He really was a great actor.

Hollywood trailblazer Sidney Poitier dead at 94

Sidney Poitier, who broke through racial barriers as the first black winner of the best actor Oscar for his role in Lilies of the Field and inspired a generation during the civil rights movement, has died at age 94, an official from the Bahamian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Friday.

It is a great movie, re-watched it a few months ago. I first saw him in The Heat of the Night, made the same year as Sir. Virgil Tibbs. Electrifying.

Watching him I thought he was not just a great actor but a great man. Or that he wasn't acting, he was just himself in the situations film scripts put him into.
