America has a west and an east coast. Holland has a north and a south(ish) coast. Poland? On the Baltic. Germany has the Baltic coast and the Kiel Ship Canal from the Baltic to the North Sea. So Denmark has a sea on two sides.
Israel has the Med on one side and the Dead Sea on the other! Saudi is a peninsula, Asia Minor—does SAUDI have a coast to coast Rout 66? LOTS of countries have two coasts BUT which has a Route 66 from coast to coast? There is the US, a Pacific coast, an Atlantic coast and a Gulf coast for good measure. Does the US have a coast to coast Rout 66?? |

In the US Civil War forces under Brig Gen US Grant captured the forts of Henry and Donelson. Confederate forces had to abandon large parts of Tennessee, so much that Nashville was the first Confederate state capital city to fall to the Union forces.
To try to recoup their fortunes the “secesh” concentrated a huge force at Corinth, Mississippi. They pulled infantry and field artillery from al places in the South. They stripped New Orleans of troops. The Union navy under Flag Officer Farragut sailed (steamed?) past two big masonry forts on the very lowest part of the MIss. river, made it past, sailed into “Nawlins” (New Orleans) and shortly afterwards captured the capital of Lousiana, Baton Rouge. Oh, the mass of Confederate troops were defeated at the Battle of Shiloh, the most sanguinary (bloody) battle on American soil to that date (worse battles followed.) So—which country has a coast to coast Route 66? |
