You have to ASK yourself
HOW do these people SLEEP at night ?

Sydney woman pays $25 for rapid antigen test
after chemist sells multipack individually

Just a couple of weeks ago, Anne-Marie Mannil could buy a five-pack rapid antigen test (RAT) kit from her local pharmacy in north-west Sydney for $50.

This week, she paid $25 for a single test in a zip-lock bag.

"As the stocks are becoming more sparse, some retailers are taking advantage of that situation," she said.

"And divvying-up the packs, that they obviously get from the wholesalers, into single packs, into resealable plastic bags not too dissimilar to a drug dealer, it’s unscrupulous gouging."

She ended up paying $100 for four tests.

You get what you pay for in 'self-indulgent' Australia.
One of the most over-inflated nations on the planet for years.
Surprised we got them so cheap in the first place.

I saw on TV that those rapid tests are only 20% effective
at picking up a positive case so
they miss out on 4 out of 5 cases compared to a PCR test.

In other words - don't waste your money.

Have to admit this is a stroke of 'genius' by the Federal and State governments.

Close down testing places and then rely on people doing their own testing by buying Rapid Antigen Test kits.

Problem is, no-one can buy them anywhere and if by some miracle they do find some they're being sold for rip off prices.

As I said - its a stroke of 'genius' because all this means is that testing numbers will drop dramatically and so will the number of daily cases being reported, even if they're really still increasing. The redefining of 'close contacts' last week also reduces the number of people being tested.

Donald Trump would be proud of what's happening here.

Must also have something to do with all this "personal responsibility" BS we've been hearing about lately from Scott Morrison and Dominic Perrottet. Someone commented the other day that if everything is now going to be about personal responsibility then why do we need governments? Good question.

I also notice today that the Queensland Premier is proudly announcing the purchase of 18 million test kits.

https://twitter.com/AnnastaciaMP/status/1477801774283059200

Interesting that Annastacia (actually her social media team) hasn't 'retweeted' the daily Queensland Covid case numbers from Queensland Health for several days now. I wonder why? (hint: they're going up and up each day - 4,249 new cases today. Just like South Australia, the ACT and Tasmania).

Well, the 18 million test kits are a step in the right direction but I have to wonder how much all this is going to end up costing compared with the cost of not allowing Covid to get into Australia and get loose to begin with?

From The Chaser:

Morrison confused why poor don’t simply test themselves with cake

Quote:
Frequent Flyer and part time Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, has today taken a break from his well earned holiday after a heavy year of dodging responsibility, to question his butler about why the poor keep asking him for things.

“One is most perplexed. Don’t these peasants know that tax dollars aren’t meant for their unwashed hands?” a confused Morrison asked while aboard his $3 million a year private jet. “Why, if they want to afford tests so badly, shouldn’t they just sell one of their many investment properties? That’s what I would do.”

“I simply do not understand why they are making such a fuss,” he continued. “I already gave Gerry Harvey all the tests and $22 million. Surely by now that has trickled down to the plebs?”

There's more than a grain of truth in all this.

Your maiden aunt commented.

Not everything is personal responsibility but some things are. Taking care of yourself is such a thing.  No government can make you sensible, you have to decide some things for yourself. If you anx your 90 year olc maiden aunt think that's BS then you are too far gone on the dependency scale.

Look at the places doing this.

On Tuesday afternoon, a convenience store in Sydney’s Canterbury, Ready To Go, was offering a pack of two RATs for $65 on Uber Eats – with the item showing as “popular” – and EzyMart Cronulla was selling a two-pack for $55.

Crown Square Convenience Store in Waterloo was advertising COVID-19 antigen tests for $39.99 for two

Order a meal and throw in a couple of test kits now from Uber Eats.

Only $65 for 2 tests, home delivered. What a bargain!  ::)

Nothing like a good old pandemic to bring out the greed in some people.

Just like we saw with toilet paper and other essentials during lockdowns.

The gouging is absolutely disgusting, and the pharmacies doing it should be forever boycotted.

However, some pharmacies do the right thing and some customers can be real pricks.

I was in a chemist yesterday and witnessed the workers being abused by some old prick who wasn't able to buy a box of masks.

They were still waiting on back-orders of the masks to arrive, and were therefore being responsible with the very limited supply they had.

A box of 10 is usually $35, but they had opened the boxes and were selling them for $3.50 each with a maximum of two masks per customer.

Sensible, responsible, and fair.

However, this old prick thought it was his birthright to buy a full box and he wasn't leaving until they sold him one.

He abused several staff members, and made a general nuisance of himself.

Staff did the right thing and ignored him once the abuse started, and he eventually left empty handed.

Stupid old prick.

A certain cohort of people wants only to hear doom and gloom stories about Covid. People who report a short mild illness get Twitter mobbed.

There is no nuance in the reporting.
Yes, it can kill perfectly healthy young people but the vast majority of people who get seriously ill or die are old and unhealthy.

We should all now be vaccinated, and it should be left to people to adjust their lives to meet their risk profile. My dad is very unwell and will shelter in place until the peak passes and he doesn't begrudge on little bit people who can be out and about.

By the end of the European winter, “pretty much everyone in Germany will have been vaccinated, recovered or died”, German Health Minister Jens Spahn has warned.
That was in November and he was talking about Delta.

"What [they are] very good at is picking up whether you're in the infectious phase. That means the time you're actually likely to be shedding the virus and actually spreading it to other people," he said.

For that reason, Dr Moy said, it made sense to use RATs before going to large gatherings, or every few days for those entering areas with vulnerable people, such as aged care and health settings.

"If it's negative, you're probably in the clear for at least the next few hours or … maybe the next few days," he said.

https://www.tga.gov.au/covid-19-test-kits-included-artg-legal-supply-australia

Dear God!

Look at the never ending list of approved suppliers ffs!

Germany
USA
UK
China <--- ????

Where is Australia?

This would have been an awesome opportunity to make money.

1. Employ Australians to manufacture these tests. Unemployment rate drops.

2.  The resultant supply of jobs and the resultant PAYE taxes would have helped our bankrupt government's financial predicament.

3. Money paid out to workers would have been spent in Australia to buy goods and services thus supporting Australia's economy PLUS more tax opportunities there for government through GST.

Why is so much $$$ leaking out of our nation's wallet??

This is not how you run any budget be it a family or business one. You MUST internalise everything you can so as to keep money from leaking. Otherwise it's like a water leak....you'll be hit with a huge bill!

COVID rapid antigen tests can return false negatives, but experts say they're accurate when it counts the most

Thanks for that link.

It's a hilarious read ie its full of contradictions.

Here's just 1.

The advantage of this [rapid antigen] test is that it's really convenient and you get the results really quickly, but its disadvantage is it's got a much higher false negative rate," Dr Moy said.

"That means you may get a test result, which comes back negative … but, in fact, you actually have COVID.

It's kinda like this (as this has happened to me I'll use this example).

1. I take an in home pregnancy test (these are not accurate).

2. The result comes up as a false negative.

3. I then go out for dinner and drink a glass of wine.

4. I then go to a doctor who gives me a blood test and that consultation reveals I'm 2 months pregnant.

5. I then spend the rest of my pregnancy worried (and guilty) for having passed on something to my child.

These at home tests are a waste of money.

Even articles can't come up with much of a positive message. If they do they then contradict that message.

No!

The clear pathway forward :

1. Pro active approach (well we are talking health and safety and risk minimisation).

2. Blood tests <--- why is there no blood test for this yet? Australia should be investing in this technology ---> reap the benefits in amazing profits for Australia WHILE keeping Australians safe! Health + Economy is sorted with 1 stone.

3. PCR tests <---- invest in this technology for the same reason. Keep the business and profits HERE in Australia! Plus help Australians stay safe!
