Go fly a kite.

Fly it into the clouds, if you are lucky it will make it into the stars.

Lets go fly  a kite.

Just look at all these galaxies in the latest JWST image
in only a tiny spot in the sky - like a grain of sand at arms distance.
You'll realise how small you are and how large the universe is.
Your problems must be small too.
You're are only on one planet in one galaxy.

wim hof, the iceman, had his wife die and it put him into a deep depression.
he became suicidal.

and he thought, i am going to die anyway so i am going to push my physical body and see just what it can take.

he began swimming under the ice and soon was regularly breaking his own record for ice swims.
he developed a deep breathing and meditation system and just kept pushing.

he climbed mt everest in a pair of sandals and a pair of shorts with no shirt.

people often with terminal cancers started to try the wim hof method.

this extreme rebooting of physiology seemed to reboot immune systems and some actually had cancers disappear (i dont like these stories but some were written up in medical journals so the guy was keen to work with scientists).

one reseaercher got a cohort to follow the wim hof method and then injected them with bacterial toxins to monitor their temperature and pulse.

they had no reaction.

training the body hard had made them much stronger in every way. they could control their stress hormones and adrenaline,

LOLS suggestion to eat chocolate is ,unfortunately common but completely wrong.

we live in a world of constant stress with raised cortisol.
this makes us crave carbs, hence the obesity epidemic.
cortisol turns off testosterone and dopamine.

hence the 1/2 ing of male sperm counts and the doubling of anxiety and depression.

sugar is part of the problem.

if you are stressed or depressed, start with 1 minute cold immersions every night before bed and build up.

if you trick your brain into realising it can handle stress, the daily refrigerator hum of stress goes away.

soon you will be doing 10 minutes with ice cubes in the bath.

love it when its hard.
make it hard.

chocolate , booze, anti depressants from the doc, feeling self pity is the easy route.

mother nature despises the easy route and she will take you out

Yes.  The immune system can be stimulated, which has been proven scientifically:

Immunotherapy is a treatment for some types of cancer. It uses the immune system
to find and kill cancer cells. Scientists have produced different chemicals that are part
of the immune response, and can make different types of immunotherapies such as:

•  Monoclonal antibodies (MABs) which recognise and attack certain proteins on the surface of cancer cells,

•  Vaccines to assist the immune system to recognise and attack cancer,

•  Cytokines  to help to boost the immune system,

•  CAR T-cell therapy (also called adoptive cell transfer) to change the genes in the white blood cells.

I still remain cynical that immersion in ice, and climbing unclothed to mountainous,
low oxygen heights can boost the immune system.  Hof may well have an extremely
high threshold of pain too, which could elevate his resistance to the freezing response.

One medical reviewer says:  "Although there is evidence that the Wim Hof method has
some benefits, a lot more research is needed to prove that it’s anything but controlled
hyperventilation mixed with a somewhat masochistic ice bath".

This is where these stories get spurious. Wouldn't that breach the researchers' code of ethics?

Good responses gentleman and I concur

But we have to look at the fact that obesity itself multiplies risk for many cancers
Breast ovarian and bowel to start with

Cancer cells would tend to be dysfunctional cells and would probably be the first cells to die when they were stressed

Many of the historic traditions have fasting as an aspect of health

When you fast your body has to start using its own resources
Maybe it starts chewing up the Deadwood first

Maybe if you are cold low in oxygen and Hungary
You are stressing the cancer cells more than
You are stressing your normal cells

It's pure speculation of course

All I can say is that after an ice bath I feel a lot more mentally Sharp
After a sloppy feed of biscuits and doughnuts
I would imagine my brain would be also sloppy
I wouldn't know I don't eat those things :D

Whatever it is, only a very small percentage of the population would want to live a Wim Hof life.

Absolutely

Most people follow the path of least resistance

If for example a girl has her boyfriend leave her
It's totally understandable that her friends comfort her with chocolate
Or alcohol

But is that really helping

Would she be better off doing some life coaching
A martial art
And hitting the gym

Most people follow the path of least resistance and unfortunately it leads to failure

I get that most people have got themselves into such a pickle they feel like they are drowning
And that chocolate or alcohol or telling them they are a victim
Could be seen as a compassionate ACT
Like pulling them into a nice warm lifeboat

In the end
And this is the harsh truth

It's actually better to learn how to swim
It's actually better when you feel like you are drowning
To be able to calm your senses
And apply the skills you have learnt

That requires effort and is the opposite of the path of least resistance
That's why the first thing you need to do when you bounce out of bed
Is to recognise that the obstacle is the way

That's actually the title of an excellent book which you should read

Yes. I'd bet 'most' would translate into 95+ %.

The Wim Hof ideas have helped me a lot.

One easily achievable aspect of his ways is to finish off your shower with only the cold water for a minute.
Turn the hot water off.
Control your breathing. Do not gasp or pant.

It improves your resilience and exercises your determination.
Also, gives your lovely wife something to laugh with you about.

My daughter told me about Win eons ago so I sort of  tried his breathing techniques… there’s also another type of breathing technique but I forgot what it’s called… I do remover one type of breathing at night to help sleep and it works. Taking big deep breathe in slowly …and then slowly releasing it. Do it a few times. Before I know it I’m in slumberland!

The path of least resistance is often the path of not being an idiot.

Why would a girl need a martial art because she was dumped? LOL!!!

wanting to give someone chocalate is part of the feminine nurturing response to someone they see as a "distressed infant"

your friend is crying and fussing and unhappy and so you want to soothe them.

nothing wrong with that but just remember

you ARE seeing them as an infant.

treating people as infants  when they are 3 months old or 99 and bed ridden is absolutely appropriate.

treating an upset 30 yo as an infant is not.

it will keep them stuck.

it is how governments treat people now because governments have sort of become a nanny state and citizens like being fussed over when they are in pain (ie all the time).

If we eat too late and not had time to digest doesn’t help with sleeping… and if we have coffee in the evening doesn’t help either.
