Title: Become a psuedo vegan - Eat Lab Meat
Post by lee on May 13th, 2023 at 1:13pm
"Lab-grown meat could be 25 times worse for the climate than beef"

"Analysis finds the carbon footprint of cultivated meat is likely to be higher than beef if current production methods are scaled up because they are still highly energy-intensive

Cultivated meat is made by growing muscle tissue from stem cells

Meat produced from cultured cells could be 25 times worse for the climate than regular beef unless scientists find ways to overhaul energy-intensive steps in its production.

Lab-grown or “cultivated” meat is made by growing animal stem cells around a scaffold in a nutrient-rich broth. It has been proposed as a kinder and greener alternative to traditional meat because it uses less land, feed, water and antibiotics than animal farming and removes the need to farm and slaughter livestock..."

Human beings are natural omnivores and have been eating meat
for 2,600,000 years.

I would never accept or consume the unnatural, trendoid, diet of a
vegetarian.

Anybody who doesn't enjoy a thick sirloin steak or a toasted
bacon sandwich obviously has something wrong with them LOL.

Vegans should just be happy us omnivores eat meat. We are feasting on the animals that eat vegan's food.

That steak you boys are talking about might taste a bit different in the future.

Bill Gates has a factory in WA turning sea weed into cow food.

This is bound to affect the taste of the meat and the meat itself and the person eating it.

Who knows mad cows again.....LOL.

Anything to make a buck.

It's a new technology. It has  way to go.

Anything that serves to prevent animal suffering is worth investigating in my opinion. I'm highly suspicious of anyone who sys otherwise.

Not to mention we are looking at very real possible global food shortages n the not too distant future.

Maybe you'd prefer crickets?

I do not eat much meat anymore.

Yesterday, I bought lamb chops and a lamb backstrap. Usually I buy a smallish porterhouse or TBone and that is my meat for the week bar some prosciutto or pancetta or salami.

Good for my wallet, good for my health as are my walks with the dog. Socks, being a 30Kg beast requires L O O O N G walks. Plenty Vit D.

My dinner tonight—the other half of the potato–spinach–egg–cheese casserole I made last night.

I have jars full of dried beans, split peas and puy and red lentils. Might make Boston baked beans some time and would like another go at the TexMex bean chili.

Another dog meet Saturday. Wish I could bring something warm from home—all they supply is a snag on white bread  :'( will see if I can buy a thermos.

The main problem with dried beans and other high protein pulses is the overnight soak and the hour long cooking, otherwise they are as delicious as meat.

I agree the fabricated 'meat' look-alikes are crap, probably unhealthy (lots of artificial additives)  and expensive.

But as for the poor, they will NOT "always be with us", in the new world freed from feeding good food to animals, and freed from the enforced scarcity of the current self-serving money lenders in the IMF, World Bank, and the nations' private banks.

A pressure cooker solves that hour long thing. I dont like using the pressure cooker for beans because getting the water ratio is hard but i do if i dont have a lot of time to make a meal. Also i soak ALL the beans even lentils because of my digestive problems but if im in a hurry ill use beans or lentils that dont need to be soaked overnight just for a few hours (like red lentils or toor dahl).

Actually - I've had some vegetarian sausages that were super yummy.
The good ones were expensive though - more than meat sausages.
I think they were made with chickpeas?

They would have to be healthier than meat sausages.

That's coming from someone who, unfortunately, eats way too much processed meat.

When I'm in Europe that's pretty much all my relatives feed me  :)

Possibly, I don't know; but perhaps the 'list of ingredients' panel will show all the artificial additives, as well as sugar and salt....usually a fair swig of them, in manufactured foods.

"It's Time to End the War on Salt

The zealous drive by politicians to limit our salt intake has little basis in science"

"For decades the notion that an excessive consumption of salt (NaCl) leads to hypertension has persisted. However, this idea is based on opinion, not scientific proof. Despite this, every health organization, agency, and clinicians around the world have been advising salt restriction, especially to hypertensive patients. The present review article suggests that the consumption of a high-salt diet is not the cause of hypertension and that there are other factors, such as added sugars, which are causative for inducing hypertension and cardiovascular disease."

To overcome the hassle of the overnight soak and the one hour of cooking—cook a heap and fill into jars and preserve in a pressure canner. Be doing that when the days are too cold/wet to be outside.

Recipe: https://www.healthycanning.com/canning-kidney-beans

Works for cannellini beans too and I dare say haricot beans.

Calculate the quantity for 250ml jars—nice quantity for salads. Use some litre jars for bulk recipes, etc.

I only used salt as an example. Myself i have always had low BP so doctors occasionally tell me to eat MORE salt. Theres all kinds of "vegan" additives in processed vegan foods same as other additives in other food. Its all processed. That being said i do like those apple sausages for a treat now and then.
