Title: China to reach 1 billion vax doses today

China's about to administer its billionth coronavirus shot.

Yes, you read that right.

Updated 1615 GMT (0015 HKT) June 18, 2021

Within days, China will reach a staggering 1 billion doses in its Covid-19 vaccination drive -- a scale and speed unrivaled by any other country in the world.
As of Wednesday, China had administered more than 945 million doses -- three times the number delivered in the United States, and almost 40% of the 2.5 billion shots given globally.

The number is all the more remarkable given its rollout had a slow start. China only reached its first million doses on March 27 -- two weeks behind the US. But the pace picked up significantly in May, with more than 500 million shots given over the past month, according to data from China's National Health Commission.

On Tuesday alone, it administered more than 20 million doses. At that rate, it is likely to exceed 1 billion doses this weekend.

The Chinese Sinovac is different  -   it doesn't use mRNA.

Is it a safer vaccine?

It's true. I heard this from people I know in china but I very much doubt it will help them if there are outbreaks !!

But the mRNA technology in our vaccines is very experimental.
The Chinese vax uses the old tried and true methods.

Not as dangerous as the unknown effects of mRNA.

yes best to avoid any of them. According to a dude from India I spoke to yesterday the vaccines aren't that effective and they suspect they are causing an outbreak of black fungus :(

What a load of schitt. I will believe it when the Chinese start publishing the data on how many people they have confirmed with the coronavirus in China.

I believe them.
They made their own vaccine and got it out there fast.

Why the hell didn't we make an ordinary vaccine as we
normally would have for any other virus and give it to Australians?
Why did we have to delay everything by 6 to 8 months
and get carried away with the hysteria about the "wonderful" new mRNA technology?

Analogy -

Do you spend a difficult 20 minutes pumping it up with a slow hand pump
or do you wait 5 hours for the RACV to turn up and help you?

At least you know it's extremely unlikely side effects, what do you know about Sinovac?

Quote:
AZD1222 comes out of decades of research on adenovirus-based vaccines. In July, the first one was approved for general use — a vaccine for Ebola, made by Johnson & Johnson. Advanced clinical trials are underway for other diseases, including H.I.V. and Zika.

edit: I don't understand why you fear the mRNA vaccines. Basically for a short period of time your own cells provide the foreign protein needed to cause an immune response.

Quote:
What would you say to people who are afraid that mRNA vaccines alter your DNA?
It’s simply not true. In fact, it’s the other way around. DNA makes RNA. The mRNA in the COVID-19 vaccines only goes into a certain part of the cell — the outer part known as the cytoplasm. It doesn’t go into the cell’s nucleus, the part of the cell where the DNA lives. And, mRNA doesn’t last very long because its job is to give the information to the cell — a blueprint for how to make a protein — and then it goes away.

edit2: This is even how a part of how viruses themselves kinda work.

AstraZeneca is a  scary vaccine. It's only a few (5) days Taiwan started vaccination program. 49 Taiwaneses died after AZ vaccinated.

Taiwan got 1.24 million does AstraZeneca from Japan about a week ago.

As a wumao, your anger is not directed at the efficacy or risk of vaccines.

If it were you would be more concerned about the inefficacy (and the false-security that it evokes) of Chinese vaccines: Sinovac and Sinopharm. Both have proven to have the lowest efficacy rates of all current vaccines.

What angers you is that Taiwan is receiving vaccines from its democratic partners (i.e. Japan and the U.S.).

What Chinese regime belligerence has revealed to the regime is the cohesive nature of democracies in times like these.

Wolk wanker 'diplomacy' has damaged China's relationship with the world and, ultimately, it will not protect the regime's culpability in covering up the virus outbreak (having leaked from the WIV).

No, you are talking politics (or should I say peddling propaganda)... All wumao posts on these matters are politically motivated, particularly where Taiwan is concerned.

What's your opinion on the poor efficacy rate of Chinese vaccines and (worse) the insistence that they be taken before entering China regardless of the entrant's other vaccines used?

If they die oh well they were old and may have died anyway.

But if people in their 20's 30's 40's start dying that cannot be so easily washed away.

Old people died. The Gov can say those people have other diseases. Young healthy people died, the gov can't point to scapegoat.

Taiwan today news said it so far has 60 people died after AZ vaccinated. The young one is age 42.

(correction: just read the article again 49 people died)

It is scary -
as of mid May  210 people died in Australia after getting it.
Of course the Govt. said they were old and would have died anyway.  :-[/quote]

Thats why AstraZeneca is for over 60's.

Really wumao? 60 people? The youngest was 42? The only reference I've found from Taiwan is 49 deaths (link to AstraZeneca to be determined) and all were elderly and had comorbidities.

But you'll be 'relieved' to read that the U.S has shipped 2.5 million shots of Moderna to Taiwan.

So, it looks like the Taiwanese will be safer than their regime-controlled counterparts in China who are forced to take the low-efficacy Chinese-made vaccines.

So, using the links provided.

Seven women and five men aged 42 to 97 had experienced serious adverse events suspected to be related to an AstraZeneca vaccination. They were not reported to have died.

The only reference to '60' were the number of men who had contracted the virus with 67 women also recorded having contracted the virus (i.e. nothing to do with vaccine shots).

[olist]"case numbers have been going down which shows that the outbreak is under control. But he says the public should not let its guard down as the virus could easily spread if people are not careful.

Of the 127 new local cases announced on Saturday, 60 were men and 67 were women.

What a load of schitt.
I will believe it when the Chinese start publishing the data on how many people they have confirmed with the coronavirus in China.

I believe them.
They made their own vaccine and got it out there fast.

I would not know what the vaccine rollout is in China. But, if the vaccine in China is similar to Australia's vaccine program, the doses would be 2 for every 1 person. 1 billion doses would cover 500 million fully vaccinated people. Or 1 billion people for one dosage each. Assuming the claim of a minimum of 500 million people in China being vaccinated at least once, I find that far-fetched that China would be able to get that extensive program in place in a country where people have varying degrees of needs or accessibility. Most Chinese earn less than Australians on the dole. The costs China has imposed on itself with the vaccine rollout would mean that most Chinese are still to be vaccinated even for the first time.

Turns  out the Sino vaccines the Chinese were "giving away" to other  countries is almost useless at preventing infection, Indonesia is regretting it now after using this vaccine , lots of deaths of vaccinated people there.

And Bahrain, the UAE, the Seychelles and parts of South America...

This is what happens when a totalitarian regime tries to play 'western'.

BTW the Chinese regime gives nothing away... Even charities are not encouraged in China because the regime's line of 'the state will provide all' is perceived as being undermined if a charity is required in any part of China.

Whatever the regime 'gives away' comes at a price.

We have the same problem there to an unwholesome degree but I guess at least it is open enough that we can criticise and use FoI to see what is happening. Can you imagine the CCP having FoI laws?

The Chinese regime is not communist or capitalist in sensibility...

It is a power-obsessed totalitarian regime, 'with Chinese characteristics', of course...

Which makes it insecure in a way that Stalinism and National Socialism was not... They obviously had a grasp on western sensibility (even if they were perverted).

The Chinese regime is ultra-perverted trying to imitate, then prevail over, a cultural sensibility it doesn't or can never hope to understand.

I do not in anyway support the way the CCP works. In fact I have an offside DiL because of my views.

My point was recognising we have some of the same problem with political self interest but at least we are allowed to investigate it, acknowledge it and condemn it.

Absolutely right.

Of course we have the same problems (we're all human together)... and their resolution can only be achieved by open dialogue - for and against ideas of solving those problems.

It's complicated and sophisticated, but that's what makes the west more capable of solving those problems - the people must step up to have the aptitude for appetite for solving problems, which requires humility by accession to ideas from others that are better than our own.

That and defending a system that denies ultimate and indefinite power to any individual or party.
