Stan Grant is a conflicted half-caste as many of the more rabid ones are. Recently he said, and I quote, "The Crown tried to exterminate my people." First of all, which people are his people. Assuming he was talking about Aboriginal ancestors, he is either ignorant of history and instructions for Governors concerning the natives, or he is deliberately using his celebrity to mislead the public in the run up to the referendum. Either way, he is an arsehole.

Sounds like a conflicted half-caste to me....

Anyway - I scarcely noticed him until he started under the tanning machine and started to rub in the orange, and then somehow morphed from being just another face on TV to being some big spokesperson for all things Aboriginal..... never noticed he was until he said so - same as Ray Martin etc.

I suppose if the heat's too much in that kitchen, you can always bolt for the door. If he'd remained just another presenter, actually giving a fair summary of all sides of the questions - he'd have done all right..... but he chose the wrong side of both history and the future.

Never noticed the Aboriginality in that old sheila who did the insulting 'welcome to country, guests and never owners' stuff at the NRL last night - again - whiter than I am.... same as the majority of the 'Indigenous' players.

Well, other than of course crude, denigrating insults—for the one
and only reason (apparently) that he's Aboriginal.

Incidentally, Grant is professor of Global Affairs at Griffith University
in Queensland, and a vice-chancellor of Australian-Indigenous Belonging
at Charles Sturt University in NSW. Presumably then you see
yourself better qualified to debate Aboriginal affairs? I'd hate to
think you're just another keyboard warrior hiding behind the cover
of anonymity.

BTW, I'm surprised that as you claim to know a lot about Aborigines'
traditional diet that you don't know how to spell witchetty grubs. Telling?

As most respondents here appear to have very little concept of
Stan Grant's background (other than he's an Aboriginal, and
therefore a legitimate target for racial abuse) I've posted his

And as for Grant's career, he's got where he is by sheer hard work and
perseverance in the face of racial obstacles, and determination.

Nobody handed him any of his successes on a platter; he simply took
advantage of the educational system available to any other non-
indigenous person.

what has any of that history got to do with or what affect does it have on Stan Grant in the present?

What would Stan be doing now had that not occurred?

What makes Stan any different from any other successful person who has worked hard & became a success?

Why is it that you think dragging up the past to run it like a never ending guilt trip has any merit in reconciliation when all it does is widen the division?

Many years ago, I would reprimand someone who was so liberal, he did not care about the situation between Western and non-Western society. I told him, he would probably be one of those that would shout "Allah Ackbah" at one of those rallies supporting Islamic terrorism. He tried to correct me saying that it was "Allahu Ackbah", followed by a "you idiot". It was as if he missed the point about me associating him with the terrorists. Nothing. I interpreted the message that Stan Grant had for his enemies as some kind of threat against them. You have to watch the body language. Even the most trained tv celebrity has tells about them that make them seem deceptive.

When people blink, it is not just a matter of watering the eyes so that they don't sting. It is a tell-tale sign that there is some kind of emotive response during a speech. Watch how Stan Grant blinks at certain points during his speech. He blinks during moments when he is micro-repressing his feelings, because he is at some odds with the details. Other times, he has a prolonged stare -- indicative that he means what he says.

You can tell by his blinking patterns that he has a lot of selfishness. He does not really care for his "people". There seems to be some kind of contempt for his own family, although not much. He lied about being gone for "a little while". He will be on a long break. And the "love" he talks about is a lie. It comes off as more of a challenge against his 'enemies', and he is prepared to take them on. There is also a hidden meaning that his "people" are going to be his enforcers against his enemies. Although, I figure Stan is just using them, and has contempt for them being not as fortunate as him.

You are missing the issue here. I am saying that Mr Grant has made a coded message to his enemies. Stan Grant is being professional about his message, in a way that the casual viewer will see it as a dignified goodbye message. But, if you read between the lines, you can see that it is a rallying cry. Maybe Stan has considerable reason to be making such a message. I don't know him or his circumstances. However, if the abuse to him and his family is serious, I think it is well planned by Stan to keep himself restrained in that way. Even the type of leaning in his chair showed that Stan was indicating that the message goes passed the general audience and at a targeted listener.

No. Because I don't see myself as Australian in the 'political' sense as there is no such thing 'officially' as an Australian politically in any fully independent and 'original' context - unless you think wearing a cap with corks on a string makes you Australian more than being British, American or Aborigine.
