He's respected, because he kept his 'cultural character' while interacting with the Media, rather than 'act' like an African-American because he was black too.
Of all the Aboriginal Actors - only he could play an 'Aboriginal'. The rest became 'american-media-rised'. |

I really liked '10 Canoes', he did the talking part I think.
Started to watch 'Charlies Country' last night. Plays a great character. Storm Boy, The Tracker. |

Thank you for strting this thread, Sprint. I'm glad to see his recent passing commemorated on here.
Please continue with 'Charlie's Country'. I found it absolutely breath-taking. I've loved him since 'Storm Boy'. An absolute Australian treasure. |

Sadly 'traditional' (pre-1500) Aboriginal culture is a pristine isolated culture, but flawed in that it only existed as an 'isolated' culture who's Dreaming, did not include the rest of the world.
Denying the existence of the rest of the world like how the world made the British who they were come 1788 and all the genocides, invasions, slavery, etc they had to go through and how they still have to go through a lot more. Only then, when they look outside their isolated Dreaming, they may come to understand why the British did what they did and they might finally 'forgive' and no longer turn away to forget. |
