Title: 4th California Mass Shooting This Month Post by greggerypeccary on Jan 29th, 2023 at 3:50pm At Least 3 Dead In 4th California Mass Shooting This Month At least three people were killed and four injured in a mass shooting in an upscale Los Angeles neighborhood early Saturday morning—the fourth mass shooting in the state this month, as the state mourns the loss of at least 19 people in three separate shootings last week. Still in the first month of the year, and the US has already had 44 mass shootings. On top of that, 130 children have been killed by guns in the US so far this year - that's almost 5 a day. Way to go, (pro-life) America! |

A component of Yankism is a quasi-religious fixation on and a fantasy of killing many people with a gun.
Yanks all enjoy the headlines after a mass killing, that's why they allow it to happen. |

California has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the country, this just can't be happening. It is also known as the land of fruits and nuts and that doesn't refer to food!

There are too many guns in the U.S. to completely prevent gun violence in any given state, the experts said. Gun violence is continuing to affect a large number of Californians, but at much lower rates than other states. While 3,449 people died from gun violence in California in 2020, the state still has one of the lowest gun death rates in the country at 8.5 deaths per 100,000 people -- about 37% lower than the national average, according to data compiled by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Gun homicides in California, at a rate of 3.9 per 100,000 people, is much lower than Texas' rate of 6.1 per 100,000 people, figures from Everytown shows. California's gun laws, while wide-reaching, don't target everyone who is at risk of committing violence, Barnhorst said. For example, California's background checks dig a little deeper than what's available in the federal database, so California will catch more at-risk people than other states. But, the background checks are not going to catch everyone, especially those without a criminal history, those who have never been psychiatrically hospitalized or who don't meet any of the other criteria for prohibition of owning a gun, she said. In addition, at-risk purchasers could be answering questions on the background check untruthfully, especially questions regarding substance abuse and mental health problems, Lori Post, director of the Buehler Center for Health Policy and Economics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, told ABC News. "I think it just makes common sense that people willing to commit mass shootings are also willing to lie on background checks," she said. Experts explain why California is still rife with gun violence despite some of the most stringent gun laws in the country |

So much for all those famous Gun Control Laws in California......one of the most, if not the most, gun unfriendly States in all America......where they almost have as many gun laws on the books as they have criminals willing to break any one of those laws & cap yer ass at the of a drop of the proverbial hat........ It's my/our American Constitution, & I/we will never amend my/our American Constitution to ban anything. See, one thing you are totally & completely ignorant about is that the Constitution belongs to the American People, not the government. The Federal Government does not have the power or the ability to amend OUR Constitution without the overwhelming consent of an overwhelming majority of the American People. And to do that....Amending the United States Constitution.......you'd need: 2/3rds of all the Representatives in the US House of Representatives (290 of the 435), along with 2/3rds of all the Senators in the US Senate (67 of the 100) to completely agree to the wording of your 'new amendment', & then & only then can it be sent to the 50 individual US States where 3/4ths of all the States in those individual 50 States (38 of the 50 States) must agree as well. Then & only then can your New 2nd Amendment become part of the United States Constitution, & become the Law of the Land. FACT: Well over 12,000 Proposed Amendments have been suggested to Amend the US Constitution since 1789......of those 12,000+ suggestions only 33 were passed as required by both Houses of Congress, & then sent to the individual States (The People) for their Ratification/Consent.......& of those only 17 Amendments were passed & successfully ratified by the American People......in over 230+ years...... All that to 'easily' change 4 or 5 words...........Good Luck!! ;) So what else do you have up that skank asshole of yours now fella, that you think you can pull out in order to override the Will & might of a heavily armed American People who want to keep their guns, & their Constitutional Right to Keep & Bear Arms!!?? |

DGU = Defensive Gun Use There are a plethora of studies, surveys, & polls that attempt to determine just how many times Defensive Gun Uses occur each year in America. Some find that, based on their criteria, that there aren't as many DGUs compared to the number of guns spread amongst the population. On the other hand there are some that have found, again based on their criteria, that there are quite a few DGUs every year, far more than many were aware of. The estimated number of DGUs therefore are all over the place.....a handful say that guns are used defensively as low as 50 thousand times a year, while many say guns are used defensively more often....as often as 4.5 Million times a year. All the other DGU studies, surveys, & polls used to determine the frequency of DGUs fall somewhere in between. The largest & most comprehensive study/survey ever done on Defensive Gun Uses estimates that there are about ±1.7 million DGUs in America each year. That survey was done by a research company known as Centiment & is published in the Georgetown McDonough School of Business. SSRN Research Paper No. 4109494 See quote below: Quote:
IMHO, we must depend on these estimates of DGUs because many go unreported simply because there were no shots fired, & because many the perps involved fled when they simply became aware their selected victim was armed. Also, little attention is paid to many of these DGUs by the media because they either don't arouse viewership or readership, or they don't conform to the agendas the media have that attract the largest numbers of viewership & readership. Therefore, it would make sense that we won't see as many reports of DGUs as we will of violent gun crime, which will always bring more attention & reporting. Quote:

Soon South Carolina will become the 27th State out of 50 U.S. States to make State Gun Licensing & Gun Registration no longer required in order for a law-abiding adult to carry a firearm for self-defense in the State. This law will also increase the penalties/time behind bars for all criminals that use a firearm in the commission of a crime, or simply being in possession of a firearm anywhere within the State. |

There's NO comparison between firearm deaths—particularly of the opportunistic or mass shooting variety—and illicit drug taking. Nobody has ever walked into a school or a shopping mall with a kay of heroin, and immediately killed a dozen people. This sort of faulty "comparison" is typical of the mindset of the typical gung-ho US gun owners desperate to hold on to their weapons at all costs—even other peoples' lives. According to a June 2021 Pew Research Center report 44% of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents say they personally own a gun, compared with 20% of Democrats and Democratic leaners. This exemplifies the attitude of a typical red neck, ultra-right, Trump supporter, NRA mentality. And it's a pathetic, deplorable one that demands to be corrected. ASAP. |

Agreed. From CDC statistics 1 February 2023: Deaths per 100,000 population: 14.7 from firearms. Deaths per 100,000 population: 32.1 from illicit drugs. But that doesn't mean we should simply ignore the excessive number of deaths from firearms merely because there are other more or equally deadly sources. That's faulty logic. Deaths per 100,000 population: 13.7 from vehicle accidents for example. It's obviously an almost impossible task to prevent massive numbers of vehicle deaths, but firearm deaths could be reduced substantially over, say, a decade by rewriting the 2nd Amendment, and tightening up gun and owner legislation to limit the number of guns in US society, and who owns them. A 2021 BBC report using data from the FBI and the Las Vegas Police pointed out that eleven of the thirteen deadliest mass shootings in the past 30 years in the US occurred between 2001 and 2021—implying that mass shootings are becoming more frequent and more deadly. A 2016 paper from the University of Alabama compared 171 countries from 1966 to 2012 and concluded that the US accounted for only 5% of the world’s population, but 31% of its mass shootings. —World Population Review, 2023. |

Australia.
There are 12,000 people in my electorate that have guns. Be lucky if there is one gun death a year. But as far as drugs (Ice, etc) and alcohol go - there are far more deaths formulated from these substances. Go figure. Note: We live in a world where Military is an over-achiever and Medicine is an under-achiever. |
