Went out for dinner last night.  My youngest son ran into a friend from years and years ago.  Calvin says 'this is my brother' (brother is trans, still would pass as female).  Guy says 'Nice, what name do you prefer nowadays'.  The end.  No drama, no tears

This isn't about trans folks, it's about the fact that the right wing is made up of old people terrified of change.  Right wing people are always left behind because they WANT to be.  They hate the modern world with it's respect for others, respect for science, and rejection of bigotry.  That's not how they grew up, and they won't change now!!!

you can judge a generation with metrics from another generation anyway.
A lot of kids think people over, say 55, are senile, grumpy, ignorant old pricks.
Conversely, a lot of oldies see kids as irresponsible, loudmouthed, self-absorbed
street thugs.

One major difference from when I was a kid to today's youth is the increasing
lack of adherence to, and respect for the laws or regulations that maintain a
viable society.  If you look at gang violence in the capital city streets, it's always
teenagers brawling and killing each other.  You'll never see gangs of 60-year-olds
having a brawl in a McDonald's car park.

The youngest of the young people are going to be completely different to my generation
They will really emerge as a cybernetic organism
Where their phone may well become their best friend

Their phone will understand them better than any friend or parent could ever understand them
Their phone will understand their emotional state
Their phone will be able to stimulate them better than any real-world experience could ever stimulate them

It's debatable whether this is progress or not

Personally I prefer not to be a battery in the matrix
But it will soon be possible to just plugin and live in whatever sort of virtual world you wish to design for yourself

The largest tree on the planet
The general Sherman
Is about 2 hours drive from LA

50% of people over the age of 50 have been to see it if they live in LA
For those aged 20
50% of people have never heard of it
And the number of people aged 20 who have seen it
Is under 1%

I suppose you can just put on your VR goggles and visit it and the experience is indistinguishable

Is that really better for young people

The time you have spent nurturing this relationship could have been spent developing a deep personal friendship in the real world

If you look at a platform like Twitter or Facebook
This is where people are spending a lot of time developing intimate relationships

It's great for the owners of the platform

But given your limited time on earth
I would ask you if the opportunity cost is worth it
