Nope... too "bookish" for my tastes.  Anyway, philosophy is largely bullshit,
only perpetuated for academic tenure.

And as for Sartre, I'd never trust a bloke who couldn't look me in the eye LOL.

The ancient Romans didn't think so. Stoicism is hot now and has more adherents than ever in its long history.

I don't really care what people thought about things a couple of millennia ago.
They were poorly educated by 21st century standards, and a lot of their so-called
philosophy was just bullshit—but which has now become fashionable for academics
to spout from their ivory towers.

Philosophy is often wrong, or indistinguishable from being wrong.

"Except for a patina of twenty-first century modernity, in the form of logic and
language, philosophy is exactly the same now as it ever was; it has made no
progress whatsoever. We philosophers wrestle with the exact same problems
the Pre-Socratics wrestled with [so we must concede] philosophy’s inability to
solve any philosophical problem, ever.

De gustibus non est disputandum

Needless to say, that itself is a philosophical statement.
Philosophy is NOT merely an academic field. It is that, too, but a lot more beyond that.
Everybody does it all the time. It is the comprehension of world views, one's own and that of others, current and past.

A lot of academic philosophy is indeed bs. But you cannot have a mental life without non-academic philosophy.

Yes, he was a charlatan but very influential. His influence is still with us in much of pwogwessive, social justice warrior activism. He was the prototype of the 'philosophe engagé'. No demo, no petition was complete without him.

Here's another visually engaging lady philosopher.

I find philosophy practical and useful. Religion, not so much.

If you have to ask if you are sexy?

You are not.

But that does not mean you never can be sexy.

It is all about self belief, human sexy sassafras.

Philosophy is to be studied, not for the sake of any definite answers to its questions, since no definite answers can, as a rule, be known to be true, but rather for the sake of the questions themselves; because these questions enlarge our conception of what is possible, enrich our intellectual imagination, and diminish the dogmatic assurance which closes the mind against speculation; but above all because, through the greatness of the universe which philosophy contemplates, the mind also is rendered great, and becomes capable of that union with the universe which constitutes its highest good.

You sound like Lord Russell's grandparents and family. They also though that philosophy can be summed up in two questions (slightly more sophisticated and witty than your own clodhopper's way of putting it):

What is matter? Never Mind.
What is mind? No matter.
