Imports: top dollar. The ruble just tanked, so what are the oligarchs going to buy, if they can get their hands on their cash?

You can't even buy McDonalds or Starbucks in Russia now. They've closed. Buy an airfare? Aeroflot's grounded. Where are you going to go?

Doesn't sound like much of a win to me. Putin can't even get his hands on all those foreign reserves he's been squirrelling away for a rainy day. Not even the Swiss will hand over Russian cash.

I'd say Putin and Russia has lost, but that's just me.

If the war was over by tomorrow and Russia started exporting oil to make up for lost sales, the price of oil will come down. And in 6 months, petrol companies will pass the savings on to motorists.

China survived 30+ years of isolation.

All that will be achieved is the creation of perpetual conflict.

In the meantime usual US allies, the EU, UK, and France are severely diminished while the USA has built up a list of antagonists.

The world is less safe than it was before the Ukraine war. The world is one stupid act of missile strike or one cannon shot away from a WW3 shooting war.
