On 11 July I received an email from cod’s daughter. It contained this:

Mum had mentioned that you and her were friends and kept in touch, over the years and mum often spoke about you and your mum, so I thought you should know, mum sadly passed away on Thursday evening 7 July 2022. Mum timed her passing on dads  anniversary of 33 years of his passing and all but close to the time. We have been blessed to have mum with us for an extra almost 12 months (two weeks short) and just shy of her 86th birthday.

So cods “too stroppy to die” fended off death for nearly a year and died on the date her husband died 33 years ago.



I will miss my email conversations with cods. We talked about a lot of things, including the use of Sars to prewash really stained clothes to fairly esoteric things. We didn’t talk politics much.

No probs Carl. She was a very different person away from these boards—I think she got too partisan, too heated. She did some good things in real life, made some real positive difference to some lives.

Oh that’s sad news. Was hoping to see Cods make a comeback to this forum. Her input was always clever and thought provoking. I know she missed her husband whom died way too soon.

Well, that's a bummer. I had wondered why I hadn't seen her posting for a while.

She and I go back to the old Yahoo message board days in the late 2000s.

We often disagreed, but I always had a - sometimes grudging - respect
for her., and the way she'd stick to her guns.

Sorry to hear.

Cods was an absolute institution of this place. I think all of us who knew her will long remember her. It's certainly not the same without her.

RIP.

No problem. cods talked about our email correspondence, especially concerns and funny bits about caring for my old Mum, to her family which is why the daughter emailed me.
