Post by greggerypeccary on Jan 29th, 2023 at 3:50pm

At Least 3 Dead In 4th California Mass Shooting This Month

At least three people were killed and four injured in a mass shooting in an upscale Los Angeles neighborhood early Saturday morning—the fourth mass shooting in the state this month, as the state mourns the loss of at least 19 people in three separate shootings last week.

Still in the first month of the year, and the US has already had 44 mass shootings.

On top of that, 130 children have been killed by guns in the US so far this year - that's almost 5 a day.

Way to go, (pro-life) America!

A component of Yankism is a quasi-religious fixation on and a fantasy of killing many people with a gun.

Yanks all enjoy the headlines after a mass killing, that's why they allow it to happen.

No no, they're just not quick enough. The only one to stop a bad guy with a gun's a good guy with a gun, you see.

They prefer to KILL THEM.

Have you not read the Bible?

California has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the country, this just can't be happening. It is also known as the land of fruits and nuts and that doesn't refer to food!

Number of US homicides to date this year = 1,423 = 51 per day.

Number of US mass shootings to date this year =  49.

Such a good start to the year for Americans, the 2nd, and the NRA.    ::)

There are too many guns in the U.S. to completely prevent gun violence in any given state, the experts said. Gun violence is continuing to affect a large number of Californians, but at much lower rates than other states.

While 3,449 people died from gun violence in California in 2020, the state still has one of the lowest gun death rates in the country at 8.5 deaths per 100,000 people -- about 37% lower than the national average, according to data compiled by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Gun homicides in California, at a rate of 3.9 per 100,000 people, is much lower than Texas' rate of 6.1 per 100,000 people, figures from Everytown shows.

California's gun laws, while wide-reaching, don't target everyone who is at risk of committing violence, Barnhorst said. For example, California's background checks dig a little deeper than what's available in the federal database, so California will catch more at-risk people than other states.

But, the background checks are not going to catch everyone, especially those without a criminal history, those who have never been psychiatrically hospitalized or who don't meet any of the other criteria for prohibition of owning a gun, she said.

In addition, at-risk purchasers could be answering questions on the background check untruthfully, especially questions regarding substance abuse and mental health problems, Lori Post, director of the Buehler Center for Health Policy and Economics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, told ABC News.

"I think it just makes common sense that people willing to commit mass shootings are also willing to lie on background checks," she said.

Experts explain why California is still rife with gun violence despite some of the most stringent gun laws in the country

I don't know about that.

It manifests in just about every American action movie since the westerns of the 50s.

Yanks have an obsessive fetish with serial killers and mass murderers. Thjrough their fixation on godism, even the 'good guy' in movies gets to mass kill as well.

So much for all those famous Gun Control Laws in California......one of the most, if not the most, gun unfriendly States in all America......where they almost have as many gun laws on the books as they have criminals willing to break any one of those laws & cap yer ass at the of a drop of the proverbial hat........

What 'new gun law' will they pass tomorrow that the criminals still won't obey ???

I honestly don't think you do.

It's not illegal to amend the constitution and make laws banning the ownership of all firearms.

The constitution - or any law for that matter - isn't set in stone.

You don't even seem to understand that the Second Amendment, is actually an amendment.

It's as if you don't know what that word means.

What do you think it means?

It's my/our American Constitution, & I/we will never amend my/our American Constitution to ban anything.

See, one thing you are totally & completely ignorant about is that the Constitution belongs to the American People, not the government. The Federal Government does not have the power or the ability to amend OUR Constitution without the overwhelming consent of an overwhelming majority of the American People.

And to do that....Amending the United States Constitution.......you'd need:

2/3rds of all the Representatives in the US House of Representatives (290 of the 435), along with 2/3rds of all the Senators in the US Senate  (67 of the 100)  to completely agree to the wording of your 'new amendment', & then & only then can it be sent to the 50 individual US States where 3/4ths of all the States in those individual 50 States (38 of the 50 States) must agree as well. Then & only then can your New 2nd Amendment become part of the United States Constitution, & become the Law of the Land.

FACT:  Well over 12,000 Proposed Amendments have been suggested to Amend the US Constitution since 1789......of those 12,000+ suggestions only 33 were passed as required by both Houses of Congress, & then sent to the individual States (The People) for their Ratification/Consent.......& of those only 17 Amendments were passed & successfully ratified by the American People......in over 230+ years......

All that to 'easily' change 4 or 5 words...........Good Luck!!  ;)

So what else do you have up that skank asshole of yours now fella, that you think you can pull out in order to override the Will & might of a heavily armed American People who want to keep their guns, & their Constitutional Right to Keep & Bear Arms!!??

So much for all those famous Gun Control Laws in California......one of the most, if not the most, gun unfriendly States in all America......where they almost have as many gun laws on the books as they have criminals willing to break any one of those laws & cap yer ass at the of a drop of the proverbial hat........

What 'new gun law' will they pass tomorrow that the criminals still won't obey ???

Ban all guns - that'll work   ;)

Besides being totally illegal, ...

You don't understand how laws work, do you?

Oh, I understand quite well.....

That's right - the constitution CAN be changed.  And HAS been changed.

With no guns, it's impossible to be shot.

;)

Hold yer breath KiWi!!  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Who just happens to live in jolly old Oz.

You most certainly will comply, Panther. You honour our beloved constitution, no? You'll eat it and you'll like it.

There's no number that will change their minds.

You could have someone shoot up 10 schools tomorrow, killing thousands of children, and absolutely nothing would change.

There are too many selfish, brainwashed people like Panther in the US.

They care about their "rights" way more than the lives of a few thousand kids, and they're scared out of their wits thinking that someone is gonna break into their house and shoot them at any moment.

Sad, but true.

If you think you can take away constitutional rights from the Americans does that mean Americans can change any of our laws they don't like or is this a one way street with Aussie bedwetting hoplophobes?

Oops   :-/

Firearms recently became the number one cause of death for children in the United States, surpassing motor vehicle deaths and those caused by other injuries.

Child and Teen Firearm Mortality in the U.S. and Peer Countries

We find that the United States is alone among peer nations in the number of child firearm deaths. In no other similarly large or wealthy country are firearm deaths in the top 4 causes of mortality let alone the number 1 cause of death among children.

That's tragic, & unfortunate. Those young souls will surely be missed & never forgotten, but just because some sick, demented, & misguided criminal minded person uses a firearm to kill, to murder, it is absolutely no reason whatsoever for the more than 300 million good, Law-Abiding American Citizens to even consider relinquishing their firearms, or any of their Constitutional Rights affirming their Right to Keep & Bear Arms to be used to defend themselves, their loved ones, & their friends, because of those few flagitious criminals.

Every American Citizen has the inalienable, God Given Right to Self-Defense. Taking firearms out of the hands of millions of good, law-abiding American Citizens won't make them safer, when doing so won't affect the criminal minds hell bent on murdering them.....criminals so motivated that they will stop at nothing from committing their crimes & plans to kill.

If anything, it should redouble the resolve of all good, law-abiding Americans countrywide to make sure they are prepared to use any & all means, up to & including deadly force, to defend themselves, their loved ones, & their friends & fellow citizens from those criminals.

Just 30 days into the new year, and the US has already had 51 mass shootings.

And so far, 142 children have been killed by guns - that's 5 kids shot to death every day.

Imagine if Australia had 5 mass shootings in one month, and 14 kids killed by guns in just 30 days.  Would anyone say anything?  Would laws change?

Between 1982 and January 2023, 73 out of the 139 mass shootings in the United States 73 were carried out by white shooters. By comparison, the perpetrator was African American in 24 mass shootings, and Latino in 11. When calculated as percentages, this amounts to 53 percent, 17 percent, and eight percent respectively.

THIS YEAR, duckwit, shitfer was talking about THIS YEAR.

In any case, even your stats show that non-whites are significantly overrepresented among the perpeteators.

White population of US in 1990= 84%. In 2020 = 76%
White perpetrators of mass shooting = 53%

So that Blacks, Asians, Latinos (ie non-whites) are disproportionally represented among perpetrators is correct.

DGU = Defensive Gun Use

There are a plethora of studies, surveys, & polls that attempt to determine just how many times Defensive Gun Uses occur each year in America.

Some find that, based on their criteria, that there aren't as many DGUs compared to the number of guns spread amongst the population. On the other hand there are some that have found, again based on their criteria, that there are quite a few DGUs every year, far more than many were aware of.

The estimated number of DGUs therefore are all over the place.....a handful say that guns are used defensively as low as 50 thousand times a year, while many say guns are used defensively more often....as often as 4.5 Million times a year. All the other DGU studies, surveys, & polls used to determine the frequency of DGUs fall somewhere in between.

The largest & most comprehensive study/survey ever done on Defensive Gun Uses estimates that there are about ±1.7 million DGUs in America each year. That survey was done by a research company known as  Centiment  & is published in the Georgetown McDonough School of Business. SSRN Research Paper No. 4109494

See quote below:

Quote:
.....The online survey, which was conducted by Centiment in February and March of 2021, was based on a representative sample of about 54,000 adults, 16,708 of whom were gun owners. Georgetown University political economist William English, who commissioned the survey as part of a book project, presents its major findings in a recent paper available on the Social Science Research Network.

The overall adult gun ownership rate estimated by the survey, 32 percent, is consistent with recent research by Gallup and the Pew Research Center. So is the finding that the rate varies across racial and ethnic groups: It was about 25 percent among African Americans, 28 percent among Hispanics, 19 percent among Asians, and 34 percent among whites. Men accounted for about 58 percent of gun owners.

Because of the unusually large sample, the survey was able to produce state-specific estimates that are apt to be more reliable than previous estimates. Gun ownership rates ranged from about 16 percent in Massachusetts and Hawaii to more than 50 percent in Idaho and West Virginia.

The survey results indicate that Americans own some 415 million firearms, including 171 million handguns, 146 million rifles, and 98 million shotguns......

IMHO, we must depend on these estimates of DGUs because many go unreported simply because there were no shots fired, & because many the perps involved fled when they simply became aware their selected victim was armed.

Also, little attention is paid to many of these DGUs by the media because they either don't arouse viewership or readership, or they don't conform to the agendas the media have that attract the largest numbers of viewership & readership.

Therefore, it would make sense that we won't see as many reports of DGUs as we will of violent gun crime, which will always bring more attention & reporting.

Quote:
Someone once asked this honest question of a gun owner:

"How would you like to be the one who has to tell 49 families that their little loved ones were murdered because you refuse to give up your guns?"

This honest answer was given by the gun owner with all sincerity:

"It is a deeply unfortunate tragedy, & we all sadly feel their pain, but that said, since there are over 500,000 cases of defensive gun-use annually, I'd rather have to deliver the heart breaking bad news to the 49 families, than to the 500,000+ families who's loved ones became victims because you took away their means to defend themselves."

JFYI............How was   Centiment.co reviewed by Trustpilot

South Carolina House Passes
Constitutional Carry

Source:      NRA-ILA
Quote:
Today, the House voted 87-26 to pass House Bill 3594, the constitutional carry bill. H 3594 recognizes the right of law-abiding adults to carry a firearm for self-defense without having to first pay fees or obtain government permission, while also increasing penalties for criminals caught with firearms.

Soon South Carolina will become the 27th State out of 50 U.S. States to make State Gun Licensing & Gun Registration no longer required in order for a law-abiding adult to carry a firearm for self-defense in the State.

This law will also increase the penalties/time behind bars for all criminals that use a firearm in the commission of a crime, or simply being in possession of a firearm anywhere within the State.

There's NO comparison between firearm deaths—particularly

Nobody has ever walked into a school or a shopping mall with
a kay of heroin, and immediately killed a dozen people.

This sort of faulty "comparison" is typical of the mindset of the
typical gung-ho US gun owners desperate to hold on to their
weapons at all costs—even other peoples' lives.

According to a June 2021 Pew Research Center report 44% of

This exemplifies the attitude of a typical red neck, ultra-right,

Illegal drugs kill far more people than guns every year.

Agreed.    From CDC statistics 1 February 2023:

Deaths per 100,000 population: 14.7 from firearms.

Deaths per 100,000 population: 32.1 from illicit drugs.

But that doesn't mean we should simply ignore the excessive
number of deaths from firearms merely because there are other
more or equally deadly sources.     That's faulty logic.

Deaths per 100,000 population: 13.7 from vehicle accidents for example.

It's obviously an almost impossible task to prevent massive numbers of
vehicle deaths, but firearm deaths could be reduced substantially over,
say, a decade by rewriting the 2nd Amendment, and tightening up gun
and owner legislation to limit the number of guns in US society, and who
owns them.

A 2021 BBC report using data from the FBI and the Las Vegas Police pointed
out that eleven of the thirteen deadliest mass shootings in the past 30 years
in the US occurred between 2001 and 2021—implying that mass shootings
are becoming more frequent and more deadly.

A 2016 paper from the University of Alabama compared 171 countries from
1966 to 2012 and concluded that the US accounted for only 5% of the world’s
population, but 31% of its mass shootings.

World Population Review, 2023.

The Buffalo killings are part of a pattern: Most extremist violence in the U.S. comes from the political right.

Over the past decade, the Anti-Defamation League has counted about 450 U.S. murders committed by political extremists.

Of these 450 killings, right-wing extremists committed about 75 percent. Islamic extremists were responsible for about 20 percent, and left-wing extremists were responsible for 4 percent.

Nearly half of the murders were specifically tied to white supremacists:

If democrats would just stop shooting people!

I thought it was Republicans who do the most shooting, Mort... Must be hard to be a Black in the US you have to watch out for the Police who like to shoot you, you have to watch out for the Whites who like to shoot you and you have to watch for your fellow Blacks as well...  Tsk, tsk, tsk... ::) ::)

No, the Republicans are usually the ones that shoot back. Blacks do most of the robbing, raping and shooting, mostly against others in their own neighborhood. That is why larger  businesses stay away. White people in America have a lower crime rate than Australians!

This should make you angry but the best you will do is excuse it!

Reported where?  The Gateway Pundit?  Oh, dearie, dearie, me, Mort you really are plumbing the depths, aren't you?  I don't excuse what happened in the slightest but your source is suspect, extremely suspect.  Like most right-wing sources, it only tells half of the story, until I hear from the other side I won't condemn it.  Tsk, tsk, tsk...   ::) ::)

Attacks of Blacks on Whites is epidemic here and largely ignored by the Media and Liberal Agenda. Fight back and be accused of a hate crime is the new reality we live in. How is there another side to bullying based on Race?

Democrats do most of the shooting. It must be a trans/gay/woke/media victimised thing?

White America: Being attacked from the Yellow Man from outside and attacked by the Black Man from within.
Definitely a International Democrat and Domestic Confederate 'Crime' thing.  ;)
Blue (Europe), Grey (Oceania), Black (Africa) & Yellow (Asia) - the Big Brother Media thing.

...can't blame the 'Red' Republicans. :P
