Title: The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Post by greggerypeccary on Feb 7th, 2022 at 7:32pm I'm all for Australia becoming a republic. I don't really like monarchies. However, I like this woman and I think she should be applauded: |

A typical example of how a hypocrite contradicts himself.

I'm applauding the person, not the title. Do you not understand the difference? I think Lizzie is an amazing person. This milestone should be recognised, and celebrated. |

Liz has done a great job but I doubt her successors
are up to the task. |

I thought this platinum jubilee would have been the time for our gracious Queen to get off the throne and hang up her crown, Big ears needs to have a go at being the one to reign over us with his Queen Camilla by his side before they both die of old age.

She'll probably leave us this year. Been around all my life...

Yeah - can't see Chuck being a big success or popular. Wills might be, but Harry was more fun... |

Your error is in separating the signifier from what it signifies and trying to make it out to be two different things. Nora is picking up on that with a very sharp nose. You, being a lowly, literal minded, stuck in the mud pleb, cannot imagine what is meant by a 'symbolic life'. The person of the monarch is relevent to the monarchy only to the readers like you of Hello!, New Idea, New Woman, etc. |

Diana could have been Queen had she played her cards right

I agree. I am no fan of the monarchy as an institution relevant to Australia, however the Queen has done an amazing job and continues to work at an age when most people are long retired, with no prospect of ever really retiring at all. |

She was a loon. Quite unfit for the role of Queen. She was only good at breeding. ::) ::) |

Truthful though. Many of those who knew her, remarked after her death that she was a loon. She didn't deserve to die but her not wearing a seatbelt was her own fault... ::) ::) |

You got that right! The Windsors, as with all aristocrats, are a dynastic family. The Spencers are direct descendants of the Stuart, Charles II. The Queen's English side of the Stuart family stops at Charles I and then diverges to German aristocracy. William (having been born into the Windsor and Stuart-descent line) is now more directly related to all the English/Scottish royal houses (except the Tudors) than even his father and grandmother. |

I guess this topic should be in the Federal politics section.
Isn't she your head of state? or you just pretend to live in a sovereign British colony? ;D |

Unlike the Chinese head of state, the difference being she doesn't order the disappearance of Australian citizens or ordering them bashed to death. |
