When I'm in the water I'm just as cautious with seals as sharks. I've had a big seal pop up right in front of my when I've been prone paddling, lucky the thing didn't bite my face off. They're not cool animals!

Not mindless, sort of, but shark feeding behaviour is often triggered by sensory stimuli rather than using their brain power, such as biting boats and motors that probably give off electrical impulses. No doubt they have a certain level of intelligence, but I think a lot of their behaviour is instinctual.

Something to remember, they're one of the oldest species on the planet. They don't have to be the smartest, just doing the right thing and maybe instinct over intillegence in their environment has advantages.
