https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEj2wtrMWa8 Full speech. We stand, we fight and we will win. Because we are united. Ukraine, America and the entire free world - address by Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a joint meeting of the US Congress 22 December 2022 - 07:39 Dear Americans! In all states, cities and communities. All those who value freedom and justice. Who cherish it as strongly, as we, Ukrainians, in all our cities, in each and every family. I hope my words of respect and gratitude resonate in each American heart! Madam Vice President, I thank you for your efforts in helping Ukraine! Madam Speaker, you bravely visited Ukraine during the full-fledged war, thank you very much! It is a great honor, a great privilege to be here! Dear members of the Congress – representatives of both parties – who also visited Kyiv! Esteemed Congressmen and Senators – from both parties – who will visit Ukraine, I’m sure, in the future! Dear representatives of diaspora – present in this chamber and spread across the country! Dear journalists! It's a great honor for me to be at the U.S. Congress and speak to you and all Americans! Against all odds and doom and gloom scenarios, Ukraine did not fall. Ukraine is alive and kicking. And it gives me good reason to share with you our first joint victory – we defeated Russia in the battle for minds of the world. We have no fear. Nor should anyone in the world have it. Ukrainians gained this victory – and it gives us courage, which inspires the entire world. Americans gained this victory – and that's why you have succeeded in uniting the global community to protect freedom and international law. Europeans gained this victory – and that's why Europe is now stronger and more independent than ever. The Russian tyranny has lost control over us and it will never influence our minds again. Yet, we have to do whatever it takes to ensure that countries of the Global South also gain such victory. I know one more thing – the Russians will stand a chance to be free only when they defeat the Kremlin in their minds. Yet, the battle continues! And we have to defeat the Kremlin on the battlefield. This battle is not only for the territory – for this or another part of Europe. This battle is not only for life, freedom and security of Ukrainians or any other nation, which Russia attempts to conquer. This struggle will define – in what world our children and grandchildren will live and then – their children and grandchildren. It will define whether it will be a democracy – for Ukrainians and for Americans – for all. This battle cannot be frozen or postponed. It cannot be ignored hoping that the ocean or something else will provide a protection. From the United States to China, from Europe to Latin America, and from Africa to Australia – the world is too interconnected and interdependent to allow someone to stay aside – and at the same time – to feel safe when such a battle continues. Our two nations are Allies in this battle. And next year will be a turning point. The point, when Ukrainian courage and American resolve must guarantee the future of our common freedom. The freedom of people, who stand for their values. |
Title: Re: Zelenskyy speech to Congress Post by Bobby. on Dec 22nd, 2022 at 9:19pm Ladies and Gentlemen! Americans! Yesterday – before coming here to Washington DC – I was at the frontline, in our Bakhmut. In our stronghold in the East of Ukraine – in the Donbas. The Russian military and mercenaries have been attacking Bakhmut non-stop since May. They have been attacking it day and night. But Bakhmut stands. Last year seventy thousand people lived there in Bakhmut and now only few civilians stay. Every inch of that land is soaked in blood. Roaring guns sound every hour. Trenches in the Donbas change hands several times a day in fierce combat and even hand fighting. But the Ukrainian Donbas stands. Russians use everything they have against Bakhmut and our other beautiful cities. The occupiers have a significant advantage in artillery. They have an advantage in ammunition. They have much more missiles and planes than we ever had. But our Defense Forces stand. And we all are proud of them. The Russian tactic is primitive. They burn down and destroy everything they see. They sent thugs to the frontlines. They sent convicts to the war... They threw everything against us – similar to the other tyranny, which in the Battle of the Bulge threw everything it had against the free world. Just like the brave American soldiers, which held their lines and fought back Hitler’s forces during the Christmas of 1944, brave Ukrainian soldiers are doing the same to Putin’s forces this Christmas. Ukraine holds its lines and will never surrender! So, here is the frontline – the tyranny, which has no lack of cruelty – against the lives of free people. And your support is crucial – not just to stand in such fights, but to get to the turning point. To win on the battlefield. We have artillery. Yes. Thank you. Is it enough? Honestly, not really. To ensure Bakhmut is not just a stronghold that holds back the Russian army – but for the Russian army to completely pull out – more cannons and shells are needed. If so, just like the battle of Saratoga, the fight for Bakhmut will change the trajectory of our war for independence and freedom. |
Title: Re: Zelenskyy speech to Congress Post by Bobby. on Dec 22nd, 2022 at 9:20pm If your «Patriots» stop the Russian terror against our cities, it will let Ukrainian patriots work to the full to defend our freedom. When Russia cannot reach our cities by its artillery, it tries to destroy them with missile attacks. More than that, Russia found an Ally in its genocidal policy – Iran. Iranian deadly drones, sent to Russia in hundreds, became a threat to our critical infrastructure. That is how one terrorist has found the other. It is just a matter of time – when they will strike against your other allies, if we do not stop them now. We must do it! I believe there should be no taboos between us in our alliance. Ukraine never asked the American soldiers to fight on our land instead of us. I assure you that Ukrainian soldiers can perfectly operate American tanks and planes themselves. Financial assistance is also critically important. And I would like to thank you for both, financial packages you have already provided us with, and the ones you may be willing to decide on. Your money is not charity. It's an investment in the global security and democracy that we handle in the most responsible way. Russia could stop its aggression if it wanted to, but you can speed up our victory. I know it. And it will prove to any potential aggressor that no one can succeed in breaking national borders, committing atrocities and reigning over people against their will. It would be naive to wait for steps towards peace from Russia – which enjoys being a terrorist state. Russians are still poisoned by the Kremlin. The restoration of international legal order is our joint task. We need peace. Ukraine has already offered proposals, which I just discussed with President Biden – our Peace Formula. Ten points, which should and must be implemented for our joint security – guaranteed for decades ahead. And the Summit, which can be held. I am glad to stress that President Biden supported our peace initiative today. Each of you, ladies and gentlemen, can assist in its implementation – to ensure that America’s leadership remains solid, bicameral and bipartisan. You can strengthen sanctions to make Russia feel how ruinous its aggression truly is. It is in your power to help us bring to justice everyone, who started this unprovoked and criminal war. Let's do it! Let the terrorist state be held responsible for its terror and aggression, and compensate all losses done by this war. Let the world see that the United States is here! Ladies and Gentlemen! Americans! In two days, we will celebrate Christmas. Maybe, candlelit. Not because it is more romantic. But because there will be no electricity. Millions won't have neither heating nor running water. All of this will be the result of Russian missile and drone attacks on our energy infrastructure. But we do not complain. We do not judge and compare whose life is easier. Your well-being is the product of your national security – the result of your struggle for independence and your many victories. |
Title: Re: Zelenskyy speech to Congress Post by Bobby. on Dec 22nd, 2022 at 9:20pm We, Ukrainians, will also go through our war of independence and freedom with dignity and success. We'll celebrate Christmas – and even if there is no electricity, the light of our faith in ourselves will not be put out. If Russian missiles attack us – we'll do our best to protect ourselves. If they attack us with Iranian drones and our people will have to go to bomb shelters on Christmas eve – Ukrainians will still sit down at a holiday table and cheer up each other. And we don't have to know everyone's wish as we know that all of us, millions of Ukrainians, wish the same – victory. Only victory. We already built strong Ukraine – with strong people, strong army, and strong institutions. Together with you! We develop strong security guarantees for our country and for entire Europe and the world. Together with you! And also – together with you! – we’ll put in place everyone, who will defy freedom. This will be the basis to protect democracy in Europe and the world over. Now, on this special Christmas time, I want to thank you. All of you. I thank every American family, which cherishes the warmth of its home and wishes the same warmth to other people. I thank President Biden and both parties at the Senate and the House – for your invaluable assistance. I thank your cities and your citizens, who supported Ukraine this year, who hosted our people, who waved our national flags, who acted to help us. Thank you all! From everyone, who is now at the frontline. From everyone, who is awaiting victory. Standing here today, I recall the words of the President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, which are so good for this moment: "The American People in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory". The Ukrainian People will win, too. Absolutely. I know that everything depends on us. On Ukrainian Armed Forces! Yet, so much depends on the world! So much in the world depends on you! When I was in Bakhmut yesterday, our heroes gave me the flag. The battle flag. The flag of those who defend Ukraine, Europe and the world at the cost of their lives. They asked me to bring this flag to the US Congress – to members of the House of Representatives and Senators, whose decisions can save millions of people. So, let these decisions be taken! Let this flag stay with you, ladies and gentlemen! This flag is a symbol of our victory in this war! We stand, we fight and we will win. Because we are united. Ukraine, America and the entire free world. May God protect our brave troops and citizens! May God forever bless the United States of America! Merry Christmas and a happy victorious new year! Слава Україні! |

Russian response:
https://edition.cnn.com/europe/live-news/russia-ukraine-war-news-12-22-22/index.html 4 hr 43 min ago Russian ambassador warns of Ukraine war escalation after Zelensky's US visit From CNN’s Mayumi Maruyama and Sophie Jeong Volodymyr Zelensky's visit to Washington showed that neither the United States nor the Ukrainian president are "ready for peace," Russia's ambassador to the US claimed Wednesday. His comments came after Zelensky delivered a historic speech from the US Capitol, expressing gratitude for American support in fighting Russian aggression since the war began — and asking for more. The Biden administration's "conciliatory statements about the lack of intention to start a confrontation with Russia are just empty words," Ambassador Anatoly Antonov said in a statement distributed by the Russian Embassy that decried what he described as Zelensky's "Hollywood-style trip." ""What was essentially announced to applauses and sarcastic smirks, was the need to continue the 'proxy war' against our country," Antonov said. "Till a full victory over us." " Ambassador's warning: Speaking alongside Zelensky earlier Wednesday, President Joe Biden announced the US will send Kyiv a Patriot missile defense system as part of an additional $1.8 billion assistance package to Ukraine. Antonov said Biden's announcement came despite Russia warning the US against providing the system to Ukraine. “I think everyone understands perfectly well what fate the personnel, manning these complexes on the territory of Ukraine, can face,” he said. The Russian ambassador also warned that US involvement in Ukraine could lead to an intensification of the conflict. “The provocative actions by the US are steadily leading to an escalation, the consequences of which cannot even be imagined,” he said. |

It's true, Bobby. The Ukrainians are the first nation to stand up to Putin. They have to be the toughest, bravest, strongest country since Vietnam sent Nixon - and us - on our way.
Zalensky is a true leader, energetic, relentless, generous and considerate. Ukrainians have shown us all what it means to truly suffer - and fight against tyrants like this. And do you know? They have been supported every step of the way by none other than Sleepy Joe Biden. They could not have done it without his weapons and leadership of the entire Western world. Imagine, it could have gone so differently, and Putin thought it would. He assumed that four years of Trump would divide the West and soften us up. Ukraine has shown us all how to stand up to vain, inept cowards and bullshitartists. Xi has watched, and hopefully learned. Truth is facts, facts are truth. We need to remember this, and act accordingly. If anyone ever invades us, I hope we have the support of our friends too. We need to join with Ukraine and the entire democratic world, and remember who our true friends are. Lest we forget. |

I don't know about that Karnal,
if I was the leader of Ukraine I wouldn't have stood up to a superpower such as Russia unless NATO forces came straight to the rescue with their soldiers and weapons. Why should Ukrainians have to die for the rest of Europe to be free? 100,000 Ukrainians are now dead. They would have been better off alive living under Russian tyranny - No? |

If Zalensky tried that, he would be despised by the entire Ukrainian population. More than anything else, Ukrainians value their sovereignty. They remember what it was like to live under the Soviets. Ukrainians have taught us how to value liberty. We've never had to learn, but do you know? The price of liberty is eternal vigilance. Root out the Morrisons and the Trumps and all those who try to pull a swifty on democracy, and you don't end up with a Putin. I can guarantee you 99% of Ukrainians back Zalensky's actions, and I'll bet you almost as many Russians wished they'd acted against Putin when they could. They're just not saying. The war goes on in their heads. Can you imagine a society like that? The exiled Russians I've met can't put the experience into words, but they're learning. A swarm of cheap drones attacking Ukraine would have them running out of missiles in one night. https://www.afr.com/world/europe/how-the-latest-us-aid-makes-ukraine-stronger-20221222-p5c884 The Patriot’s current interceptor missile costs approximately $4 million per round and the launchers cost about $10 million. Each Patriot battery can have up to eight launchers firing four missiles each. At that price, it’s not cost effective or optimal to use the Patriot to shoot down the smaller and cheaper Iranian drones that Russia has been using in Ukraine. |

This is like the Balkans, 25 years on. These bloody Slavs just can't sort themselves. What's the difference between a Serb, a Croat, a Bosnian and an Albanian? They are all southern slavs.
Putin and the Russians are stupid and full of Slavic idiocy. What's the difference between Ukraine, Belarus and Russia? They are all eastern slavs. They are as corrupt and stupid about their non-existent differences as the southern slavs. Yes, Putin and the Russians are the morons du jour and it is horrendous and evil what he is doing. But Ukrainians were eager Nazi collaborators as well. Of course pig eyed Vlad calls them nazis - even though Zelenski is Jewish. This war, like the Balkan war in the 1990s, is not out of the blue. Ukraine is Russia's Kosovo. Russia has assumed the role of Nazi Germany and Ukraine is now the Soviet Union. That's how farrked southern and eastern slavs are. Thank God for the Western Slavs, the Poles and Czechs. They have grown out of the slavic madness. Papi Trumpo's advice is apt: https://mobile.twitter.com/PapiTrumpo/status/1606041729353674753 |

Slavs don't hold a patent on sectarian hatred. Look at Ireland or Africa. And the only reason the British stopped butchering each other was a strong defence of Parliamentary law. But there is another aspect of Ukraine's war with Russia that you overlook in your attempt to tar all Slavs with the same brush. It is the Orange Revolution of 2004-2014, which clearly demonstrated Ukrainians intention to reject Russian authoritarianism and seek social and political models aligned with Western Europe.

That's what we shoulda done in Iraq. I've always said, you go in, you take the oil. You've heard me say that, right? So Vlad's finally done it. You've gotta hand it to him. No difference, old boy, it's just a matter of getting our terminology right, that's all. Now the Slavs are above the Pakis and the tinted races, but well below the British, who are on top, so to speak, which includes the Danes and select northern Europeans because of King Kunt. Your Americans are up there too, but only the tanned ones. The tinted ones, as we all know, are too busy trying to kill the tanned to get anything constructive done. Of course, right at the bottom are the Jigaboos, who get about naked with a bone through their nose. They can't even be bothered getting dressed, but they'll make sure that bone's inserted just so. So, now we've got the hierarchy established, we just need to clarify. Are we talking culture or, ahem, race? I get confused sometimes. You understand. |

Now we Westerners believe in manners. Civilisation has its discontents, no? The authoritarians just believe in killing and taking and even saying whatever they like. Whoever has the most guns - and the most lies - wins. We refuse to do that. Truth and manners count. Mother always said, one has to be nice. Do you see? It's all about culture. Ukraine has decided to join us. They're most welcome too. The more the merrier, no? We accept Danes and Americans and Slavs, and yes, even Pakis. One in all in, we say. We're Westerners, and we're proud of it. If you want to go raping and pillaging and spreading fake news, you can jolly well go BACK TO WHERE YOU CAME FROM. Ukraine will get financial and military support to hold back the Russians.
The price will be the surrender of the south and the southeast of Ukraine to Russia, where the majority of Ukrainian Russian speakers live. That is the offramp-ortunity' that the US and NATO are offering Putin - the international recognition of Russia's annexation of the southeastern regions, Crimea and a land bridge to Crimea. The EU, NATO and the US and the world want this war ended and that is the price Ukraine must pay. Putin will be forced to accept that western Ukraine will leave the Russian sphere of influence. |

The aoul which had been destroyed was that in
which Hadji Murad had spent the night before he went over to the Russians. Sado and his family had left the aoul on the approach of the Russian de- tachment, and when he returned he found his saklya in ruins—the roof fallen in, the door and the posts sup- porting the penthouse burned, and the interior filthy. His son, the handsome bright-eyed boy who had gazed with such ecstasy at Hadji Murad, was brought dead to the mosque on a horse covered with a barka; he had been stabbed in the back with a bayonet. the dignified woman who had served Hadji Murad when he was at the house now stood over her son’s body, her smock torn in front, her withered old breasts exposed, her hair down, and she dug her hails into her face till it bled, and wailed incessantly. Sado, taking a pick-axe and spade, had gone with his relatives to dig a grave for his son. The old grandfather sat by the wall of the ruined saklya cutting a stick and gazing stolidly in front of him. He had only just returned from the apiary. The two stacks of hay there had been burnt, the apricot and cherry trees he had planted and reared were broken and scorched, and worse still all the beehives and bees had been burnt. The wailing of the women and the little children, who cried with their mothers, mingled with the lowing of the hungry cattle for whom there was no food. The bigger children, instead of playing, followed their elders with frightened eyes. The fountain was pol- luted, evidently on purpose, so that the water could not be used. The mosque was polluted in the same way, and the Mullah and his assistants were cleaning it out. No one spoke of hatred of the Russians. the feeling experi- enced by all the Chechens, from the youngest to the oldest, was stronger than hate. It was not hatred, for they did not regard those Russian dogs as human be- ings, but it was such repulsion, disgust, and perplexity at the senseless cruelty of these creatures, that the de- sire to exterminate them—like the desire to exterminate rats, poisonous spiders, or wolves—was as natural an instinct as that of self-preservation. The inhabitants of the aoul were confronted by the choice of remaining there and restoring with frightful effort what had been produced with such labor and had been so lightly and senselessly destroyed, facing every moment the possibility of a repetition of what had hap- pened; or to submit to the Russians—contrary to their religion and despite the repulsion and contempt they felt for them. The old men prayed, and unanimously decided to send envoys to Shamil asking him for help. Then they immediately set to work to restore what had been destroyed. Tolstoy, Hadji Murat |

‘The Russian soldiers raped every German female from eight to 80’
Red Army soldiers don't believe in 'individual liaisons' with German women," wrote the playwright Zakhar Agranenko in his diary when serving as an officer of marine infantry in East Prussia. "Nine, ten, twelve men at a time - they rape them on a collective basis." ... The subject of the Red Army's mass rapes in Germany has been so repressed in Russia that even today veterans refuse to acknowledge what really happened. The handful prepared to speak openly, hdowever, are totally unrepentant. "They all lifted their skirts for us and lay on the bed," said the leader of one tank company. He even went on to boast that "two million of our children were born" in Germany. The capacity of Soviet officers to convince themselves that most of the victims were either happy with their fate, or at least accepted that it was their turn to suffer after what the Wehrmacht had done in Russia, is striking. "Our fellows were so sex-starved," a Soviet major told a British journalist at the time, "that they often raped old women of sixty, seventy or even eighty - much to these grandmothers' surprise, if not downright delight." One can only scratch at the surface of the psychological contradictions. When gang-raped women in Königsberg begged their attackers afterwards to put them out of their misery, the Red Army men appear to have felt insulted. "Russian soldiers do not shoot women," they replied. "Only German soldiers do that." The Red Army had managed to convince itself that because it had assumed the moral mission to liberate Europe from fascism it could behave entirely as it liked, both personally and politically. https://www.theguardian.com/books/2002/may/01/news.features11 |

the Patriot system can only be used for bringing down expensive missiles or jet fighters. It would be wasted on the swarms of cheap drones - the Patriot missiles cost US$4 million each. :o |
Title: Re: Zelenskyy speech to Congress Post by reggie1963 on Dec 25th, 2022 at 5:52pm
Its very hard to distinguish between jet, a guided missile or a $20000 rocket with no guidance.
If patriot could have stopped this from getting to the point it's at now, it would have been deployed earlier. Leaving it to now shows the confidence the US have in this system. Very little. The S-400 however is a very capable missile. And the US know it. Why do you think no Tomahawks or their new stealth cruise missile have not been used? The S-400 is that good it has locked up a whole tranche a defence force strategy. In this environment it is useless. Watch the next coming weeks and see how they use it and what they use it on. Who is going to make the decision to fire the 3mUSD patriot at a target when you don't know and your systems can't tell, what is a high value target and what is a 20k decoy. Dilemma. Check out Nulka and see what Australia did to render anti-ship missiles virtually useless. And to be honest the US military went to sh*t the day after Reagan left. Successive US Governments both Republican and Democrat have used the military but never replenished it to its pre use capacity or as what should have happen is they should have thrown in another 15%. Neither Republican nor Democrat did this. BOTH PARTIES ARE GUILTY OF DEPLETING THE DEFENSE FORCE. |

https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/patriot-missile-batteries-in-ukraine-would-be-top-targets-for-russia
Patriot Missile Batteries In Ukraine Would Be Top Targets For Russia In Ukraine, the Patriot air defense system would face threats unlike any it’s faced before, but they would still be a very tough target. byHoward Altman, Tyler Rogoway| PUBLISHED Dec 14, 2022 Beyond that, Patriot would be a huge upgrade specifically to Ukraine's long-range aerial surveillance and air defense capabilities aimed also at countering air-breathing threats like cruise missiles, aircraft, and drones, compared to the Soviet-era systems currently fielded by the country in this role. Russia is already struggling with existing Ukrainian air defenses that have done a pretty notable job of protecting the skies, keeping the Russian Air Force at bay from crossing into territory it does not control. But the Patriot is a mainly static system that takes up a lot of space, requires a lot of troops to operate and has a radar with strong emissions that can be detected and geolocated by Russian signals intelligence systems, like those aboard IL-20 "Coot" spy planes. As such, it could be vulnerable to a wide range of Russian weapons, the ongoing use of which Patriots have never had to defend against. “One Patriot battery with a full complement of launchers (six or more) requires 50 to 60 soldiers to emplace and then 25 to 30 soldiers to operate and maintain,” David Shank, a retired Army colonel and former commandant of the Army Air Defense Artillery School at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, told The War Zone Wednesday afternoon. “A Patriot battery uses approximately a square kilometer of land space so it’s susceptible to Russian ISR [intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance]. The radar when radiating emits a large signal and will ultimately be seen by Russian signal intelligence capabilities.” You can see what a fully deployed modern Patriot battery looks like in this previous War Zone article. A typical Patriot battery includes an AN/MPQ-53 or more capable AN/MPQ-65 phased array radar, which would be the most likely target of a Russian strike, Shank said. “Anti-radiation missiles targeting the Patriot radar,” would likely be the main vector of attack. “Destroy the Patriot radar, and the system is useless.” Russian fighters, like the Su-35S Flanker, can be equipped with Kh-31P long-range anti-radiation missiles which are themselves equipped with modular, interchangeable passive radar seekers, one of which was designed to specifically target the Patriot system. They have a range of 68 miles. The updated, Kh-31PD/PM, with an extended range of 160 miles, has a broadband seeker that allows it to target a wide range of anti-aircraft radars at once, which would come in handy for the Russian Air Force given the scope of additional air defense systems that could be arrayed around any Patriot battery installed in Ukraine. |
