Title: The Day after they lose Post by Boris on Aug 23rd, 2023 at 7:52am
What a great day that will be
https://www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/albanese-and-labor-are-preparing-for-the-day-after-the-voice-is-defeated-20230818-p5dxpd.html Albanese and Labor are preparing for the day after the Voice is defeated If it wasn’t already clear, Labor’s 49th national conference made it plain: the ALP is now bracing for the Voice to parliament to be lost. This is not a surprise: the downward trend in support for the Voice has been obvious for months and the most recent Resolve Political Monitor showed that, finally, both the prime minister’s personal standing and that of Labor are now affected. Two things stood out at the conference: first, the willingness of delegates to privately canvass how Labor will handle the fallout of a loss, and second, Anthony Albanese’s shift in focus in his speeches. Albanese’s opening conference speech on Thursday contained just two mentions of the proposed Voice but six mentions of the rising costs Australians face, as well as 14 references to affordable housing. And subtly, on Friday, the prime minister promised to “do my best to promote a Yes vote”. On Saturday – during a set piece on the historic constitutional reform – Albanese rallied the party faithful to the cause. But he also pointedly noted the Voice was not a convenient reform to fight for, but one necessary to pursue as a matter of conviction and that “the idea of a Voice came from the grassroots, it will be decided at the grassroots”. The subtle distancing of the PM from the proposal is clear. And Alex Ellinghausen’s extraordinary photographs of Albanese on stage after his speech, alongside Indigenous Australians Minister Linda Burney, are not subtle: the prime minister’s pain is plain. |

This whole saga has been a classic example of the utter detachment politicians and woke activists have from the real world. Some of them, the politicians at least, now begin to realise how out of step with the views of the majority of people they are, and like the snivelling rats they are now try to distance themselves from their failure.

Well may they snivel that nothing will save the Labor Party next time around - but nothing will save the voice at all....
Jesus - if only the opposition had something to offer apart from Voldemort and 'Slippery' Ley ... (the latter bringing a whole new dimension to politics, being a woman) .... Anyway - The Day After will be fun around here - around these parts we had a druggo getting into an old guy for parking his car badly, and some big young guy confronted the druggo and hammered him - then the cops arrived and off went to druggo for a free ride... People round these parts don't take kindly to that civil unrest.... |

I am just wonderin' if the indigenous people will have the guts to riot about their loss. Let us say that the "no" vote wins 70% to 30% -- as a conservative estimate -- will there be masses of antisocial behaviour going on about white people being racist and not giving indigenous people free stuff?

You'll be crying day and night about the racist country that feeds you so well... better than your wildest dreams... many here would still be wandering the savannahs, or picking dates and olives, or fighting off the cobras to plant rice, or living the third world lifestyle with instant arrest and probable execution for being reported as a dissident or something - short, cheap, and deadly - if they were not here enjoying the fruits of the hard labour of the many before their arrival who built this country (on rock and roll)... and all the infrastructures, social and physical, that make it such a great place. You professional victims are all the same..... can't wait for the vote....... heh, heh ..... |

Well, they certainly deserve to lose, having tried to pull a swift one, by undermining multiculturalism and democracy in one go. But I don't like polls or predictions. You might as well put the kybosh on it before we get a chance to vote.
The stupidity of it is that they could get the Voice (and still may) without all the controversy, had they not tied it to a Constitutional amendment. This was being greedy on the intoxication of an election win. And they thought all they had to do was argue another government could do away with it, if they didn't like it. Sorry, not good enough, Labor. You'll have to come up with a better justification. But anyway, the agenda of the Left, as we saw in WA, is to white ant the ownership of private property. |

I've read the cheap 'pamphlet' from my letter box - there is nothing 'compelling' about the YES case - only a set of platitudes.... not least that this voice will mysteriously resolve every problem of every Aborigine doing it tough....
There is, on the other hand, a very compelling case to vote NO. The YES case is based on an emotional misreading of history and reality... the NO case on hard realities. 'riots in the cities and an Intifada in the Outback'.... that's your fare for The Day After They Lose!! They'll attack on a Sunday morning when everyone is getting over the hangover from celebrating thrashing their cause... |
Title: Re: The Day after they lose Post by Frank on Aug 27th, 2023 at 11:51am
What PRACTICAL benefit is there in putting the Voice in the Constitution? Why not simply legislate the Voice?
Putting it in the Constitution serves no practical purpose for closing the gap. The only point of a constitutional Voice is the establishment of the de facto and de jure co-sovereignty of an Aboriginal body that is separate from the rest of the Australian body politic. |

No voice of any kind has a hope in hell of closing any gaps - only action from both sides will do that.

Albanese’s plan to implement the Uluru statement in full is more than just “Voice,” that’s only stage 1.
After the Voice comes stage 2: race-based treaties. Dean Parkin, Yes campaign director, explains how race-based treaties come after Albanese’s Voice. https://twitter.com/PaulineHansonOz/status/1696293977949892779 |
