Not being an American yourself it's easy why you can't see your obvious error.....

ALL Americans know, or should have been taught in primary school (grade school) as I was, that a law is only as good as the ability to enforce it.......ergo......without the Second Amendment, The People's Right to Keep & Bear Arms, they wouldn't be able to force their government to abide by all the other laws, or replace their government...the servants of the People, as a last resort, by force if necessary......in order to secure their American Rights.....their Freedoms & Liberties.......from being dismissed by an authoritarian & tyrannical government.

Well, if the People in any particular State were to decide that all the People should have the Right to Constitutional Carry, they would no longer need to go hat in hand to any government for a permit in order to carry a concealed firearm to be used specifically for self-defense....to preserve their own lives, the lives of their loved ones, their friends & fellow citizens, & also to protect their property.......until then, present day State gun law remains in effect.

Without the first amendment there is nothing for the second to protect. However the second is no longer about that as it was redefined in 2008. The militia needed to rectify the things you say was removed from the amendment an favor of allowing school shootings with no reasonable gun control and such.

Panther, from a few years of conversing with this bunch it has become my opinion most are comforted to be subservient to government.  As children we were taught our Rights come from our creator, not man and they only end where the Rights of others begin. It bothers them terribly we are not stratified at birth like they believe they are. The only crime I see where I live is dishonest salespeople trying to sell people what benefits them but not the public! I don't live or spend much time in Democrat strongholds so violent crime is rare! My observation is that I couldn't tell you the last time I know of criminal activity here. The days when the Class has the Ice Cream Party cancelled because little Johnny can't behave are behind us. If you can't behave in a civilized manner it is on you, I don't accept restrictions on my life because someone else can't control themselves!

I believe I will buy an FN 502 Tactical when they become available locally. No permission needed!

Every sane adult owns at least one gun.
But in those countries, shootings are rare.

Additionally in those countries it's mandatory to do several years conscripted service.

I guess when you are taught to use guns correctly and are taught respect.
Gun crimes are rare.
Conscription or military service should be mandatory for all dole bludgers who have been on the dole for more than 12 months.

My argument is the argument of Freedom, the Right of the individual to experience Freedom through exercising Liberty. Without the Right to defend what is yours, you can never experience true Freedom, nor enjoy the Liberty Freedom offers.

Americans will always have the Right to Self-Defense, without being granted the Right from a government, because Americans are Sovereign individuals who will use anything they wish, including firearms, not because a government says they can, because the government only exists to serve the people, & has no say what they people can do......that is true Liberty, & it's through that Liberty they experience Freedom.

Death or Life in that pursuit is a decision every man makes for himself, not a decision that government makes for him.

You seem to forget that in 2008 the part of the constitution that this belief relies upon was ruled to be a meaningless prefatory clause. The supreme court basically ruled that this is just dribble and that the second part of the 2nd amendment the operative clause is the bit with the meat.

i.e the bit that has meaning and effect.

You seem to want to have it both ways (have your cake and eat it too). Diminishing the prefatory clause is the bit that moves the second part to apply to anyone and everyone having an unreasonable right to be armed and making any sensible control impossible.

These court decisions are only possible (2008) if the first section has no value.  Read literally guns are protected for militia members and anyone else can go whistle if control is needed, almost certainly what the amendment was originally meant to do.

Now, lets say you succeeded above, how do you convince law-abiding gun owners, who never have used their firearms illegally, & probably never will, that turning in their firearms would make them safer?

The figure you quoted of 120 Million owners is probably from polling data, & it sounds low....usually collected via phone calling.

In my gun club back Stateside we used to talk about that a lot, & most of my club's members wouldn't give those pollsters the correct time of day.....period.

I would be willing to bet that a lot of gun owners, myself included, wouldn't want to tell anyone that calls in that they had firearms....not knowing who they actually were, besides what tell you they claim to be......could be the government---you never tell the government the truth about anything unless your under oath, or it could be someone looking to set you up for a break-in/robbery.

There's no law in lying to a pollster, or even the government for that matter, unless you are sworn in & under oath, in the actual presence of a judge of the court, & even then you have your 5th Amendment Rights to refuse to answer...... ;)

A more accurate number would probably somewhere around 150 Million, but the government will tell you, they flat out don't know because there's no accurate records anywhere in America regarding who owns what, & where......& that's a good thing......it's no business of theirs what firearms anybody owns...Fvrcck the government.....especially the Feds!

We went far past sensible laws a long time ago. Since then we have seen laws intended to make sheep out of citizens but do nothing about injury to individuals. Currently we see a justifiable reluctance by Police to do their job for fear of prosecution for small or imagined misbehavior. We see the truly dangerous criminal released with little or no bail by Soros financed prosecutors. Continuing on with the theater of the absurd, Liberals are now wanting to assign "life coaches" to these repeat offenders. You need to get past this attitude that a criminal in the process of committing a violent crime has more Rights then the victims. Self defense is a human right whether your government recognizes it or not. When government insists on continuing to pass more laws and ignore the ones already available chances are they just want more restrictions on the honest people and have no intention of stopping any kind of crime!

In the news yesterday was a video of a 7 year old child caught stealing a bag of chips from a store. The Police put him in the back of a patrol car and took him home to tell his Father what he had done. No charges were ever considered and the child was not restrained. Our so called news media has tried to make something racist about this but so far it has gotten very little negative reaction from the Public. That little boy may grow up to be a Policeman rather then a thug or at least an honest citizen who learned his lesson early in life!

<sarcasm>Nice quote there by James Madison </sarcasm>. A member of the Revolutionary War, where he was fighting for his country's independence with muskets. Not like those easy to purchase assault rifles or Glock pistols that seem commonplace among American shooters who go on attacks. Madison died in 1836. It was just a coincidence that the decision happened to line up with what the NRA and republicans wanted and it was convenient that it dismissed the first statement of the second amendment which had a valid literal meaning when the amendment was created but now as a prefatory clause dismisses that meaning as not existing. Yes in the 1790's a Militia was a real thing that did require to be armed for national security purposes. This is not the case in 2008 so it was removed by the supreme court which effective changed the meaning of the second.

There is also the dissenting view that to bear arms is a term referencing military usage and not private use.

So people can be allowed to keep and bare arms for the purpose of belonging to the militia. Is what they say the amendment is about but they then say that it is not limited to that which changes the meaning of the amendment.

The second amendment now means that even though the reason for the amendment is clearly specified the amendment really means something very different to what the words in the amendment actually say.

This point was under contention with the dissenting view that the term Bear arms is a military term normally not associated with personal gun ownership this would be consistent with the words in the second amendment and not the revised version of 2008.

There is nothing in this amendment saying that sensible gun laws are not to be allowed in fact it would make no sense to just have open slather on anyone having access.

That shows how little you know. Anyone wanting to be proficient needs to practice with a .22 pistol and rifle as well as centerfire firearms. Lower recoil and lower cost encourages more practice.  Over 40,000 gun laws passed against an inanimate object and the liberals haven't been able to admit it is really the criminals illegal behavior.
