False premise.

Dishwashers on $90 an hour as staff shortages smash hospitality sector

Dishwashers are earning up to $90 an hour in one of Sydney’s top restaurants, as labour shortages in the hospitality industry force some businesses to cut opening hours.

Rockpool Bar & Grill is paying dishwashers $90 an hour on Friday and Saturday nights “and we still can’t get them”, said executive chef Corey Costelloe.

Immigration has been affected by the Chinese pandemic, but here are the pre-pandemic figures, and they are not Zero.

For the year ending 30 June 2020:

There were over 7.6 million migrants living in Australia
29.8% of Australia's population were born overseas
Australia's population increased by 194,400 people due to net overseas migration.

No doubt, after borders open, immigration will ramp up to the above levels again.

The problem is the open slather policy of the ALP-Greens. They know that in the long term poverty stricken immigrants will increase their voter base. Its one of the sleaziest aspects of the Left. Flood the country with UN sanctioned welfare recipients.

There's no pay rises because the money is going overseas to pay interest on the massive debt - reduce the debt, then you'll get a pay rise

Bullsh1t.

Quote:
How much is the Australian government actually in debt?
When the Commonwealth government wants to spend more money than it raises in tax revenue, it instructs the Treasury to issue debt in the form of bonds and notes, or Australian Government Securities (AGS). “The government borrows money by issuing bonds – these are financial instruments. People ‘lend’ money by buying bonds from the government. The bondholder is then entitled to repayment,” explains Mark Humphrey-Jenner, Associate Professor in Finance at UNSW Business School. “They can sell the bond in the secondary market. Thus, the initial buyer need not be the same as the current holder,” he says.

Any government debt is then typically measured as a percentage of gross domestic product (GDP); it is measured not in absolute dollar terms but in comparison to its creditworthiness and ability to repay debts. For example, the 2021-2022 Budget predicts the Commonwealth government’s gross debt for 2020-21 is $829 billion (or 40.2 per cent of GDP). By 30 June 2022, gross debt will rise to $963 billion (or 45.1 per cent of GDP) and then increase to $1.2 billion (50 per cent of GDP) by 30 June 2025.

While gross debt gives some indication of Australia’s economic position, the number that is more often reported is net debt, which is the sum of all financial liabilities (gross debt) of a government minus its financial assets. The latest Budget paper shows Australia’s net debt is expected to reach $729 billion (34.2 per cent of GDP) by 30 June 2022 before peaking at $981 billion (40.9 per cent of GDP) in 2024–25. The government also predicts net debt will fall to 37 per cent of GDP by 2032. Australia’s net debt has been steadily rising since before COVID-19, following the global financial crisis, and is not expected to fall below a third of national GDP in the next decade.

That's not entirely true but it has a lot to do with it.

By the way ....do you know who owns much of our debt?

2/3 of our debt is held by non-resident investors namely US, UK, Belgium, Japan and of course China.

These are the countries who we pay interest to.

We need to get China off that list ASAP.

This is not unique to Australia. Staff shortages in these industries are happening in other countries: the Great Resignation.

These workers are no longer willing to be paid minimum wages to be treated like crap, so they're quitting to work elsewhere.

To fix these staff shortages and worker retention, the following measures will help:
* Offer more money.
* Offer better employment conditions.
* Stop stealing wages from workers by making them work for free.
* Introduce and enforce a zero tolerance policy towards any mistreatment of staff by the customers: evict all abusive customers immediately, and call the cops if they refuse to leave.

since the 1980s successive governments (both labor and Liberal) have been eroding employees rights and removing any bargaining power from them.

Thats why wages growth is now non existent
Thats why wage theft is rampant
Thats why the gig economy has all the flexibility for employers but none for the employees

A simple answer to a simple question.

Because the growing numbers of dole bludgers needs to be thinned.

The next step is to restrict the dole to a maximum of 12 months.
That way, it's work or starve.
Wonderful idea.

Hope it's implemented sooner rather than later.

How the fkk can you be so ignorant about how the economy works even though it's been explained to you many times?

THERE ARE FAR MORE UNEMPLOYED WORKERS THAN VACANT JOBS.
THIS IS A DELIBERATE PART OF THE ECONOMY.

If your fantasy ever came to pass, the inevitable class action lawsuit from unemployed workers against employers, the Reserve Bank and the government would be devastating. The damages alone would run to hundreds of billions.

Yep! And a great way to kickstart that process is to get a lot of lazy unemployed people back into work by criminalising their internet access for at least 6 months AND making them work for 6 months in order to earn their internet access back.

The multiplier spin off effect of such a reform
would be amazing.

It would simultaneously resolve a lot of other issues like say eradicating the OzPol cyber junkie phenomenon as well as positively impacting the sedentary driven obesity inducing health issues of said cyber junkies.

The thing about living adaptively in a society, Frank, is you become aware that the best way doesn't need to be the only way.

If you accept this, you may not spend what years remain to you with perpetual sand in your lady garden.

Just goes to show how stupid the right and it's followers are.

It's repeatedly been clearly demonstrated the best way to stimulate the economy is if people have money to spend.

So get the unemployed into paying jobs, then.  Importing third worlder NESBies is not going to do that.

Yep! And a great way to kickstart that process is to get a lot of lazy unemployed people back into work by criminalising their internet access for at least 6 months AND making them work for 6 months in order to earn their internet access back.

The multiplier spin off effect of such a reform would be amazing.

It would simultaneously resolve a lot of other issues like say eradicating the OzPol cyber junkie phenomenon as well as positively impacting the sedentary driven obesity inducing health issues of said cyber junkies.

Zero immigration and a massive demand for employees but no pay rises ?

Why ?

Duh! To kickstart a bankrupt economy you dill!

What a stupid question. I seriously don't know why some people are allowed to vote!

And what is the best way for people to have money to spend, mother?   Increased welfare payments or paying jobs?  (Careful now, trick question for sociology grads like you.)

The thing about living adaptively in a society, Frank, is you become aware that the best way doesn't need to be the only way.

If you accept this, you may not spend what years remain to you with perpetual sand in your lady garden.

Meaningless drivel.
If getting a paying job by working age people is merely the best way but not the only way - what is a goodish way then for such people to have money to spend?

Labor or Liberal?
Both socialist - and actually communist parties.

We have a one party communist state.
They both allowed unrestricted mass immigration of
3rd world trash to come here.
They both printed massive amounts money
and disguised it as Govt. bonds.
They both tax the hell out of everyone.
Their policies only vary in some fine print.

Question time is a farce where they pretend to hate each other.
After the show is over they all go to the bar and have a beer together
and laugh about it.

We have been sucked in.
