Cost of private education for two children hits $1m in Sydney By Lucy Carroll and Christopher Harris January 25, 2023 Sydney is the most costly city in Australia for private schooling, but the most affordable for a Catholic education, which will set parents back $178,478 for a child to attend kindergarten to year 12, according to analysis by education finance company Futurity Investment Group. KEY POINTS • Sydney is the most costly city in Australia for private schooling, but the most affordable for a Catholic education, according to a new study. • The research found the average cost of sending two children to a Sydney private school for 13 years is $715,862. • But the total cost of an education at a Catholic school is estimated to be $178,478 over 13-years. Parents will pay almost $1 million to educate two children at Sydney’s most expensive private schools over a 13-year period, with extras like laptops, musical instruments and uniforms costing more than $5000 a year. |

Private is a rip off both to parents and tax-payers.
Kids in (NSW) Government Schools achieve basically the same scores in the HSC as Private. I would say that the only advantage to Private is that there is more discipline because kids are afraid to mis-behave upon the amount of money their parents fork out. Sadly for Government (now 'Houso' School) - kids basically run riot and Teachers do nothing really. It's amazing how kids still manage to excel through all this adversity and lack of, to attain high scores equal to Cath/Priv. Catholic seems to be the middle-path, not as costly as Private, but more disciplined than Government. The Religious aspect is there though. Also - which is superior? Single Sex or Co-Educational?? |

Before anyone jumps in and says Govco schools get better HSC results, that's because of the selective system where more is spent on tutoring than private school fees.
