In the sense that you sort of wonder how a evolutionary biologist goes down this path of oddness. Then yes interesting. But it some of comes back to the poiint that very smart people are exceptionally good at rationalising dumb decisions.

Oh, you won't even listen to it.

What has BW ever said he believes which you'd consider dumb?

And did you check out the quals of his guest, Pierre Kory?

No I havent listened to it yet, but this seems to be one of those contrarian things where people don't accept the current status and then look for all sorts of ways to oppose it.

https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2777389 For instance in this RCT they find in mild COVID ivermectin had no effect. My thing with the ivermectin is that if it was so effective, we'd be getting a lot of trials with strong evidence that it works not just for mild but severe COVID. THat doesn't seem to be the case.

I agree that maybe there needs to be bigger trials, but we shouldnt prescribe it.

Got first jab today.

His guest is cited in Wikipedia for the advocacy of unproven treatments of COVID-19

Can you guess what that treatment is?

Heres a good metanalysis of ivermectin  COVID-19. Basically the authors found

The pooled estimate suggested a statistically significant reduction in all-cause mortality when ivermectin was added to usual therapy with OR of 0.53 (P= 0.04).

But the issue here was weak evidence and publication bias

Not really. Its been stated for severe COVID presumably to keep the airway inflammation down and thus reduce the need for mechanical ventilation.

So his wiki entry makes him sound like a whackjob who advocated using something like bleach while he was merely ahead of the pack recommending corticosteroids.

He has a lot to say on the politics of Covid and how front line
clinicians are being reduced to technicians. Very interesting.

Like Bill Gates acting the doctor on covid-19 and many other diseases where he has his hand in the vaccine ........????

Would be a good example.

Yes.

A little long !

It is a discussion about the value of applying individual, good commonsense, to [solve or ameliorate] any crisis.

[bureaucracies have no skill or real utility, in these areas.   once one is established, a bureaucracy's main function/objective, soon becomes to learn [above all else] how to make itself indispensable to those its 'existence' supposedly 'serves'.    once it is established, a bureaucracy soon becomes a corrupt and incompetent, self-serving beast.

Q.
In the comedy series,     Yes Minister, and Yes Prime Minister,     ...who was it, that Sir Humphrey Appleby actually served ? ]

@ 18 min so far, into the pod.

.

A bureaucrat is said to oppose any change, except that which increases his own power.

Asherley, they'd probably help.

Won't cure it, but could certainly relieve the symptoms.

I'm on 'em myself at present, so have a good idea of
what they can (and can't) do.
