latest lockdown rules were imposed, police have fined people for failing to wear masks, and for travelling further than the allowable limit. Commissioner Nugent also warned people thinking of protesting against the restrictions over the weekend against doing so. "Please don't bother, don't turn up, you're going to be arrested and you will put people at risk," he said. Police say the operation will continue as long as Victoria's strict COVID rules remain in place. Acting Premier James Merlino has already said Melburnians will not be able to travel to regional Victoria for the June 12-14 Queen's Birthday long weekend. |

I see what Bobby meant, if all our police are at road junctions to stop or check legit traffic going interstate, it could be more tempting for burglary opportunity and not getting caught …whilst most police are away and pre-occupied. So between the number plate detection cameras, and booze buses pulling you over to check in place instead, it should be a good deterrent, especially with more people being stuck at home. But people are still going out in the droves to supermarkets and cake shops, take away food places, walks, and medical appointments. I went for a medical appointment and the roads were still chokkas with traffic! And finding a car park at super market car parking is a pain more during lockdown than at any other time! |

Victoria extends state of emergency powers enabling lockdowns until July 1 The Victorian government has extended its power to enforce lockdowns, more than a year after the measure was originally brought in for a month. Frances Vinall NCA NewsWire June 5, 20214:51pm The Victorian government has extended its state of emergency, the legal mechanism allowing it to take extraordinary measures to fight Covid-19 including lockdowns. Health Minister Health Martin Foley extended the state of emergency last week to July 1. He said it was extended “due to the ongoing serious risk to public health throughout Victoria”. He consulted with chief health officer Brett Sutton and Emergency Management Commissioner Andrew Crisp before signing off on the order, he said. The state of emergency has been in place in Victoria for over a year. It first came into effect on March 16, 2020, and has been extended 17 times. I did read reports here n there how people had excess drinking problems during lockdown. Fatty foods, alcohol, restrictions on outdoor activities, closed gyms, weight gain, all lead to a lack lustre willingness to bother after 2 months then going into 4 months lockdown. No get up and go. No job to go to. No meandering around shops just browsing yet walking and moving about for several hours. No seeing family members (which really hurts) … FaceTime, phone calls isn’t the same as being with them and hugging, or cooking for them and being around the dining table together. So yeah, physical health and mental health truly is affected. But it’s all for our own good yeah? Being under “house arrest” as Bobby aptly puts it. Everyone I talk to on fb, telephone, text, are saying … here we effn go again.. it’s become so ridiculous and starting to say it’s BS. Sort of a revolt in more and more minds are starting? The scramble to pinpoint the source of several mystery cases of Covid in Melbourne is still underway, with concerns surrounding the highly infectious Delta strain remaining. Health officials are working to identify the source of 69 infections linked to the outbreak, with two in the West Melbourne cluster announced yesterday having visited known exposure sites. The couple – one of whom shopped frequently at Epping Plaza and Craigieburn Central – are both in isolation, but while the visit to the shopping centres is a common factor with earlier cases, the shopping times don’t match up, leaving officials scratching their heads. Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton said he did consider shutting down those two shopping centres but “people need to shop.” Meanwhile, the Delta strain which has ripped through India has so far been found in seven people from two families in Victoria, including three children. The first family to present with the variant travelled from Jervis Bay in NSW. Victoria recorded five new locally acquired cases in total on Saturday, with three close contacts of existing cases. Two new locally acquired cases have been recorded today. |

A "testing blitz" is underway at the Arcare Aged Care facility in Maidstone after a resident and a nurse tested positive to COVID-19 on Sunday. "Arcare is saddened to advise that we have two new cases of COVID-19 at our Maidstone residence," a statement from the facility read. "One is a 79-year-old resident who lives in close proximity to the first two residents diagnosed. "The second is an agency registered nurse who last worked at the residence yesterday." The resident, who had both doses of the Pfizer vaccine, is asymptomatic but will be transferred to hospital for public health reasons, coordinated by the Department of Health. The employee had received the first dose of the vaccine and is also asymptomatic. All team members who worked at Arcare on Saturday are isolating and will get a COVID-19 test. |

Bobby, 'the killer Indian Virus' now called 'Delta' virus I think, doesn't encourage you to go and get the vaccination?
I've had my vaccination (the first) a month ago, and although I felt a bit crappy for a few days after and tender on the vaccination spot, I'd sooner take the chance which is very low risk, than contract the virus which, I understand, is a horrible way to depart this life......or if you are lucky enough to recover, are left with all sorts of health problems for a very long time after. :-/ |

Well, the Great Escapists had tunnels named "Tom, Dick & Harry". But I doubt the names gave the detainees a reason to stick around. Naming coronavirus stains after the Greek alphabet is just an exercise in political correctness. People are hysterical enough to want to get vaccinated, no matter what they call the virus.

I think the heads of the medical organisations would be the ones responsible for renaming the virus variant strains. Virologists probably agree, seeing that their job is professional. I would be more eager to test samples for variations of coronavirus if they called the variants "coronavirus/covid19 delta strain" rather than "covid19 Indian variant".

I will wait until August before I start considering getting the vaccination. I may have to go get tested for coronavirus (for the first time), as I feel like I am getting a different type of sickness. I was planning to have my first Covid vaccine (AstraZeneca) this Thursday when I have to go to my GP for another 3 monthly Lucrin injection but when I went there on Saturday to have the dressing replaced on my throat (from the thyroid surgery I had 2 weeks ago) they told me I wouldn't be able to have it then.
I didn't ask why but I'm assuming they've run out of vaccine for now. When I took my 91 year old aunt to her GP (at the same medical practice I go to) for her first Covid vaccine 3 weeks ago the place was packed - and it looked like most people were there for the Covid 'jab' (they were all filling in the same 3 page 'Covid disclaimer' document I was helping my aunt fill out). |

June 8, 2021. There have been just two local COVID-19 cases recorded in Victoria, lifting hopes lockdown will end on Thursday. Positive case visited Melbourne vaccine hub By Adam Vidler11:38 The vaccination hub at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (Jeff Shed) was designated a Tier 3 exposure site after a positive COVID-19 case tried to get a jab yesterday. The person was directed to leave and return to isolation immediately. Authorities said the situation was "well controlled" and there was no wider risk to the public. About 5500 people are still in isolation as primary close contacts of confirmed COVID-19 cases, with about 350 people released yesterday. https://www.9news.com.au/national/melbourne-delta-coronavirus-outbreak-linked-to-returned-traveller/2527a7a7-cf06-4294-9d25-b061e395e7fe The Delta variant of COVID-19 circulating in Melbourne has been genomically linked to a returned traveller in hotel quarantine. Acting Premier James Merlino confirmed public health teams had matched the strain to a man who arrived in Melbourne from Sri Lanka on May 8 and tested positive on the same day. Genomic sequencing returned an "identical match" to the second of the two families at the centre of the West Melbourne outbreak, who have ties to North Melbourne Primary School. "I can confirm today that we have now found a match between a returned traveller who entered hotel quarantine in Melbourne on May 8 and this cluster," Mr Merlino said. |

Funny how the number of daily cases has dropped just in time for the planned end of the current lockdown. I wonder if that's the true number (1)? Because, as some of us have said a few times over the past year - there's the definite probability that there are more actual cases than those reported (you can't test every single person in Victoria every single day). I also wonder if the protests now by business owners as reported in Bobby's post has something to do with it? Hmm... Ben Graham June 10, 202112:31pm Victoria’s plans to lift lockdown tonight will still go ahead, with strict mask rules in place, despite the emergence of four new local cases with no identifiable source. Acting Premier James Merlino said the state will continue to take “cautious next steps” from 11:59pm tonight, by easing restrictions, adding that the state is “moving ahead but we are on high alert”. As an added precaution, he said masks will now still be mandatory at all times while outdoors. “We’ve always said that, when we could ease restrictions, based on that advice, we would,” he said. “We also said yesterday – and we’ve been saying every single day – this is not over yet and the risks of this virus will be a factor in our lives in the long term and in the short term so in the short, that means we are moving ahead but we are on high alert and the public health advice is very, very clear.” |

Andrews government secretly negotiating permanent pandemic laws to replace state of emergency By Michael Fowler June 13, 2021 — 5.00am The Andrews government is secretly negotiating with three crossbenchers to introduce specific pandemic laws that would permanently replace controversial state of emergency powers and significantly change the way the state manages COVID-19 this year. Demands made by the powerful crossbenchers in return for their support include a requirement that police record the racial appearance of people they stop or fine for breaching health directions, and that the government is forced to be more transparent with the information and trigger points behind interventions such as lockdowns. Disadvantaged Victorians would also be exempted or pay reduced fines if found contravening restrictions. State of emergency laws have been active in Victoria since last March as the legal instrument that allows authorities to enforce a range of public health commands, including lockdowns, mandatory mask wearing and 14-day quarantine. The Age can reveal the government is designing the new laws to cover all future pandemics, not just the coronavirus pandemic. It is intended that they will be in place by December, when the current state of emergency provisions expire, and a first draft is expected within the next two months. The pandemic legislation will be permanently shaped by the demands of three upper-house crossbenchers: Animal Justice Party MP Andy Meddick, Reason Party MP Fiona Patten and Greens leader Samantha Ratnam. These 3 low-life cross bencher scum have sold out Victorians to Marxist DictatorDan |
