Title: zero alcohol beer Post by Jim Lahey on Oct 7th, 2021 at 5:40pm
I started in another thread, given I don't (cant) drink but would like to brew some beer etc has anyone ever made beer and then removed the alcohol? I know its pointless to some people.

You naughty member! Now the (tiresome) GMods have to move this thread to Food (or they did with my first thread on brewing but they got discouraged.)
Heating a liquid to remove the alcohol is not easy, takes quite some time to get to 0.000001%abv. Personally, I think Coopers boil some hops in water, sieve out the hops and let the hot liquid run through a heap of uncrushed malt. That will give it some bitterness, hop flavor and malt flavor. But I don’t really know. My interest in non-alcoholic beer ceased the day I turned 18. |

Thanks JM, I don't think it needs to be any less than like 0.5% i might try it. I don't really mind not drinking its more i'd like to try making it. what about ginger beer? much the same? |

Ginger beer is non-alcoholic. “Brewed soft drink” as it says on the stubbies of Bundaberg Ginger Beer just means it was boiled: I guess sugar water was boiled with ginger root, the liquid sieved off, cooled {other crap done with it} and bottled and preserved somehow. No ferment, no alcohol.

I was under the impression that ginger beer could be brewed as with beer? maybe not. |

Tea and coffee are nonalcoholic yet they are “brewed beverages.”
Brewing means boiling is all. If you have a gingery sugar syrup no doubt some friendly fungi would “alcoholise” it for you. |

Okay so fermentation is the process rather than brewing I should be referring to. sugar+yeast+heat = alcohol? |

Not much heat, room temperature will do it.
Maybe a teaspoon of yeast nutrient. |

Heat + liquid = brewing
Sugary liquid + yeast = alcohol/alcoholic ferment |

:o :o :o WTF is wrong with you? :D :D Although I do agree that there is zero purpose to non alcoholic beer. Just drink cordial if you are so inclined |
